PFT: Washington may be in the Mariota business

I don't want Griffin in the pocket. He doesn't get production from there. I want him to morph into more Wilson-like or Romo-like. Mobile throw on the run know your second reads at all times, then make the play and avoid injury. That's what I want out of Griffin. That doesn't mean pistol or tricked up offense. We can be more creative. Griffin can be more versatile and Gruden can improve his playcalling. Like in Cinn. Gruden's forte was the defense didn't know what play was coming. He was out coaching the opponent. We need to get back to that and utilize Griffin to do it. IMHO

Kinda hard to do if your QB doesn't know what he's doing....or they are gun shy.

Unlike Roethlisberger or Wilson, Griffin is not accurate throwing on the run.

That's part of his problem. When he does improvise, he does well on his feet but not necessarily with his arm.

Romo? He is leagues ahead of Griffin in terms of reading defenses and being able to feel pressure.

Bullshit...He's great on the run and you can't prove otherwise

And the fact you tried to say romo was better than him is some bullshit

You can take that bullshit to cowbum town.

He hasn't been great at anything since year one. Cowboy hate aside, Romo is much better. 32 out of 32 teams take Romo over RG. Romo actually has pocket presence. Yuck I feel dirty now.

True fan. I never really liked McCoy and was surprised at his success here. He's a guy you want on your roster and hope he doesn't get into the game. But that means Griffin has to be the guy to be in the game. Where I'm at with Robert is....let him be himself use him to his talents run him to death...I don't care. Just like running backs, run them and then run them some more. Then we move on, but I don't want to witness his pocket passing game. We can be more creative than that with him. Gruden has to get with that program.

Micks...if I understand you correctly..I agree: there needs to some middle ground where Gruden installs and runs the fundamentals of his scheme, but he needs to adjust for some of RGIII's strengths (ala Wilson). Griffin either performs or he is done. while I can see like everyone else that RGIII had serious issues anticipating and reading....I also think he never really has had a chance to adapt to the new offense given injuries and rotating favorites of the week. if he can't cut it this season - see ya RGIII.

btw...watched parts of a replay of the Philly/Skins game that Cousins started. Cousins played well....but also stared down receivers in almost every instance I saw. I still think we are most likely looking for a new starting QB in 2016.

You can put the hate aside...but I'm a redskins fan. And I'm burgundy and gold obsessed.

**** romo, **** dallass, **** the bums

Griffin and the redskins beat them every time we need them to.

Ll

Lots not be delusional folks.

Romo's stats are impressive, I don't care who you are.

I hate the Cowboys. But, setting aside Romo's affinity for choking when it matters most, Griffin can only dream of being a QB with his kind of year-in and year-out production. At least so far.

Yeah..impressive for a mediocre qb.

Impressive for an undrafted player

Impressive for an overpaid overhyped over slobbered player

Parcells said it best when he said he wasn't ready and didn't want him leading the team.

**** romo

**** DALLASS!!!

Here are the actual facts:

McCoy came in for Cousins (as he imploded) in the Titans game and went 11/12 for 128 yards and a TD
McCoy then won us the Dallas game, going for 25/30 and 300 yards
Griffin was given the start against the Vikings (probably a mistake), went 18/28 and we lost on the road.
Against the Bucs, we got stomped, with Griffin going 23/32 and throwing 2 picks. Great!
Against the 49ers, we again got trucked, with Griffin completing just 11/19 for 106 yards. More impressiveness.
Gruden has seen enough, and Colt comes back against the Colts. He throws for almost 400 yards, completing 31/47 passes, 3 TDs, and no INTs.

Are we seeing a trend yet?

Against the Rams, Colt played poorly (aka, in line with Griffin's typical performance in 2014), completing 20/32 for 200 yards with a couple of picks, getting injured in the process.

So, no, he didn't have '1 good game'. He played great in relief against the Titans, he outright won us the Dallas game, he played fantastic against the Colts, and he had a poor showing against the Rams. Those are the facts.

facts are great! so is context. go look at McCoy's record.

- he has never had a wining season

- he has the same injury issues folks charge Griffin with with....consistency is a good practice!

- no other teams want him....in a QB poor environment at that

- "great" is a subjective term employed by you against no measurable standard. since "winning" against Dallas seems to be one standard around here: what has Colt McCoy won in his entire professional career? nothing, nada, zip, zilch. well, his record is a "fact". CAREER LOSER. somehow...it magically becomes the teams he played for when rationalizing his losses? but the same standard doesn't apply to other QBs? this one is such an easy call. Colt McCoy doesn't have the tools to win. At best.....he becomes a game manager who can execute pieces of Gruden's offense. In short......the offense becomes a Ciny-like offense: good enough to produce a winning record during the regular season when coupled to a good defense.....but crappola in the play-offs when team play AND talent prevail.

Trying to recreate the impression that this guy somehow was a world beater is laughable. Colt MvcCoy is a washed up nobody who will never, ever win any championships. never has won any championships. he has the singular virtue of not being Robert Griffin in Jay Gruden's eyes.

I hope Gruden does hitch his wagon to McCoy - that will expedite the transition to a coach McL views as better suited for the vision he has in mind.

Colt McCoy! bahahahaha. How Washington Redskins like! Talk about reprising the past.

I have never said he is a world beater. But he did play substantially better than the other QBs last year, notably Griffin. That was the question at hand. Did you watch all of his starts? I don't see how anyone can argue the point.

He's proof that we can win games if we can get even average QB play this season. Just something short of disastrous.

Jason Campbell could move this 13th ranked offense in for touchdowns.

Boone..I did watch every game. And I wasn't impressed.

What I'm really fighting here is a mindset: settling for a loser at the most important position on the team is a non-starter and follows too much established tradition in these parts. the mindset ought to be that we want the best for the most important position on the roster. it may not be Griffin or Cousins (though I'd rather see Cousins before McCoy). guess what I'm conveying is that Colt McCoy as starting QB is accepting mediocrity - there is a reason no other team is even mildly interested in McCoy.....but we Washington Redskins...because we're desperate...will accept any mediocrity....and implicitly tell the fans "screw you...hand over your money while the caretaker/placeholder makes Jay feel good about himself."

another issue lurking behind the scenes here: a lot of folks will be happy with 8-8 performance..that's what Colt McCoy really symbolizes. not how I look at things. we need to stop screwing around with the QB position and get serious. and Colt McCoy is not getting serious. It's Jay Gruden settling.

if McCoy was all that "great"...why did the Skins not lock him up right away? can't be just the injury. it's because he wasn't seen as all that valuable and they knew there was next to zero demand in the league for his skillset - he'd be available down the road.

btw...I agree with your position on Romo....with the caveat that he does seem to have a choke quotient higher than the average.

I've yet to see anyone suggest Colt McCoy should be the Redskins QB going forward. Am I missing something? The conversation I thought was being had was about whether he played better than Robert did last year. To me, a no-brainer answer: absolutely.

Heading into 2015 I don't believe I've seen anyone even hint at the idea that Colt is or should be anything more than an option as a stop-gap should Robert fail to progress or get hurt, and Kirk can't beat him out for the #2 spot.

Ummm... wut?

you could be right.

what I see is a guy who won one game and a host of rationalizations for the other games (i.e., a different set of standards). the RGIII comparison doesn't factor in my thinking. looking at McCoy - the conversation rather strikes me as "well...ok....at least she has all her teeth!".

Lol. We have the 13th ranked offense in the league, even with a "horrendous" O-line. What does that tell you? Gruden also led the league in red zone efficiency in Cincy. What I believe should be clear is that:

1. We obviously have an offense that gets WRs open consistently. Ranked 13th even with 3 different QBs should alleviate any concerns about if what we are running works in today's NFL.

2. We have an offense and HC that has shown the ability to score points--and better than anyone else once inside the 20 in Cincy.

Now imagine if we had good QB play last season. Would that 13th ranked offense had moved up to 7th? 5th?

I think the focus of the conversation (for anyone who wants to respond to whats actually been said, you know, versus what you think you have a cogent argument ready for...) is that the fact that McCoy could come in, look competent, and execute the offense DESPITE his obvious physical limitations and being in his first year in the offense, makes Griffin's inability to do so more concerning.

And as far as Romo goes - hey TR1, try to keep up buddy... no one is talking about the HOF (except you). And the reason you are talking about it is because you can't provide any actual evidence that Romo isn't currently twice the QB Griffin is. The truth is a *****. Again, I don't like Romo, I think he IS a choke artist, and I don't want him QBing my team. But as a pocket passer he is light years ahead of anything Griffin has shown to date. If you want to argue that point, I'm welcome to participate (and good luck!).

Well... I kinda thought Gruden was brought in to make the QB better. So you're going to have to define what "better" means, and where we are going to get "better" QB play from. If you want to pin everything on the QB position - I personally think that's crazy - at least provide us some insight for how we're going to get better there.

I tend to think the fact that our D couldn't stop ME at QB last year had a little something to do with it. I know everyone wants to pretend the Vikings game came down to a couple of bad Robert throws, but the fact is that he led the offense down the field in the 4th Q, twice - if memory serves, and the D promptly turned around and bent over for a Freaking rookie QB. So, in that case, I put the blame on the D.

I think Robert played really poorly most of the year last year. What I can't figure out is why you're unable to admit that stats don't tell the whole story for football, and that our OLine pretty well sucked. How many times did we see Albert get hit in the backfield? It was bad. Really bad. And it's OK to admit it. Really, to be fair, we should admit that the entire team, down to the medical staff and waterboys, sucked ass last year. We were bad. There were a few bright spots, but if want to put the OLine up on the list of bright spots? Well, puff puff pass, baby.

Lovie Smith hints the Bucs are open to trading down | ProFootballTalk

Total, probably BS speculation about the Bucs willing to listen to trade offers.

Someone has to do it......wait for it.......wait a little longer.........

RG3 plus our 5th pick plus another 3rd to move up to the top spot.

Totally unlikely, I know. They'd probably want RG3 plus our first and second this year, and another first or second next year.
