I'm not sure I agree FS. I think a lot of the finger pointing and chest thumping is not so much a result of the actual crime, but more due to the incredible mismanagement of past situations by the NFL. I think there is a feeling that the NFL has some catching up to do in a couple of different ways. First, it seems to be behind the times in how its employees treat women. Women's rights have exploded in the past few years and the NFL seems stuck in the 80's or earlier. Secondly, there is a sort of cumulative justice that appears to be desired. By that, I mean that many people feel the NFL skated on the domestic violence issue for years, did nothing to address it and let a lot of offenders off the hook. So now, any player (or front office person for that manner) who engages in this type of behavior is expected to pay for the sins of the metaphorical father as well as his own.

Not "fair" as it were, but those seem to be the expectations of a lot of angry people. Goodell really couldn't have screwed up the Ray Rice situation any worse than he did in retrospect. I think we all knew it was a disaster when it happened, but his "management" of the case was, in some ways, catastrophic.

As a side note, your question about drinking and driving, while irrelevant to this discussion, is an interesting one to me. I have long wondered why Irsay hasn't been publically excoriated and castigated far more than he has been for his DUI. To me, that is an enormous societal problem that is waiting to explode. I was a bit surprised neither he nor Stallworth seemed to register...
 
Goal...I don't disagree. but that's a different line item: how the NFL approaches these events. I'm just saying...and it doesn't apply to everyone obviously...that there are many in our society who are hair triggered to point the accusing finger and believe the worst about others on the slimmest pretext....but never apply the same criteria to themselves and how they conduct their lives. I see it every day.

I'm more afraid of texting drivers than I am of high drivers.

The whole Stallworth thing just bugs the crap out of me. It always has. We are way too lazy in the way we throw out labels in our society and completely disregard facts. Even without the relevant point about having a few and driving home, the Stallworth case is a horrible example of double standards in the NFL. When someone says DS got drunk and KILLED someone the implication is that he was too inebriated to drive and that his level of impairment is responsible for the death. Problem is in DS case nothing could be further from the truth. The guy he hit wandered onto a highway, it was a matter of when not if he was going to get hit. YES DS deserves grief for driving drunk/buzzed but the false equivalency of him versus someone like Josh Brent is almost comically absurd and tedious in my mind.

Yeah, definitely had never heard that aspect of the situation. Always good to know the facts!
 
Serious work going into the Media Guide Library. Hope to have it mostly complete by the fall. We are missing some of the earliest guides, namely from the 1930's (not surprisingly - even the ones we've found are repro's) and some of the 1940's - but other than that we have them through the 2000's. If anyone has a paper or electronic copy of any of the following, please contact me:

I'm pretty sure I have all of those you listed. When I get home I'll check.
 
If someone is willing to go on Twitter and upload abuse picks, they should be able to file a complaint and have Crowder officially investigated and charged.

That's the one piece that doesn't add up.
Seems after the Twitter 'outing' of Crowder the alleged victim disappeared from site completely.

As if she never existed.

You're right - they should be willing to pursue charges. But this is classic domestic abuse behavior. Whether it's out of fear, misplaced love, or some other factor, a lot of women refuse to file charges. That part of it (again, assuming the event actually happened and it was Crowder who did the beating) shouldn't surprise anyone.
 
True but can't an over zealous DA charge him anyways? Basically with or without her consent?

Seems many of the vultures already do.

Maybe but how does the public 'outing' of her abuser fit in with this behavior. The internet offers no protection and making it public does nothing for 'love' or shame.
Perhaps it was a bonafide 'help me' move and she feels protected somehow by everyone knowing something's up but with no follow up, it seems to be a bit hollow.

On the other hand, no legal action just might give credence to the 'hacked' defense of Crowder.

Exactly.

plus...I'm not sure the meme really fits. I know plenty dudes raked over the coals with false claims in divorce proceedings. Abuse is a recurring theme. I don't think women as a rule are afraid to play that card. there are obviously instances where it does happen - and it wouldn't be surprising to learn that the incident rate for athletes is higher than the societal average.

does crowder have any previous record of violence?
