Former Redskin and S-talker extraordinaire Fred Smoot is/was doing an AMA on Reddit. Some of the highlights:
"Man, everybody asks me something about that damn boat"
On Zorn vs. Gibbs:
"you gotta understand that I love coach gibbs. He taught all of us how to be men. Jim Zorn was definitely out of element but he was a great coach and just an interesting person. It was hard to take him seriously and when things started to not go so well, they were already looking for Shanny!"
On after football:
"that's why I had to stop playing. I was physically just in pain every day. You have to remember that I never missed a start from the time I was in high school until I was in the league. My back and shoulder is still pretty messed up. It's hard to admit it but I wouldn't be shocked if the effects of CTE have taken their toll on my mind."
On the Steve Smith "row the boat" celebration:
"Man, Steve Smith is a beast! I'm happy to say that's one of the only times you'll see me get it on tape. He's a real S talker and I was still young back then. He's one of the greatest! Bless you."
On what he would tell NFL rookies:
"learn the game. learn your playbook. study your ass off. I sound like a dumb southern football player but I picked up the scheme fast and I was a student of the game. the football players with the longest careers are the smartest. They learn how to play the game with least amount wasted movement. Look at a guy like Ronde Barber."
On the best WR he ever faced:
"Great question and not as simple as you'd think. The thing about it was Champ was usually on the best receiver so I got thrown at a lot for a while. I want to go more in depth with this question on the podcast later on my facebook but I think if I had to really pick one of the top of my head I probably WOULD say Randy Moss. He was just so damn tall and so damn fast!"
