Random Commanders Thoughts

I agree with everything else you said but this shit right here gets old.

Snyder has run every business into the ground he's ever had control over except for one.

There's a whole lot else that goes into examining Snyder's record as owner, including some loans he's taken out that aren't exactly public knowledge.

This idea that "Snyder is rich, therefore a better/smarter person than his critics" is a complete joke. The man's an arrogant, stubborn, and petty son of a bitch. And when it comes to running a football team he's proven himself incompetent.
Well first off, don't blow a gasket. I never said, "Snyder is rich, therefore a better/smarter person than his critics". But, if his only goal, as professed by most of his critics, is to "make money", then he has succeeded wildly. Multi-millionaire, if not billionaire. I'd say that puts him up pretty high on the "make money ladder".

Ergo, he was "successful" at what he does. Not smart, not better. Successful. He grew up to own his favorite football team.

You?

Yes, but you used it to shoot down a critic in a fashion that isn't new, nor rare, and irritates me. You used it to talk down to another person, simply because they're criticizing him and that shit gets old.

Just because I didn't grow up to own my favorite football team doesn't mean my criticisms of Snyder, or anyone else's, lack in value.

If I had a father that gave me millions upon millions to throw away on business after business, I may have finally hit it big enough to purchase a football team too.

I'm curious how Snyder would have made it if he didn't have his father to support his failed business ventures; one after the other. Like the rest of us.

Well, what would the new year be without me irritating you a little. ;)
And, I was talking down. He was just beneath me.:)

No it doesn't. Just as making the criticisms from the outside looking in, based on what you think you know, or personally believe, lacks serious consideration.

You mean like John Kent Cooke?

How'd that whole thing work out?

All we have to substantiate that Snyder meddled at all during the past 4 seasons is an anonymous report planted in the Washington Post on game day 4 weeks ago that the owner met with and dined with Robert Griffin several times during the previous season.

That's it. Other than that one report, I don't see anything credible regarding draft picks, free agents, or contracts that supports the idea that Snyder undermined Shanahan's ability to be successful here.

It's funny that if these things were going on that they come out in the Post on game day right before the end of a losing season.

If the Redskins were 11-5 and going to the playoffs as a division champion do you think that even if true you would have seen these reports in the paper?

Of course not.

This was Shanahan payback on his way out the door.

And as Shanahan said himself he doesn't often tell the truth to the media or the fans.

The only thing I know about John Kent Cooke is that his father wouldn't leave him the team.

I'm pretty confident I could do well if someone gave me a couple million to work with.

If you're feeling like giving it a try.... ;)

tshile - you weren't talking about Snyder in terms of daddy giving him millions, were you? Believe Snyder did it all on his own, maybe got a little seed money and worked out of Daddy's garage for awhile, but Snyder is a self made gazillionaire. There are a lot of reasons not to like him, but being brought up with a silver spoon in his mouth or living off Daddy's money isn't one of them.

You're delusional. Just because you claim the franchise is a laughingstock, doesn't make it so.

I'm pretty sure the team is a laughingstock. Dan Snyder is perceived as a big fat jerk. That's fine if he wins but he doesn't. And in my experience big fat jerks who lose are laughingstocks.

You hate Dan Snyder. Goodie for you. I wonder if you're fractionally as successful at what you do, as he is at what he does.

That's completely irrelevant to anything. I'm never going to be as successful as Papajohn but if I order a pizza and it shows up an hour late and its covered in maggots I'm fully justified in being pissed off about it.

I'm not in love with the guy, but I don't share the hatred some do. Most of it smells of pure envy anyway.

Most of it smells of pure "this goddam team loses all the time."

Oh, and news flash.....Dan doesn't need anybody's pass. He owns the team. Get over it.

Oh yes. Yes he does need a pass from his fans. Do you think Dan Snyder, for one second, thinks he doesn't need fans to give a damn about his team? He owns the product but we buy it. Or don't. And that certainly does matter.

Hmmm...

So, Mike and Kyle made it up that they thought the chain of command in the organization was problematic? That we should give DS a pass because we don't have pictures and tapes?

Personally, I think MS was lashing out when he heard folks were being approached for his job.

As much a track record as Snyder has, and his deserved reputation, it's not like Shanny's reputation is unknown. Is it likely he made that shit up on his way out the door? Uh, yeah. Don't have any idea if he did, or even if it likely that he did, but it sure as shit is possible.

The biggest factor in my changing positions and wanting Shanahan out of DC was his inability to set the example and be the 'bigger man'. You saw it with the injury controversy last year, you saw it with dysfunctional jibes and shots at his own QB at times, you saw it at the end with 'leaked' nuggets designed to make it look like the entire disastrous season was Dan Snyder's fault.

The easiest example I can give is the Griffin injury. All Shanahan had to do was own it. 'I made a coaching mistake. The kid is a competitor and wanted to stay in the game. I saw what you all saw, that he had no business being in the game at that point. But I let him talk me into it and it cost the team and him. It was my mistake'. He could've said that immediately and it would've been mostly over. But he couldn't bring himself to say it or own it.

A grown-up doesn't handle things that way. Sure - there may be problems. But you approach those kinds of things honestly, directly, and as much as possible, behind the scenes. That clearly isn't Shanahan's way of dealing with issues. And that's why he needed to go.

What if there was a back room FF game played between Campbell, Dan, Morroco and the Bruce. Basically winner took GM rights for the next 3 years.

I could see the Bruce riding his Segway down the halls dressed like Xerxes gloating his team rolled the other 4's. "You'll find that I'm a kind GM when you bow to me".

That's not what his Wikipedia page says, but it is just Wikipedia so maybe I'm wrong.

edit: and it appears saying he got 'millions' from his father was a bit of an overstatement ;)

The guy is a douchbag, and from what I understand, he hasn't changed a bit over the years. The letter is no longer hosted, but I can probably find it if you want

i would love to see that letter.

and i had to like boone's post in that thread even though it's over 4 years old.

My favorite Snyder moniker is Sarge's.

Lord Farquaad.

That's perfect. My biggest fear as a Redskins fan is karma. Because Snyder's isn't good. And as we all know, apparently, she's a bitch.

For years, I defended Snyder and tried to embrace the 'Pat Fisher belt buckle' version of him as a fan done good turned owner kind of a guy. Over the years, that view of him has been hard to sustain and I think the truth is, he's just not a very nice man, and is someone who struggles to connect with his fellow human beings in general. I do think people can change, and maybe he has. Having your wife stricken with a potentially fatal illness, having children, just age sometimes brings people insight they didn't have before. If he has changed, I wish he'd make himself more accessible to the fans of his team. Allen is a smart cat. Getting out, mixing with fans, making himself more of an open book. I really don't know why Snyder hasn't tried to connect with the team's fanbase. It would be a smart thing to do. Because without any evidence to the contrary, and without success, you're going to continue to be saddled with all of the old, negative baggage. I'll never understand why he isn't on 60 minutes, giving in-depth ESPN interviews, and doing anything he can to help us understand who he is. It's kind of sad that he's content with money and power and not much else. I believe if fans felt they really knew him, and they liked what they saw, they'd trust him and forgive just about anything. But hey, what do I know? That's just how I see it.

My life experience is that when one is losing the argument, he/she get personal. It's a losing strategy when debating. But, we see it a lot.
My life experience is that there's a difference between an opinion (what we have here) verses an argument (which you go out of your way to create).
But you're not alone. We see it a lot.

oh my god someone registered a bunch of names on twitter with Redskins in them, put the logo on, and are sending out virus links with the text that the redskins have a poll showing all this support for the name, #nfl #redskins

and people are retweeting it and as far as i can tell it's a site serving some virus.
