PFT: Gruden says the “clock’s ticking” on Griffin

Idk, I kinda like the honesty. I mean griff needs to put up or shut up with this contract coming up.

Hell with 20+ years of overall piss poor play & PC coach speak a culture shock's in order.
 
Gruden's only 'honest' about what's wrong with Griffin. Where's all the honesty about how he plans to turn this thing around? If he's got a plan, I sure as hell haven't heard it? 3 wins a year whether you've got a control freak prick at the helm or a gee whiz 'honest' hardass running things - it's still failure. I'm willing to be patient, but I've yet to hear a reasonable explanation for gutting Griffin while everyone else on the team doesn't have to worry about getting called out and humiliated publically - why is that?

Exactly. The repeated detailed statements by the coach about Griffin seem to have distracted everyone from the total disaster of a game the whole team played last Sunday. Why did the team look like they had no practice or coaching last week? Completely lost and undisciplined. Why? And what is being done to correct that?
 
Oh I hear ya Boone, it should be spread the hell around. Even keel should be the name of the game if there's gonna be call outs. I just know that player friendly/coach speak hasn't done jack for us in the past. Players and coaches alike need to get it together.

Hell if it would turn this team around I'd be up for launching baby ducks out of a tshirt cannon from the 50. Idk if this is the best way to go about a wake up call or not but at least it's something different.
 
I don't know....I'd say if Chester and Lauvou were mouthing off in the press, Gruden would call them out in public too.
 
Next 2 that could use an open criticism is Chester and Clark. Hell wouldn't mind an Amish style shunning for shaming.

I'd say Typo too but I think he's found a permanent seat on the bench.
 
This is mind blowing, but what I get from this is that Gruden is telling us he's going to bench Robert if he doesn't look good in the first half of the game Sunday.

He totally called out or insulted Ryan Clark like I've never seen a player insulted before.

He also rode Orakpo prior to his injury.

One offensive player, and two defensive players so far.
 
He hasn't gutted any player like this to the national media.

Not if he continues to call Robert out in the press. I think this is an effort to distance himself from Robert.

I am starting to think Jay is playing his hand in challenge to the relationship RG3 has with the Dan.

Am I the only one that thinks this might be Jay's way of challenging Snyder? Sounds like he is saying, Robert needs to shit or get off the pot and by doing so in a public setting, after a game like last week...he is essentially telling Dan that Robert needs to be benched if he doesn't perform.

Of course, I base that assertion on the reports of Dan Snyder's relationship with RG3. I am starting to think selling tickets with Robert behind center is more important than winning. I am starting to think tr1 is right about the Dan. I just keep coming back to the one constant in this entire abysmal 20 year run in DC.

Yeah, I'm not sure where Gruden's head is with that interview. It almost seems to me like he is actually wanting to re-entertain the McCoy thing & to me that's very dangerous. McCoy only started 1 game, & rescued another from Cousins. Does he really think that the 3rd stringer is better than his starter?

I, too, am curious how the "in-house" problem solving fits into this when he is still throwing Robert into traffic & telling him it's time to deal with this like a man. Really? I honestly can't fault him for how he played in Minnesota. I thought he looked pretty doggone good in that game, all things considered. It was the defense that dropped that game for us, not Robert. For him to say that he hasn't played well in the last 2 games? Hmm...

I don't know. Maybe we are here again with another coach that is giving up before the season is over, throwing his hands in the air, doing the "duck lips", & saying "Eff it. I can't take this pressure here." Either way, if I were Robert after this interview, I would have a very difficult time trusting my coach from now on. And if things are that bleak with Robert, then yeah, sit him now & get him ready for the trade block. Don't even play around with this kid any more. I don't know, I really can't wrap my head around that one.
 
What I really don't get is...why does he have to gut anyone to the media. How many other teams do this? Week in & week out, year in & year out, it's like the coaches & players here feel the need to vent their frustrations in front of the cameras like the media is their best girlfriend complaining about her boyfriend. It doesn't make sense to me. When you watch ESPN & they start showing things from other teams, I know that it happens sometimes, but you almost NEVER see the coach throwing his players under the tires of a bus like ours do. It amazes me & disgusts me. It's as bad as school yard drama. There is NO NEED to air this stuff out in front of the media, local or otherwise. I don't care what they want to know. What happens in the locker room should stay there. Period. Calling out your players to perform better or they will be benched? in front of the National media? Really Jay? I gotta say, I think I just lost respect for him, honestly. I can't, for the life of me, understand why a coach would do that intentionally.

He wants to throw people under the bus? I'd like to know how it is that the first week he's a coach, he literally said that it would be "foolish" to try to make RG3 a "pocket passer" yet that is exactly what he has done. He's finding out what we all already pretty much knew. That won't work. He's not a pocket passer for one thing & for another, the OLine sucks. You trying to make a running QB stand in the pocket behind a line that couldn't block action figures falling forward & it's a recipe for disaster.

Aside from that, I don't see much of a difference form Mike & Kyle to what Jay is doing at all. I figured, a new coach means a new system, which should equal a little bit of a new thing, some creativity, some level of ballsy plays...something different. I don't know that we've seen anything like that. Very little creativity. How many end-arounds have we seen? How about reverses or double reverses? Sometimes the play calling leaves much to be desired & it seems to me that he is asking Robert to fit into his box of ideas rather than trying to fit his ideas into Roberts wheelhouse.

Regardless, I'm tired of this ridiculousness. This bickering using the media as a go-between from player to coach & coach to player is just childish. Settle this stuff in the locker room & support each other in public. I think this will backfire on Jay. And I know I said if I were Robert I would find it difficult to trust Jay at this point. Truth is, if I were any player in that locker room, I would feel that way. "If I mess up or have a bad game, is he going to call me out in front of the national media, too?" I wouldn't want to play for a guy like that.
 
Ok that's enough...Football is a tough sport and it get's tougher when a team is in the midst of 2 back to back seasons as a bottom feeder. The team needs better play from the qb position and it's possible someone might get their feelings hurt. I see that I'm in the minority here but I like the brutal honesty and I'm a Griffin fan...I really don't want to start the off season wondering who our qb is. I'm certain Gruden doesn't.
I can't say he meant this or he meant that by his statements. I can say I think he meant what he said. Griffin isn't playing like a starting qb going into his third season. So it sounds like a sink or swim moment for Griffin. I personally hope he finds his groove. Win or lose Griffin needs to claim his spot and start making plays...

Gruden was hired to...as you eloquently phrase it..."elevate" Robert. RGIII tubes...Gruden tubes as well. I wouldn't keep anyone around who can't succeed at the primary reason he was hired.Is he firing at RGIII - or is he panicking? To me....juts like letting Allen chose his staff....he's an amateur in over his head. Moreover, RG doesn't make it...Gruden is looking at 2 or more years of developing another QB. Cousins and perennial loser McCoy aren't going to take any NFL teams to championships. Gruden is screwed if the RGIII ship sinks.

this franchise needs a real coach...and a capable coaching staff. it also needs, in the worst way, players who actually want to win. what we see before us now is a joke.

Will the talking heads be able to get past the Griffin talk and even mention the undisciplined, seemingly uncoached team as a whole, ten games into the season?
