So one reporter writes a story about rumors and gives his opinion on them, and the rest of the media takes off and reports it as fact. Every time I read these stories, I think of this scene from the movie The Natural.

In my opinion, putting him back out there (short a McCoy injury or McCoy totally collapsing) would make zero sense. To what end? If you think he can 'develop', you never should've taken him out to begin with. If you don't, why in the hell would you start him again. At least keep him healthy so he's got some trade value at season's end. And starting him again? That's going to raise all kinds of questions (and rightfully so) about who's actually making decisions about starters and who isn't.
I could see a scenario where they pull him out just to give him time to realize he needs to start trusting his reads and just leaving it out on the field, instead of over-thinking things so much he chokes. A lot of the things I have seen on the tape could possibly be attributed to that.
I see this as the best case scenario, that he just needed to have some time to get his head right. I'm hoping he can use the time on the sidelines to see his mistakes and do what needs to be done to correct them. If that means throwing with anticipation to the point of an interception, I would rather have that then the constant second-guessing of himself that has been shown lately.
Of course, that could just be wishful thinking on my part.

This. Gruden has suggested all along, that in practice, Robert was doing the things he needed to do. Mechanics, throwing on time, etc..., but it wasn't transferring to game day. For all we know, he got tired of just threatening to make a move to get his point across. Like a parent saying 17,483 times, "If you don't stop that I'm gonna...", starts to ring hollow. (After the 3rd time)
Who knows? I sure as hell don't. But I still believe that Robert can be a great QB, for us. I think he's worth the time to make it work.

While I like the sentiment that, given how bad we've been the last couple seasons, Gruden is not closing the door on ANY possibility. This sounds a lot more like Schefter trying to throw out a statement that will be used to re-butt all the media coverage of the Jason Reid article. Yesterday and this morning, all I've heard is the Jason Reid article. This reeks of Schefter just trying to say something to be used in the same conversations.

All of that and you grab onto an eye roll? RG has definitely provided some eye roll moments. There is a significant list of RG shortcomings there that many of us have been saying since the beginning of last season. You'd have to be blind to not see his shortcomings.

These are all things many of us have been harping on, and now you see the coach probably has the same concerns and you dismiss them out of hand? A coaches job is very much to judge his players on work ethic, talent, skill set, attitude etc.... I'd say Shanahan had the same concerns and that led to his first benching.
Why do you assume Gruden hasn't been working with him? Maybe Grudens frustration is that he has been working with him and he's either not getting it, or is not doing what's necessary.
We've had 2 coaches with reputations of being good for QB's bench RG. At what point does some blame get put on the common factor here?

And as far as Dalton goes...he has great moments...but he isnt a great QB yet.

So sick of the marketing point. Griffin has made very few new commercials in the last several months and the hardest working guy in the entire league does more commercials than anyone else (and has since College) and it hasn't affected his ability to do the work necessary to be a top pro...Manning, heck look at JJ Watt, he's all over TV and he's still lighting it up. Furthermore, the time when he was spending the MOST time marketing himself is also the time he lit the league up: 2012. The notion that he doesn't put in the time doesn't wash and neither does the theory that he's been distracted or lost football time to marketing ploys. It's just silly.
So Shanahan who hasn't really done a thing since Jake the Snake (and that failed pretty badly), who brought us McNabb and Haynesworth and Grossman has credibility because of what...his time tutoring Young and Elway, two HOF talents he coached over 2 decades ago? And Jay Gruden...Andy Dalton and what? I get your point but would hardly stack up either coach as having much of a resume for truly developing top notch QB talent. Those are media labels not supported by any facts from this century. Shanny hasn't done it in decades (ask Denver fans about his QB development) and Gruden's crowning achievement is a guy who has done nothing memorable at all.
Just to be fair I was snowed by the whole Shanahan QB guru thing too but it kind of fades to irrelevance when you tie in all the other things he does as a team leader/gm to cut off his own nose to spite his face. ie Haynesworth and McNabb or all the rumor mongering and leaks, or the whole Haslett, 3/4 defense thing and on and on. I dunno Mike. We're all making assumptions and suppositions here. I didn't say Gruden was blameless. Certainly his frustration has gotten the better of him and his public handling has been poor. That doesn't mean he hasn't been working with him. I suspect it's the opposite, and his frustration stems from the lack of progress. I tend to put most of it on RG because if it was simply a matter of him not being able to get it, there wouldn't be the frustration. There would probably just be resignation and we move on. Unless he's getting internal pressure to make RG work out despite him not getting it. This is all supposition of course, as it's impossible to really know what is going on. But he's been sat down twice by different coaches. Regardless of what your take is on their pedigree, that isn't coincidental and it points to more going on than simply coaches not working with him.
"The kid can learn and that has been proven". I believe he is very smart, but I don't think he's demonstrated at all that he can learn to be a capable NFL passer from the pocket. I think he hasn't demonstrated it because he hasn't put in the right type of effort. I believe he works hard, but not on the right things. Not only does he have to learn to be an NFL pocket QB, he has to learn how to learn the trade, because his career was built solely off his athletic ability. Again, all supposition, but he's too athletic and too smart to be this far behind in year 3, even with the injuries. It just doesn't add up. I think the best thing that could have happened was for him to ride the pine the first two years while learning. It would have humbled him and given him some time to learn absent all the pressure. He came to the NFL lacking any real pro type offense experience, and we screwed the pooch rushing him along. It's clear we made a bad decision out of desperation using all those picks. Had he been better prepared for the NFL team, it would have been ok. I'd like us to try to fix it, but not sure enough time now.

Just playing devil's advocate here... Dalton's having his least productive season yet and it happens to be the 1st year he didn't have Gruden. Absolutely not saying it's the end all, seeing as it's 2/3 of a season, but I just wanted to point that out.
I don't like the QB Guru mantra either... IF he can continue to get 300+ yds, 2+ TD, <2 INT per game from McCoy, then I do think he deserves a little bit of credit for getting production from a less then elite QB. I hope he can find a way to get Griffin to that same level of production but only time will tell, because Griffin is the one who is supposed to be at that level. Not saying it's all on Griffin either... He's on this team so he's Gruden's responsibility.
I agree CT, but remember it was Shanahan who took part in evaluating RG too. In retrospect we gave up too much for a talent that was years away from operating an NFL pro offense. Pile on the injury and mishandling of that and it's just snowballed out of control. Had he not been injured, we may have been able to ride his Option skills to more successful seasons while he learned the other facets on the job. It just didn't work that way, and now the Option is understood and can be defensed much better than in 2012 and is not a viable option in the same way. And I don't think he's retained the speed and elusiveness to run it the same way. His only option for success is to learn the Pro Pass game within which we can mix in Option plays that he can run like numerous other teams now do.

Zac Story - RB - 1257 rushing yards in 2013/14 combined
Out of all of those guys I will say that Ogletree is the best and only one I can look at and say "I like that guy". The rest are meh.
Griffin has learned to slide, he has learned to stay in the pocket, and he has tried to be what Gruden wants him to be. Why hasn't Gruden installed ANY read option plays for him? Why don't we have Griffin rolling out of the pocket yet we have McCoy doing it at least once a drive? So many things point to the fact that Gruden just doesn't like RG III and is using his playcalling as a way to make Griffin look like a failure.
McCoy has dropped back too far when he shouldn't, hes been slammed, hes held on to the ball, he has thrown horrible throws and checkdowns...but what is the word from Gruden during the week..."McCoy is having a great week at practice". Yet you always heard the criticism of Griffin and how he needed to constantly improve. I find it hard to believe that a career losing starter and mostly backup QB is that much better than our MVP winning one. Call me a homer if you want..but 2+2 doesn't equal McCoy.
And does it not seem odd to you that we went from having TWO quarterbacks that were good and the luxury of knowing we could trade Cousins for possibly a 2nd or even 1st to now having them both on the bench for a career backup? That doesn't scream failure of the QB to me..that tells me the coach is either not working with them or doesn't know how to get thru to them to help them.
