I brought up Hank saying I do think he's the odd man out but his name is still part of the conversation because he's still going to occupy a place on this roster when he's healthy. Now that might be an immediate release situation and he becomes an afterthought, but a move will have to be made regarding him sooner or later.


I honestly still think we carry 6 receivers due to the fact that Roberts plays teams. The other X-factor here is Ross... He's had some work in the preseason and has made a couple catches. Do we stash him on the PS? We currently have 11 WR on the roster (according to Redskins.com). It's a very interesting problem to have seeing as at least one of them has a chance to make a VERY talented squad.

Has anyone heard ANYTHING from Cody Hoffman? I cant remember seeing his name in ANY conversations but he was supposed to be a big body who MIGHT be able to come in here to compete.
 
Is Moss getting a fair shake in the preseason games? Has his fate been determined already? I heard his number called out once last night.

Hoffman probably goes to the PS in a few weeks.
 
I just watched a new show called Fourth and Loud, an Arena version of Hard Knocks.

The episode revolved around our former backup QB, Colt Brennan. Man, what a sad story his life has become.

The NFL Competition Committee discussed expanding practice squads from eight to 10 players back in March. The owners tabled the idea back then, but the measure has now passed.

The NFL announced Tuesday that change will go into place for only the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Absent a further agreement, the league will go back to an eight-player practice squad in 2016. This is essentially a two-year trial to see how the league likes the new rule.

We can't imagine anyone having a problem with the adjustment. It gives 64 more NFL players jobs during the 2014 season and provides greater roster flexibility for teams to develop young talent.

There is almost no downside to this rule. Without a true developmental league, teams struggle to work with young talent that isn't ready to truly compete at the pro level. A bigger practice squad could help teams teach diamonds in the rough.

I watched this week's episode of Hard Knocks last night. Atlanta was in Houston for two days of practice and a Friday game. JJ Watt (in the practices) and Jadeveon Clowney (in the game) were a frightening sight to behold.

I've got faith in Trent but unless Polumbus gets every-down help from Paulsen, JJ Watt will have some of his HOF introduction video in the can.

looks like we might have to worry about Clowney... a helmet to helmet causing pain in the shoulder sounds like it could be a stinger, but what I've heard sounds A LOT like what I was feeling when I had a herniated disc. I dont hope injury upon anyone but I'd be lying if I was looking forward to seeing those two coming.
 
The RG3 hate all over the internet has become tiresome. It's not based on reality, but perception, a warped perception born of self loathing and misery, which is merely just a projection of the pathetic collective that infests my internets. A hive mind of misfiring synapses eager, no...frothing at the mouth for the opportunity for an "I told you so" if he does indeed get hurt again. Every player is at risk every play. Furthermore, other than the int, he played great last week. But to hear some of the collective tell it, the Skins would be better off putting a real live donkey out at QB. The short attention span of the public at large seems to be getting shorter at an exponential pace thanks to the instant gratification bestowed upon the masses from social media, google, streaming, etc. I have little hope for humanity.

Peeps talk shit about him all the time. His play has done plenty talking. Check out Drew Brees' 2nd and 3rd year stats. Not pretty. Patience has become a forgotten virtue.

Some players engages in actual twitter battles talking shit to one another, yet receive a smidgen of the criticism RG3 gets for making a passing comment to the legions of haters. Shit is laughable.
 
I understand your general mindset Beans, but differ on a couple points. First of all, until Manziel hit the NFL, no player ever had as much hype, love, and positive attention as has RG3. And to be honest - he eats that up. He's a little thin-skinned when it comes to the other stuff. He needs to toughen up and ignore criticism. As far as the 'any player can be injured on any play' comment. Of course that's true and almost entirely irrelevant all at the same time. 'Any player' hasn't had 2 major knee reconstructions on the same knee. 'Any player' doesn't possess world class speed for whom such an injury is even more devastating. And 'any player' doesn't leave the protection of the pocket with reckless abandon and at times, seem incapable of applying common sense to his style of play. And maybe most important in my mind, few players mean as much to their team's long-term success as Griffin does to the Redskins (if only because we gave the farm away to get him).

I think you're also missing the point with a lot of fans. It's because they LOVE RG3 and want him to be around for the next 15 years that they turn up the heat on him, not because they doubt his talent, ability, or motivation.

Just my opinion.

I disagree with your first point. RG3 was just the flavor of the month. Typical promotion of that year's draft. The hype hit overdrive during the greatest rookie season of all time. From the words of the Shan himself:

I think people make snap judgements and think they actually KNOW him through such minuscule interactions such as twitter. A tweet is normally just a passing thought of roughly 250 characters or less that literally takes seconds. In reality, people have very little idea of what bothers/doesn't bother RG3 or just how thin/thick his skin is.

His injury history is a concern, but I know whom I hold ultimately accountable, and it isn't the (at the time) 22 year old kid/rookie. However, his style of play should be of little concern.

Think of all the games that Rodgers, Stafford, Cutler,etc. have missed in recent years. I can't worry about what hasn't happened yet. That said I do feel RG3 is slightly more reckless than need be and his sliding is fine....I perceive it more so as a timing/want to issue. By "want to" , I think he does try to get that extra yard subconsciously and needs to make more of a conscious effort to protect himself. It's early. He'll learn. The Pain Train is on schedule.

I actually agree with you more than I disagree. But on the hype and lack of depth of understanding - that's got very little to do with RG3, it's simply the nature of social media, and honestly, at this point, nearly ALL media. Look at the coverage of the events in Ferguson. We're not going to discuss that stuff here, but the point is, folks know almost nothing about what happened but immediately leap to judgment from every side. It's a sad reality in 2014. People think they know. And they don't. I would be more inclined to provide Griffin my blanket support if he were not so actively and personally putting himself out there. That doesn't make it his fault, but when you go out and openly challenge the haters - you are just feeding that kind of stuff, not discouraging it. And it's clear stuff bothers him - I think you're kidding yourself there. If it didn't, he wouldn't comment publically about the criticism.

On the injury stats - I think that's misleading. I don't think there are comparative stats showing the rate of injury for mobile QBs who have already had TWO ACL repairs :) There have only been a handful of NFL QBs who routinely take off downfield like Griffin does - and very few indeed who, given the choice between the sidelines and turning upfield, nearly always take unnecessary hits. I think he is aware it's foolhardy and is trying to play smarter. But he's not there yet, and it's not a natural thing for him.

As for who is accountable for his injury in 2012 - I mostly agree with you. And I do agree that the worry and hyperventilating (although I engage in some of that) is pointless. He'll either somehow manage to stay relatively healthy, he'll have another devastating injury, or somewhere in between. And no amount of handwringing will have an impact on that.
 
And Boone, I do understand the legitmate fans' concern. I was more or less talking about the vile peeps that spew pure hate found on any sports article's comment section that makes mention of RG3. He is anathema to the man-children that pollute the web.
