Random Commanders Thoughts

Umm...did Chris Cooley really call Dez Briscoe, Dez Bryant?

Lots and lots of talk this morning about Griffin and his comments and him dressing for the game and doing pregrame warmups.

Most of them using words like petulant, insecure, or saying things like he can't handle not being in the spotlight. There was anlysis from some beat reporters saying Cousins is a better passer in practice, knows more about route trees and is used to them due to the college system he came from.

Sigh. I hate the Preseason.

I actually think there is something to it... they brought up him holding his own press conference after the browns game when he didn't even play.

He's clearly not happy not being the starting QB. I suppose you can spin that however you want. Hyper competitive, attention craving, insecure, etc. Something worth keeping an eye on though...

Perhaps he isn't handling it the best way possible, but I personally wouldn't want it any other way. The guy believes this is his team, he wants to be on the field. He knows the lasting image most people have of him from the 12 season is his knee bent back and him limping off during the Seattle game, after we were leading, and could easily have won. He wants to erase that memory and get back on the field to show how dominant he is.

I have no problem with it at all. None.

So you think there is something to accusations about Griffin being petulant & insecure? Maybe he just loves game day and dressed to show his support, and be part of the team. Maybe the best QB we've had dress for this team since Sonny Jurgensen deserves a little benefit of the doubt, and we'll just go ahead and call it competitiveness and "will to win" until he starts doing something other than showing complete and utter support for his teammates? At the end of the day, it is HIS team - maybe he thinks this is what he is supposed to do?

His competitive spirit, after all, kept him on the field long after he should have been against Seattle. I don't think that's petulance and insecurity.

competitiveness.

that said, radio and various other reports I have heard pass that he is not planting his right leg (he's flat footed) on passing and has a slight limp when walking about in training camp (more than just brace according to these people). so, what I gather is that RGIII is ahead of sked but not physically ready yet. Shanahan is doing the right thing.

I haven't seen the stuff about a limp and being unable to plant anywhere...who's reporting that ???

Hogshaven mentioned it in one of their training camp reports - I will try to dig it up.

EDIT:

http://www.hogshaven.com/2013/8/5/4592566/observations-from-mondays-redskins-training-camp-session

At the very end of practice the Redskins were doing the 1-minute drill rotating QBs. RGIII didn't take his last couple of reps. He was walking around with his head down and what appeared to me as a slight limp. Earlier in his presser, RGIII stated he had not had any soreness or swelling, so perhaps this is the brace, but to me, and this could be wrong, it looked like soreness. After major knee surgery soreness is expected. I'd be surprised if Robert doesn't have a maintenance/free day off here soon. Again, nothing to worry about, just an observation. He looked sharp out there and this part of the process of easing him in. Mike Shanahan said last week that any issues Robert had he would not be sharing with the media and fans, which I respect. Keep the drama in-house.

I know saying anything negative about Griffin brings out everyone's pitchforks. So..

First off - I'm sharing what's being reported.

Second off - no one is saying anything negative about his abilities, intelligence, talents, or worth to the team.

Third off - Try to keep an open mind here...

You can say that, and in general I would agree, but there aren't just random people or national media trying to fill space i'm talking about. These are local beat reporters that are otherwise well respected by most redskins fans. Beat reporters that have been watching how things have been going on at training camp all day, every day.

This isn't Mike and Mike. It isn't some BS ESPN mid day show trying to get ratings. These are guys that make a living covering only the washington redskins.

I'm saying it's something worth watching. If the biggest thing we have to worry about from Griffin is that he can't handle not being the center of attention, then that may not be that bad of a thing.

I'm going to be really curious how he behaves if Shanahan keeps him out of the opener. Griffin has made quite a few comments that suggest that would be a big problem. Including the one the other day where he said "If I do everything they ask, then they have to start me opening day"

I found it interesting that after the game Shanahan said Griffin will not be participating in 11 on 11's while the team is in Richmond. He said the extent of his practice will be walk-throughs where he doesn't go against any defense.

Chris Russel was reporting a limp the other day.

Quite a few beat reporters have been reporting sloppy footwork and issues planting throughout camp.

The way it was described pregame yesterday by one was that he's very up and down - one day he looks great, the next day his footwork looks really, really bad.
