Got photos and autographs from Cooley and doc walker today. They were a lot of fun to be around. I'll post some of the things they said later.

Cooley is a lot bigger than I thought.

I got to see the locker room. They post the NFL rules in small print on big posters like 15 feet up in the air.

Remember that next time Shanahan says during a presser that they post in the rules in the locker room for all the players to see, blah blah blah.

They did have a list of banned substances in the training room that was actually readable but it reads like random entries from a latin dictionary.
 
Philip Thomas has a left foot injury. Think Shanahan said a ligament tear. 4 to 5 month recovery. Will be placed on IR.
 
LOL Holy crap Chris Cooley just ripped McNabb on his show.

He's having Steve Czaben repeat play calls as a joke, to show how hard the play calls are. He reads them to Czabe like an OC, and Czabe has to repeat them like a QB in the huddle.


Cooley says that every part of the play call is important, every part goes towards whats people are doing. He then says...
"Don't McNabb it and leave words out, because then no one knows where they're going"

by the way, he gave a gibbs play call, and its name was ****ing hilarious. It was:
Ace Right, Short Wizz, Charlie 70, Blizzard, Z Fizzle, X Weasel
(formation), (motion), (protection), (default route), (z route), (x route)
 
Donovan McNabb became washed up at 33 because he failed to adapt. The style of play he brought to the NFL in 1999 was unsustainable once he aged and could no longer gain the edge on the defense and make plays on the run. He never developed the proper mechanics and footwork to be a consistently accurate passer from the pocket.

Reid covered up McNabb's deficiencies with quick hitter pass plays to the TE and RBs and then play action down the field for longer yardage.

McNabb never really developed into a true pocket passer.

That is in sharp contrast to guys like Steve Young and Warren Moon who WERE successful in adapting their game as they got older.

It's ironic that McNabb blamed Shanahan for not adapting, but he knew when he came in that Mike and Kyle had a system they wanted to run and it appears Donovan was simply deluding himself that all of that would be tossed out and the entire team would be remodeled to fit HIM.

McNabb was never a franchise passer in the mold of a Manning or Elway, and overrated his own skills.

Nowhere was that more obvious than in Minnesota where he only lasted 6 games. He said when he was released he would pick up his career elsewhere.

But no one took a flyer on him and he finally retired, which only validated Shanahan's evaluation.
 
I will never, ever forget the look on Kyle Shanahan's face at one point in what proved to be McNabb's last game as starter against Detroit. McNabb is bringing the team to the LOS and starting to call out signals, and the camera switches to Kyle on the sideline. The look of utter WTF bewilderment on Kyle's face as he tried to parse what he was seeing still resonates with me. Keep meaning to go back and find the tape of that moment to re-confirm what I thought I saw and learned then---that Donovan did not have a ****ing clue what he was supposed to be doing.
 
McNabb didn't really ever seem to be that engaged when he came to DC. At 33, I think he knew his career was in decline and the Redskins in Year 1 under Shanahan was just starting to rebuild. He kept saying things like 'it will get better when we become better acquainted' etc. when the performances on the field were not there and promised future improvements which never materialized.

And I clearly remember after he was benched just for the 2-minute drill in favor of Rex, how all the so-called "pundits" like Michael Irvin blasted us saying, "How DARE you bench a future hall of famer, like the sacred Donovan McNabb." And how we're going to regret it, and how it was racist, etc.
Well he may or may not be a future or hall of famer, but he was certainly a former star at that point....at best
 
What was amazing I think for everyone including former players was HOW QUICKLY Donovan McNabb's skills declined. He went from being productive at age 30/31 to essentially being done at 33.

In Washington, he could no longer get outside and escape the rush. He was no longer accurate throwing on the run which had been a staple of his early career. And his long ball off play action other than the Houston game was just no longer there.

This was all confirmed in Minnesota.

I think Irvin like a lot of other people were shocked at the yank by the Redskins but that was because they had not seen enough of him at age 33 to see the decline.

Notice there was no real shock when the Vikings cut him to start Christian Ponder.
 
I think it's appalling how little media attention RG3 has gotten since he was drafted :laugh:

I love Raheem Morris - I know he's not that popular around here, but he's awesome IMO.
