Denver's offensive line is poor in pass protection. Moreno has been hurt each of his seasons in the NFL. So, the offense needs to be partially rebuilt.

There is still the draft and some unsigned free agents out there. The benefit coming with Manning is he just costs cash not picks.

Denver has a good set of rushers on defense, although like the Redskins they need to upgrade their secondary.
 
There are rumblings of Denver using their first as compensation to the Steelers to sign Mike Wallace.
 
Now, why would the Steelers trade the rights to Wallace to a team that if you surround Manning with talent could challenge Pittsburgh in the AFC?

This is like the Packers offering to trade Jermichael Finley to the Giants.

Just doesn't make sense.
 
Let the Colin Kaepernick era begin in S.F.

They traded up to land the guy in the second round. Considering the circumstances (losing out on Manning and likely losing Smith), there seems to be no better time than now to prove that he was worth moving up for.

He's a RFA, signed a first-round tender. Any team can sign him, but have to give the Steelers a first-round pick in compensation.

Steelers could match any offer, but they're kind of in a bad financial state also. Wouldn't be too hard to deliver an un-matchable contract.
 
If the Broncos give Manning a $30M bonus I would think they will be up against the cap. No?

With Hines Ward now departed from the team, the Steelers really need to keep Wallace.

I am surprised they didn't work out a deal with him before he reached free agency.
 
The main reason I hope Smith leaves SF, is to show all the obsessed media and fans that Harbaugh isn't the glorious coach they made him out to be. If he is the second coming of Shula, a season without Smith will show it.

Great coaches find a way to win with what they have. No excuses.
 
I think he's crazy to go to Denver. San Fran is insanely stacked with recent signings of Randy Moss and Manningham.

If I'm Alex Smith.....I only go back to SF if they double my salary.

He's got them bent over.

Except that nobody else will give him much of a contract. He's got slightly more leverage, but not THAT much leverage.
 
But SF now doesn't have any leverage.

They can start Kaepernick and most probably take a step back from where they were in 2011.

Or they can go out and sign a David Garrard, Donovan McNabb or other free agent quarterback who teams think have moved past their primes.

Or they can try and make a trade. But who is available via trade that is going to take this team to the Super Bowl. A quarterback of that grade would have been gobbled up by the Redskins, Jets, Dolphins or Cardinals once they were eliminated from the Manning derby.

Oh he's got leverage. It's him, a draft pick....which they would have to move way up for, or some scrub second stringer.

He looked really good last year....especially in the playoffs.

They moved up for Kapernick as someone else pointed out - they don't have to give Smith anything. Give the reigns to the kid, send Smith on his way. And maybe Smith looked okay last year, but I'd be more inclined to notice the 8 years of mediocrity before the 9th year of adequate, but that's just me.

I don't even believe that's an option.

You don't bring in Randy Moss, then give him some rookie and expect him to do anything but explode and quit. May as well just throw that money out the window.

You pay what Alex Smith wants right now.....moving up in the draft isn't an option. And I hope Smith makes them pay a ton if he returns. Hopefully he doesn't.

The Steelers aren't exactly in great cap shape now or they likely would have taken care of Wallace before he ever hit the market. Word is out that they are somewhat resigned to losing him for the 1st round pick because they are faced with having Antonio Brown hit the open market next year and of the two they want Brown there more and don't want that much money tied up in the starting WRs.
 
Geez, this Manning crap is all over the TV here in Bronco Land. Already sick of it. I feel sorry for Tebow. A lot of fans are not happy about it. The "knowledgable" ones are either taking a wait-and-see approach or are downright happy. Pretty polarizing subject here. I'll be staying away from the TV for a couple of days until it blows over.
 
I doubt smith ends up in Miami, the dolphin fans seem to think that was only if manning went to san fran. Expect to see garrard in Miami along with a later draft choice developmental.
