Not very good, but I had fun rhyming anyway

Never going to fail
Charging down the trail

Raise Hail! Raise Hail!

Philly fans in jail
Cowboys off the rail
Mara's a Giant fail

Raise Hail! Raise Hail!

Defense tough as nails
make their passes sail
and offenses go stale

Raise Hail! Raise Hail!

Running like a gale
Receivers never gonna fail

Raise Hail! Raise Hail!

This is from the pictured 1958 game program.
The "Fighting Redskins" is a clipping out of an older program, but I'm not sure of the year, or if that song was ever sung at the stadium, which I assume was Griffith

Cool! Thanks for posting!

Off the top of my head, I believe those are the lyrics that served from '38 to '71. They were changed to remove "Scalp 'em and some other stuff in '72. Dixie was inserted in '59 and taken out in '62.

Edit to correct "'33" to "'38"

A lot of sources on the internet claim the original lyrics included "Dixie," but they didn't, as indicated on the old programs and media guides.

Poll Choice Ideas regarding what to do with the lyrics:

1) Who cares? Ignore Snyder's new Commanders lyrics completely and just sing it the old way, they can't stop us (ex1. fans are doing that now anyway, and ex.2. "Ohhhhhs", is sung every game during the Star Spangled Banner, even though we've had our own baseball team for 20 years)! Or leave Snyder's Commanders lyrics as they are, even if the rhythm is wrong and the lyrics are nonsensical. We, the fans, can just sing it the Snyder way even if it's awkward and stupid. Either way, we do nothing regarding suggesting changes to the official team lyrics.

2) Fix the lyrics and/or the music & lyrics to correct the rhythm to the original 1938 version such as in the OP or something similar - one syllable per musical note as it was intended. See two examples at bottom of OP. Submit to team.

3) Completely re-write the music and the lyrics from scratch. They removed the team name completely. They removed the team logo completely. They removed the team font completely They removed the team's identity completely. So they should remove the team's fight song completely - both music & lyrics.

Comments/suggestions welcome

I'd vote for number 3 even though I love HTTR. Hail to the Commanders just doesn't work for me. Not sure if it ever could. Let's make something new that musically speaks to this century and this team.

I got the improvement:
That extra 1/16th note used on “Com”? I moved it to the word “to”. The flow is so much better.

As for the third line, I changed it to “Brave our fortune favors”. People wanted the word “Braves” back so much that this is the best way it can return. By the way this line is based on the famous ancient Roman line “Fortune favors the bold”. Translators say “bold” can also be “brave”.
Obviously we speed up the tempo.

But at the very least, make the flow of the song better. As long as the 1/16th note is moved, we can attempt other lyrics for line 3.

Here is the lyrics, scoresheet and a video I made singing it.

Looks like we may have a winner!

I put it at the bottom of the OP. Thanks again!
