Random Commanders Thoughts

Should have had the duck lips picture of Spurrier lol

Believe me, that was the plan, but there aren't any usable decent quality versions of that pic that I could find :)

The experienced coaches I was discussing were ones that LOST a Super Bowl and failed to get their teams back or take new teams to the same level.

That's why I am lukewarm on Lovie Smith. Everyone talks about going to the Super Bowl with Grossman but he was in Chicago for eight other seasons as well.

If we were going to go with an experienced head coach, Whisenhunt would be my guy. Lovie Smith is far too passive for my tastes...

One day in and no new coach.

Keep in mind that this is a serious vigil. There will be daily updates. The continual coaching conclave is being done in secret, but we will keep our daily rituals too.

Let the tailgating coaching conclave commence! Would you please pass the bacon and that bottle of ketchup?

Day two and the coaching vigil continues. Please pass the steak sauce.

It was always Maryanne for me! I like a wholesome country girl over some snobby bitch every day!

On a side note:

This is what passes for sports journalism today! Kinda over the whole "it's funny to see other people's gaffes" theme that seems to dominate the news/interwebz these days. I would rather see stories where "most" people are lifted up.

this is why we never get any respect from the media when we do well.

because situations like this are literally right around the corner for this organization.

any media member that jumps on the redskins bandwagon when they start doing well is an idiot, unless they're new and just haven't been burned before. most have learned by now that time is just not on this franchise's side.

hopefully that'll change with allen.

So, is Dan in on the interviews? Or just watching though a one-way mirror?
Do you really expect an accurate answer here?

Does it matter?

The HC will be around Snyder regardless, if Allen really has the power ala Beathard... then the buffer for actual decision making is in place.

The key, other than Allen's actual skills, is whether or not Snyder trusts his GM's judgment enough to defer during disagreement.

Don't forget that JKC wanted Gibbs out pretty quickly after the poor start but Beathard stuck to his guns and convinced JKC to hang in there.

Nothing will change team perception until The Danny sells the team. With Allen remaining, I see unfettered access to players...after all, Allen let it happen already.

Brace yourself for Vinny 2.0

i'm not one of the people that clamors for respect from the media. i'm well aware of why they don't show us any respect; and have been for a while. i pointed it out at the start of the year when people were mad at predictions, following winning the NFC East.

if you think allen is vinny then you're not really paying much attention.

I thought it was kind of cute. Headline probably could've been written with a little more 'lightheartedness', but they're just poking fun...

Don't forget that Beathard left because JKC sided with Gibbs more often than not, after winning the first Super Bowl.
Don't forget that Riggins, and Butz bypassed Beathard and negotiated their contracts directly with JKC.

Winning covered a lot of warts around here during Gibbs1. But then, there was nowhere for "unnamed sources" to bitch and moan at will. Or innerwbez know-nothings to spout off 24/7.

Winning consistently is all it will take to turn the tide. Although the leash is much shorter because of our modern media, and all it's forms.

It's not about respect from the media. It's that the franchise is a laughing-stock around the league. We have no idea what Dan has done at league meeting, except he did buck the NFL by breaking a secret cap rule. That tells me a lot right there. And, how the organization treats announcers, media and the refs is important. The NFL is predicated on image. If you're the punching bag or perceived as the bad guy in the organization, you're not going to get any breaks...be it on the field or benefit-of-the-doubt about anything.

Dan Snyder has ruined this franchise. It won't improve until he's gone.

There's a reason the pukes and the Redskins aren't very successful anymore in the NFL. It's because of meddlesome owners.

What's surprising is how many of us fans constantly give DS a pass.

Not me...not anymore.
You're delusional. Just because you claim the franchise is a laughingstock, doesn't make it so.

You hate Dan Snyder. Goodie for you. I wonder if you're fractionally as successful at what you do, as he is at what he does.

I'm not in love with the guy, but I don't share the hatred some do. Most of it smells of pure envy anyway.

Oh, and news flash.....Dan doesn't need anybody's pass. He owns the team. Get over it.

I wonder if you're fractionally as successful at what you do, as he is at what he does.

I agree with everything else you said but this shit right here gets old.

Snyder has run every business into the ground he's ever had control over except for one.

There's a whole lot else that goes into examining Snyder's record as owner, including some loans he's taken out that aren't exactly public knowledge.

This idea that "Snyder is rich, therefore a better/smarter person than his critics" is a complete joke. The man's an arrogant, stubborn, and petty son of a bitch. And when it comes to running a football team he's proven himself incompetent.

When Beathard left, Gibbs tended to hang on to 'loyal' players way past their prime. Beathard was good at pushing the youth...and, he built the foundation for a decade of success.
Well, Beathard left BECAUSE Gibbs was loyal to his veterans. And Gibbs had final say on the roster.

I would also argue that many of the players we had were coached up by Gibbs and Co, and would have fared much worse anywhere else. It was a hell of a combination, no doubt. But I give more credit to Gibbs, than Beathard.

Right, but it had to start somewhere, I also seem to recall that the Gibbs-Beathard dynamic involved a basic change in the direction of the team. Gibbs' smash mowf formula vs Beathard's vision of adding speed, getting quicker. I suppose that JKC went along with the current winning formula rather than shaking things up.

Gibbs made for a pretty good 'face of the franchise', too.

The contract/money thing was totally different then. Don't believe that Riggo and Butz used agents to bargain with JKC directly and I suspect that JKC could handle the matter and it's doubtful that any guarantees were included if they were cut, let alone having consequential effect on the salary structure for the team.

But you're right... winning is a panacea for all ill's and that 'winning formula' becomes genius.....until it fails and like you say, the media seems all too willing to let us know when that failure is in the wind.

It all comes down to results.

Al Davis and Jerry Jones were a-holes from the start. Nobody liked them.

But Davis won and in the beginning Jerry won with Jimmy/Troy and so any criticism was blunted by success.

After the Raiders started to lose and Jerry became his own GM and hired a succession of poor coaches then the knives were out.

My prediction is that if the Redskins hire the right coach and Allen's vouched for guys in the front office, Brown and Campbell, bring in the right players, Dan Snyder's reputation will be largely rehabilitated.

People overall, and the media is no exception, suck up to and adore winners.
