Times are tough right now, and much of the country is in immense pain as we await the coming of the new football season.

Do we watch the Cornhole Regional Championships on ESPN 25?

The Hopscotch Semifinals?

Curling?

And then, out of the blue, the rains stopped and the sky opened, and along came Power Slap!

At first watch, I thought this might have been the most ignorant thing I had ever seen. Are these "strikers" on the Audubahn to CTE? You bet your ass they are.

But an additional 30 days without our beloved football has broken down my defenses.

Celebrate the glory of Power Slap here!

Yeah, I lean towards Libertarianism in my political sentiments, but there is an argument to be made that this should not be allowed. Sponsoring events where folks are giving each other traumatic brain injuries - is that really acceptable in this day and age (whether the participants are engaged of their own free will or not)?

I can't imagine any responsible network putting this on the air... at one time it was shown on TBS, but they canceled it and it's now purely an online offering. Power Slap is owned by Dana White - who was filmed slapping his own wife, so apparently he's a big fan of brutality. What a joke the Nevada State Athletic Commission, who 'sanctioned' Power Slap as if it's a legitimate sport.

I guess it's going to take one of the participants dying on a live stream for someone to say enough and put an end to it.

I’d much rather watch women’s curling. 🫢

I find it just, dumb, aside from the aspects of potential brain injury Boone mentioned earlier, the idea is just....dumb.

All valid concerns, and I didn't even think about the Dana White connection.

I'm not in love with it......and definitely felt like I needed a shower after watching it.

Then again.....we have 60 days left to go before football arrives.

Here are some other bizarre competitions I would rather watch than the power slap. The cardboard tube one is for me. I ruled the house back as a kid when the xmas wrapping tubes were emptied. I could sword fight my mom and dad like nobody else.

Ear Pulling

The Eskimo plays a game to test your pain tolerance. Two competitors face each other with a loop of string connecting their ears, with the intention of pulling the string off the ear of one another. The sport looks deceivingly simple but some competitors actually got stitches after the match.

Cardboard Tube Fighting League

Every year, the Cardboard Tube Fighting League has competitions around the US and Australia. The “warriors” gather at these events to battle each other while wearing flimsy homemade armor. Apparently, the goal of the battle is to break the opponent’s tube without breaking one’s own. The Cardboard Tube Fighting League allows participants ages 5 and up to engage in responsible combat while sporting cardboard. The event’s premise is “to get people to play more,” which we support wholeheartedly!

Dwarf Tossing

Originating in Australia in the 1980s, dwarf tossing is a controversial and insensitive “sport” in which participants throw a consenting little person, usually wearing a padded suit or harness, as far as they can. The person who throws the farthest wins. Widely criticized for being offensive and demeaning, dwarf tossing has been banned in many jurisdictions. Its continued inclusion on our list of dumbest sports serves as a reminder of the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect.
