Pro Football Focus and Pro Football Reference are the two i hear about the most. I'm sure there's more, maybe those two aren't even the best ones.

i believe they all require subscriptions to really access them, i think they mainly serve beat reporters. i know our resident stats guy used to have access, probably still does :)

i'm just sharing the information. i have no idea how right he is anymore. when he first came on in august i really bought in on what he was saying. i've grown skeptical too, though not a whole lot.

I'm not busting your chops! I know what I saw last season. my stats are probably off - given that they are based on one game I watched at FEDEX. I counted off time on pass plays (until we split in the second quarter cuz the Skins were being crushed!). I rarely got to 4 seconds in my count.

in the end...I don't think that line has the needed size. but, there, I'm in the same boat as most others - just a layman. it's just hat I see.

Some credit, for sure. But last season, teams rushed Robert with more abandoned. Everybody knew he wasn't the explosive ROY that would burn their ass if they missed. Combine that with an Oline that can't even spell physical, and you've got mayhem.

As for Mack, I'm game. But we can't overpay. And there is likely to be a bidding war, if he's not franchised.

We're going to have to dole out some big contracts, there's no avoiding that. I'd rather see them use a big one on protecting Robert, personally.

a good center that understand protections and defenses would be invaluable to a young qb that is in desperate need of trustworthy people to lean on

Yep. OC is the second most cerebral position behind QB. A good one is worth every penny.

tshile, Lanky and I are all in agreement about the center position! There's hope for us after all! :laugh:
 
That being said, I've barely watched Alex Mack play, I'm taking it on faith (and opinion) that he is as good as is being said. :)

I'd love to upgrade everything to the right of Williams. I think we can do 2 for sure. A new LT and C would be great. I don't think Mack is the only option. But if he wants to be paid top money, 8mil+ per year, I'm not sure we can afford that, with all the other issues we have.

I have to believe there is an upgrade, with the talent level in between of Mack, and Monty, available. We can't afford to upgrade every position from the outhouse, to the penthouse.

A solid town home would be a phenomenal improvement.

I watched a few games with Jason Campbell under center last year. Mack was dominant. Of course that is only a couple games toward the end of his contract, so... But I have not seen a single report to contradict what everyone else has said, he's the real deal...probably the best in the game.
 
If wants to be paid like the best, then we're talking 10mil+. Buddha forbid he got hurt in training camp.

BB mentioned one in his FA thread, but my attention was directed to De La Puente in New Orleans. I like Mack because what I have seen is that he is a mauler, great at the point of contact and he shoves big tackles around.

The fact remains the Redskins under Shanahan were a finesse team on both sides of the ball and consistently had trouble converting short yardage plays on offense or third downs on defense.

You combine undersized with mildly athletic linemen and you have a disaster waiting to happen.

The Super Bowl was a perfect example of a finesse offensive line that got knocked back into the qb's front pocket by stronger, faster athletes.

I don't think anyone is going to accuse Peyton Manning of not being able to make his reads or being late delivering the ball.

The 49ers beat the Redskins like a drum this past season with superior line play.

Tuck had 3 sacks in one game as did 37 year old Kevin Williams in Minnesota.

All of that is because of the qb?

Cooley at times is insightful but there are other times where he describes who ISN'T at fault for things and you end up with phenomenon we see on the field that apparently happen as an act of God.

Robert is not at fault.

The line is not at fault.

The backs are not at fault.

Ok, so why did we give up 40 sacks?
 
I also think the guy on his couch argument is lame and fundamentally flawed. The point that should be gleaned there is that if the guy on the couch can see and state the obvious about something like O line play WTF can't coaches and why isn't it being addressed, not that the guy on his couch is clueless and seeing things wrong. I can buy into the notion that Griffin contributed to his own sack numbers by flushing at bad or unpredictable times, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to watch Tyler Polumbus and watch him get beat straight up by his man time after time after time to know that he's not even a 2nd tier player let alone starter quality. I like Cooley a lot but he's just plain wrong here.
 
I guess ya gotta fill in the blank on that one yourself Mike although I hope sticky leather isn't what you're stuck with. ;)
