Random Commanders Thoughts

. Ok so I spell bad. Lol
Welcome to BGO!

Chris Thompson is continuing to get positive attention from coaches and players. I am hoping so hard that his injuries are behind him and that he can develop into the threat that I thought he could.

If he can get over the jitters that seemed to plague him on returns last year, I see him being a very good return man for the next several years. Pulling for our fellow alum.

From the quotes I've seen from Gruden and from Griffin I expect his biggest potential impact to be on the offense.

Here's some good video of receiving drills today. Two things really jump out--Moss looks like he still has it, and Crawford had a bad day.

Even with Lache Seastrunk? I don't see us cutting Helu and Royster, although I see one of them cut...more than likely Royster. But Chris Thompson and Seastrunk seem to be very similar players. I could see us keeping 4 RB's, if one of them is kept for return duties only, but Thompson on offense? Ok. I am not saying it won't happen, I was under the impression he would need one heckuva training camp to even come close to being on the day one roster...maybe that is exactly what is happening. Kid showed a lot of potential last pre-season.

To be fair and accurate, it's most likely a message sent from Haslett.
Even per Gruden, Haz has full control of the defense, easpecially this early on the regime, while Gruden's getting settled.
Of course Gruden makes the final decision, but it sounds like Haz has been agressive in cleaning up the defense, for him to apparently be putting in strong recommendations that a player of his gets cut on the very first day of TC, and just one year after he was drafted.
I doubt the Gruden had the time, or took the time, to watch Jenkins individually, and close enough, to make such a drastic and early decision on him.
So, there's also a message in there to the fans, to give Haz more of a chance, now that he apparently has more control, and is doing something productive with it.

Brian, well said. I have nothing to add, I just wanted to tell you that I agree with this and it was very well said.

I'm only going by quotes I've read, I'm not making a declaration. As far as Royster goes...I see him as a J.A.G. who brings nothing to the table that a hundred other backs couldn't. If CT can stay healthy, and granted that should be a big if at this point, he can be a very dangerous spot weapon.

Chris Thompson feels fast again - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN

The one trait Washington Redskins Chris Thompson couldn't show last summer is the one trait that made him dangerous. He'd watch a run in practice on film and know he could have hit it faster. Or burst through quicker. Or finish better.

Occasionally he'll say the same thing now, but there's a difference. When it happens now, it's not because he's wondering if he's as fast or as quick as he used to be.

“I'm not questioning my explosiveness and speed anymore,” Thompson said. “I feel good, actually.”

"I'm starting to feel that speed now and it feels good," Redskins RB Chris Thompson said.
It's been evident in practice that Thompson feels better. He's shown more flash than he did last summer when he earned a roster spot as a rookie. Judging a running back early in camp is dangerous because, with no live tackling, it's impossible to measure how many defenders he makes miss. So a back will squirt through the middle, break free and hear the crowd cheer. The reality: It's tough to know if he'd have been tackled after 2 yards or 20.

But for Thompson it's a good sign that he looks faster. The coaches like the second-year back -- and even though Jay Gruden did not draft him, he was high on Thompson before the 2013 draft while with Cincinnati.

Still, the Redskins drafted a sixth-round back in Lache Seastrunk and already have Alfred Morris and Roy Helu.Evan Royster provides veteran insurance too.

The numbers game doesn't matter yet, however. What matters for Thompson is that his speed has returned.

“I'm over a year from the ACL and it usually takes a year once you start feeling good,” he said, “and I'm starting to feel that speed now and it feels good.”

Coaches have noticed.

“He's got the speed, he's got the hands,” Gruden said. “He's got the quickness. He's got everything you're looking for. We've just got to make sure he stays healthy.”

RG3 on RB Chris Thompson: 'We want him to be Darren Sproles...I love the guy.'

1 thing to note on Thompson: Still has some issues in pass protection. Needs to improve there...

Chris Thompson with excellent block in pass pro drill against will Compton. Excellent

Won't be surprised at all if the kid makes it. If he can double up and provide value in the return game, even better. My way-too-early prediction is that Lance gets stuck on the practice squad, and Royster gets the boot.

From everything I've read, the Pain Train is still on schedule.

Grant and Hoffman...did the Redskins actually find recievers late in the draft/UDFA all on their own? The times, they sure are a changin'....

Yeah dude had to be missing assignments and/or tackles so Haz voted him off at tribal council.

Didn't we lead the league in missed tackles last season or something? Seems they're squaring that up.

NFLN is showing TE Jerry Smith on 'A Football Life'. Is it true he still holds the single season td record at 12? Dude had some ridiculous hands, though Jergensen threw a few beauties as well.

That's a great episode.

He held the record when he was done, but I believe one or two have since passed him. Although I also believe he played in shorter seasons, and definitely before TEs were used like they are today. He was way ahead of his time.

Edit: Gronk now holds the record. I believe Sharpe was the first to follow Jerry Smith.

Rob Gronkowski - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Double edit: Here is a subjective list of the top TEs of all-time, and Jerry Smith is still right up there. Number three on the list shocks me.

Ah my bad, was referring to the Redskins TD record. Yeah it's a pretty good segment alright.

On another note the NFLN ticker is running the Bruce Allen says Bob shouldn't have started 2013 season. I see it as some minor pot stirring, could be wrong tho.

Well, I didn't pay attention to the "lottery" deadline so I missed out. I was about to reserve my hotel room and register for the ticket. Oh well.

Richmond sucks!

Edit: Well, I cannot thank SNF enough for getting me a ticket! I booked my hotel room and will be going to see the 1st practice with the Patriots with camera in hand!

Guys, I need a favor. I am considering breaking out the big guns for next Monday's practice. Only problem is, i dont want to have to lug around a 15 pound lens if I cannot get it in. In Ashburn, it would be no problem, but I dont know the policy for Bons Secur. I havent had time to check the policy.

Can someone help me out and steer me in right direction or find me camera lens policy for Training Camp. Working my ass off right now so I can take Monday off.

That is promising. I am gonna simply give it a shot. I will have a long walk back to the hotel if they don't let me in though.
