Chris Cooley's been saying every week (for the most part), that the offensive line grades out pretty well. That it's really hard to block when you don't know where your QB is, or where he's going, or when there's no rhythm (essentially blaming Griffin for majority of the sacks.)

Now he's citing Cousin's play as a prime example of what he's been talking about.

Most frightening scenario at redskins park that no one wants to really, honestly entertain:

That we drafted a coach-killing qb and will spend the next 10-12 years trying to find a coach he likes.

so the OL cant block because they cant see behind them? Why do they need to see anything? Just dont let the guy around you...its why its called blockiing.

no, it's not about seeing, it's about knowing where the guy is and creating and keeping a pocket.

robert bails quickly at the first sign of trouble and runs around.

he's not doing what they practice all week so they're blocking for a pocket and he's 5 yards outside of it running for his life.

Justin Tuck cleanly beat Tyler Polumbus for a sack in the NY game. I saw that one with my own eyes.

I saw Kevin Williams beat a Montgomery/Chester double team and get a sack in the Minnesota game.

I don't know what others are seeing.

Does Griffin contribute to the sacks with his late reads and delivery at times? I believe that.

Do I think all of the sacks this season are due to the OL? No.

But man on man this line is the smallest in the NFL and has four starters that have been released by other teams.

That lack of investment does show up against the bigger, stronger players, units they face.

Just look at the San Francisco game.

We were simply outplayed up and down the line for 60 minutes.

It wasn't a case of poor effort. The players just weren't good enough.

Not to rag on Cooley too much, as I have always liked his candor, but I do recall him having nothing but glowing praise for McNabb at the beginning, which hasn't until fairly recently turned into how terrible he was even to start. I seem to recall him saying how nice it was working with a "real Pro NFL QB" or something like that.

Just saying, he's been known to give rather emotional responses.

Yeah, I'm with Mike - Cooley's comments are horse shit. "Not knowing where Griffin is going to go" doesn't cause our interior OL to get destroyed by one or two guys routinely. You either block them or you don't.

Cooley's motives are unclear. Is he looking to protect former teammates? Is he looking to protect an owner that brought him to the media organization after his playing career was over?

Cousins was getting blasted as well. I recall him getting de cleated as well He made some good throws and some bad ones but the Oline played awful as usual. Lucky for us and Cousins there are no really good defenses he will have to face in the last few games.

maybe. but is he right or wrong?

when I listen to him he obviously will protect confidences and access. but his "insider" analysis on what should be happening, play design, who should be doing what is also pretty good.

the pocket is obvious. you all have lanes that go straight back...dont let them get past or behind you.

sorry, but the whole right side of the OL is garbage. They get NO pass for the amount of hits that Griff AND Cousins have taken.

agree with ya - I'd get rid of just about all starters except Williams. but the QB play factors in as well. RGIII was holding the ball too long early on. he was missing receivers even when protection was adequate.

The Redskins have not had a qb from Campbell, Grossman, McNabb, Beck and Griffin that hasn't been pummeled in the pocket.

The OL has been an ongoing issue for several years before Griffin arrived.

Besides, rookie and second year qbs ARE supposed to go through some growing pains in learning the position.

The fact Griffin is not yet Montana in terms of his release doesn't mean we should ignore the 'one Mississippi' offensive line we have.

Fletcher 99% certain this is his last season.

Also, backs Shanahan. Calls him a great coach and the right guy to coach team. Thinks he should be extended.

edit: just listened to the audio, Keim worded it poorly, he said last home game.

According to Adam Shefter Griffin's father has been on the sideline for quite a few games last year and this year. He specifically mentioned the Cleveland and Dallas game last year, and the phili game (I can't remember which year he said)

According to Fletcher - bringing Shanahan back would be the wise move, 95% of the players are behind that.

The QB issues started with Shuler and that was not even the worst of them. I don't ever remember having a decent oline to put a great QB behind that entire time either.
