Commanders QB Jayden Daniels
On how the game went:
“We won. It went pretty well.”
On how it feels to be part of an offensive that is “explosive”:
“It feels good that we’re able to execute the game plan, but we still have room to grow from there.”
On if an explosive offense feels normal for him after last year’s offense at LSU:
“I guess you could say so, but for us, we still have room to grow. We’re not a finished product at all.”
On working with Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury:
“It’s awesome, me and Kliff just have that communication, that honesty. I’m able to go into his office and
say, ‘Hey, I don't like this.’ He's here for it, he wants us to put us in the best spot. ”
On the conversation after the interception:
“They didn't really say anything to me. I want that one back, but you're good, move onto the next play.
The NFL is always about the next play. You can't go back and fix what happened in the past, but nobody
really had a conversation with me about that.”
On how it feels to be a quarterback with so many options:
“It's awesome. Those guys do a good job of getting open and knowing the timing and the depth of the
route, so it’s awesome working with them.”
On what happened with the interception from his perspective:
“I threw a pick, threw it behind (Commanders WR) Terry (McLaurin). Just something that we haven't
talked about. I saw it differently, but I guess you could say I kind of got greedy. In this league, that's going
to happen if you have tips or overthrows they're good players, so they're going to be able to pick the ball
off. It is just, how can we bounce back?”
On working with McLaurin to avoid that kind of mistake in the future:
“It's just communication. We just have to talk about stuff that we’ll continue to talk about.”
On Commanders running back Jeremy McNichols’ performance:
“It was awesome. He's a very hard worker, a hard runner, downhill guy. It's just awesome to see people
be able to go out there and make the most of their opportunities.”
On thinking it could be this good this fast for Washington:
“I didn't have any expectations. How much can we learn and how can we keep growing? For me
personally, how much can I learn and keep growing? How fast can I learn to become a pro? I'm going to
keep going from there.”
On having more attention coming his way this week:
“Just in general, coming back to Arizona - this is where my college career started - so practicing at ASU,
first time being back, things like that. There could have been a lot of distractions, but you have to put your
focus where it is meant to be and that's football.”
On the hard lesson of learning to let mistakes like interceptions go:
“You don't want to throw a pick at all, but that is football. Things happen, you’re going to have a pick,
you're going to have a turnover, but how can you bounce back and limit those and keep moving forward.”
On practicing at ASU this week:
“It was bittersweet being back knowing all the memories I had here with guys that I built relationships with,
that are brothers to me, seeing we all started here. It was kind of weird just being back because I haven't
been back since I left, so that was the weird part. But it was awesome being back here, being back in the
desert, seeing a lot of places that I was at before where I lived and stuff like that.”
On what coming back to Arizona meant for Kliff Kingsbury:
“It meant a lot, coming back here after being a head coach here for a couple years. Now coming back
facing his former team. I know it meant a lot to him.”
If the team had any extra motivation going into this game:
“I would say for me personally, no. I'm pretty sure there was a little motivation like, ‘Hey, we want to go out
here and play hard for those guys,’ it was obviously their homecoming back. But for us, we just got to go
out there and execute.”
On examples of Kingsbury putting him in a good position:
“It's just like, how can we execute a play call no matter what the play is? If we could get all 11 guys going
in the same direction, we have a chance.”
On if it was weird seeing Commanders punter Tress Way punt:
“No, not at all. It's football. I'm pretty sure a lot of people have high expectations for us as far as things
that we've done in the past, but that doesn't matter. It is football, it's the NFL, those guys get paid too.”
On if they’ve made a statement coming out and leading the division after four games:
“I think that's for people to determine. For us, it is how can we get better each and every game? It's early
in the season, so we'll have to finish the year. I can't put anything on it, but I know teams look at us and
say, ‘Hey, those guys play hard.’”
On getting back to practice at home:
“I'm happy to go back. It's always good to go back home with a win and now we're on to the Browns.
”
On patience for waiting for blocks to get settled:
“That's just how I've been running the ball ever since I was young. It's nothing I was working on. It's just
the vision and how I can see blocks getting set up.
Commanders WR Terry McLaurin
On the atmosphere in the locker room after the win:
“It's fun times right now, the way we came out together and played as one unit. When you do that and
capitalize on opportunities, then you get opportunities to win big games like this. We're excited to
celebrate this on the way back, but get ready to come back home (to face) a good Browns team.”
On his support for his teammates during the game:
“I'm a big cheerleader out there. I'm happy for myself, sure, but I'm happy for our guys. I'm happy for
these guys that put in so much work in the offseason, have come from all around the league to be a
Commander. And for the guys who've been here for so long, we haven't quite had this feeling. To get this
group of guys who care about each other and work extremely hard in practice out there and make plays.
Like I said, (Commanders RB Jeremy McNichols) J-Mac, (Commanders WR Olamide Zaccheaus) O.Z.,
the list goes on and on for guys who made plays. I’m excited for them because they’ve worked extremely
hard to give us a chance to win games so I love anytime I can hype my guys. Even (Commanders TE
Colson) Yankoff and (Commanders TE) Ben (Sinnott) making tackles on kickoff. That’s huge, it’s big for
morale. You know everybody wants to have a hand in trying to get us a victory.”
On Commanders QB Jayden Daniels’ performance this season:
“I think he's really confident in what he's seeing. I think his preparation is very unique for a guy who's just
got into the league, and that was him (from) the first day we met him when he got here in the spring. His
preparation, the way he attacks practice, the way he is starting to conduct the film sessions at the end of
the week for the receivers and the tight ends. It's no surprise when he goes out there and he executes at
a high level. I think last week and the weeks leading up (to it) he’s just gotten better and better. He is
really trusting what he is seeing. He is giving us chances to make plays down the field. As playmakers,
we just have to continue to come through for him. I think he is seeing the field well. He is extending plays
when he needs to extend plays but he is also keeping his eyes down the field when scrambling. That just
adds another element to our offense when a quarterback can hurt you from in and outside the pocket.”
