PFT: Gruden says the “clock’s ticking” on Griffin

Pretty sure the reports coming out, whether you like it in the public eye or not, screams the buck stops with Gruden.. whether it's true or not is yet to be determined, only time will tell.

Just to be precise - the ONLY problem I have with Gruden's approach is that it's public.

If he is trying, he is failing. Badly. I already am questioning his managerial skills, now you have me questing his coaching acumen as well.

I wish people would put themselves in this situation. You come to a company as a 'hot commodity', never having had anything but success. You have some success but then struggle mightily. You don't mesh well with your boss. There's a lot of office politics going on. And now your shortcomings/struggles are being put out there not just for the whole 'company' to see, but there are articles in the papers about how you are ruining the company and are responsible for it's lack of success.

Who among us, seriously, is going to respond well to that kind of 'motivation'?

We hear it about any player this club thinks about releasing.

I agree DP. You're certainly right about that. But it's also possible with a guy who's as talented as Griffin is, that it may well prove to be true this time if it happens.

Ridiculous. Aside from the fact that we've heard this about 20 other players.....where's Seastrunk again.....his injury issues make it highly unlikely that he'll even last another five.

Well, since you like spitting out numbers, how about naming at least ten of those 20 some odd players that went to other teams we expected to burn us at annual meetings. How long he's in the league is yet to be seen, but just because you say he won't last doesn't make it fact.

Redskins are embarrassing themselves on the field - and that's public.
If they were concerned about public embarrassment, maybe they oughta concentrate on their football execution that's on public display for millions to see, and is so obviously detrimental to their public persona.

I cannot show much sympathy to players who are publicly chided, but who are making millions of dollars, but are not even acting professionally. Their play speaks for itself> Gruden is just saying what's obvious to everyone. If they want to hear better reviews, then play like a professional

Well aside from the usual (yet imo legitimate) arguments that I don't currently make millions of dollars doing what I do, and he does...

I'm sure there are a lot of pieces we aren't privy to. I'm sure the office politics at Redskins Park are absurdly difficult to manage, I have NO doubt about that whatsoever. I'm sure that the climate under Snyder isn't ideal for a new head coach to learn and grow. I have no argument with any of that.

But Gruden is making things worse, not better. Physician, do no harm. Unless you get frustrated because you're in a shit situation. Then do what you need to do. I don't think that's how it goes. It's hard for me to have a lot of sympathy for a guy who is actively, imo, making a poor situation worse. If he would stop pouring gas on the ever-raging dumpster-fire this team has become, I'd be more sympathetic.

And it certainly is fair to blame an awful lot of his failure on the climate at Redskins Park. So we might just be able to chalk up another coaching failure to the cluster-**** that is this "organization". It's a shitty situation, but Gruden is making it worse.

Put it on Griff's shoulders. Let him unequivocally fail. Give him the chance to bury himself. If Griffin is as bad as Cooley, Gruden, and everyone else in the football universe is saying, let him fail. This season is done, so let Griffin play himself out of the extension. Be the bigger man, keep your mouth shut and let the play on the field (good or bad) do the talking.

I will only support the benching of Griffin if he's moved this offseason. That would tell me that the football people have made the decision to go in a different direction. I'm not saying i WANT him to fail. I dont want it to get to that point at all but the only justifiable reason to bench Griffin is that they feel he's not the answer going forward.

The worst thing that could happen to this franchise right now is to simply bench Griffin in favor of another QB in order to try to salvage 1 or 2 victories this season. IF Griffin is in the future plans of the Washington Redskins, he needs to be on the field, regardless of production.

It's not a fact Miles. Just opinion.

If a player has already had two kneee surgeries, two concussions and a dislocated ankle then I don't think it's outrageous to suggest that he's unlikely to last another 15 years in the league.

I'll copy and paste this in June if we dont see a change at DC and a largely different roster, but I'm going to be patient with him regarding making a defensive change during the season. There has to be a reason behind it. Griffin might seem targeted publicly, but he's also the only one firing off publicly. I dont know if it's getting covered nationally, but the media took the Griffin comments from Gruden and acted like he said nothing else about anyone else. He was critical of himself and the coaching staff as well, it just didnt get covered.

I guess where I differ with some is that I didn't interpret Griffin's post-game comments last week as blaming others. I thought he took ownership of his own poor play, and was only saying that the whole team needs to get better. He is not always 'artful' with his comments, but I honestly don't think he was trying to deflect ownership or throw others under the bus. Maybe I'm being too generous with that assessment - I don't know. And again, the head coach and players aren't 'equals'. I fairly expect that the head coach lead by example, whether players are doing so or not.

Yeah but it 100% unprofessional to call out a player unless you intend to get rid of him. This team has no heart, no discipline, and no clue. That is a direct reflection of the HC....

I hope all this turns around but I just dont see it happening
