We have possibly the most valuable trade piece that Seattle would want. A safety who can walk in and replace Chancellor day 1. Jeron Johnson knows that defense already, he's been in that system, and could go into their camp not needing to start from scratch.


I don't want to just get rid of a guy we just signed as a free agent, but if Seattle is about to lose their starting FS, then he could be very valuable to them.

All of the free agent signings/talk sorta has a familiar ring to it, doesn't it?

Kinda like the stuff that has failed here so miserably for so long. What happened to building from within? Oh, yeah. I forgot. Look out for that new shiny thing.

The biggest difference is that we have a capable GM making these decisions. This isn't like years past where we've picked up a bunch of journeymen and/or stars past their prime. The vast majority of the moves have been picking up strategic pieces, mostly in the valuable part of their career.

Also, these deals are generally short term, and cost effective. We can only build from within over time. Kind of hard to field a team of 53 players when we only have 7 rounds in a draft.... We won 4 games last year. Changes needed to be made and free agents are a necessity when it comes to building a team. If you look at our O-line, they are building from within. Did we add 1 free agent OL this offseason? I don't think so, or am I missing something? We now have 3 of our own draft picks starting on the O-line in Williams, Long, and Scherff.

If you're Seattle, and your starting FS is threatening a holdout, you've just dumped a ton of money in your starting QB and a starting LB.. and you can bring in a guy who knows your system and start day 1, why does that seem out of line?

I didn't say it was going to happen, but it would make sense for both parties. All of this is reaching, always has been. Deals like that generally don't take place in the NFL and I understand that. I like Chancellor, I'd love to see him here, but I'm not naive enough to think Seattle would trade us Johnson for Chancellor straight up.... don't worry.

The Hawks GM isn't that stupid, McGoo didn't do everything there as some of us would love to believe. If the safety we got from Seattle was day one starter in Seattle (if Kam leaves) he would more than likely be heralded as the starting safety here, which he is not, yet maybe.

When I said Day 1 starter I was referring to his knowledge of the Defense, not his skillset.
Earl Thomas is on the PUP list recovering from shoulder surgery, so right now neither one of their starting safeties have taken a snap on defense this training camp.
I agree, it's pie in the sky optimism, thrown out having some fun and as a hypothetical 'what if.' Part of me does think he wants OUT of Seattle and if he does, we make as much sense as anyone as to where HE would want to go. Doesn't mean Seattle would even play ball with it, but we were talking about again... a 'what if.'

Sure it might be a little silly but isn't that what fun conversation is? I'm not asking you to agree with me.. never have. We were looking at a hypothetical, planet aligning, having fun conversation. Sorry if our fun was too much for you, but hey... we're silly aren't we?

That's one thing that is beating my brain silly. They had 2-3 guys who just signed deals within the last year or two and are now threatening to hold out... ? These aren't exactly rookie deals, either.

Why is it so hard to believe that a guy who grew up in the area, with a GM that is now here, wants to play for the team where his idol is?

Obviously he's not happy in Seattle for whatever reason or else he'd be in camp.

None of us are high or silly...we're just having a conversation about a guy we see dropping hints.

I'm just having a conversation about a couple of guys having a conversation, which I strongly disagree with. If you can speculate about him "dropping hints" then I can speculate about the mental clarity of any party connecting those dots and dashes. In other words? Pass the DUTCHIE!

Scot wasn't a GM in Seattle, I wish people would stop trying to make him THE responsible party for their success. Schneider is top notch as opposed to Snyder Scot has told you a hundred and fifty times that he believes in building through the draft. We were a total mess personnel-wise so he got some free agents, what makes you think he's gonna go all Cerrato on us? I find it really hard to imagine that he's going to sign a $7-10mil per year safety!

Please don't reference the allowance of an opinion, then try to start questioning our 'mental clarity' when referring to OUR opinion because it differs from yours... seems a little hypocritical doesn't it?
