You know what - players never stop saying 'Its a business' until a team makes a business decision. The front office has to look at the big picture and the long haul, not worry about which player's will be upset about their 'dawg'. It's a player (Cousins) who created this situation to a large extent by refusing to even field the team's offers when it came right down to it. I really don't want to hear about the poor millionaire athletes outrage. 95% of these guys are hired guns who have no real loyalty to the team who's paying them, or only have it until they get the chance to jump ship for more money. You know - because 'it's a business'.

From a strictly value perspective, trading a 29 yr old Cousins for his 34 yr old twin would have been okay. Not great, but okay.

The true cost of the move?

We just gave away a 22 yr old, very good starting CB.

A 3rd round pick. What do we need those for, right?

And another 2nd? round pick that we now have to use to replace Fuller.

And all within the environment of a QB-heavy draft and teams like Minny and Philly likely to release at least temporary starters.

It's nearly impossible to make Vinny Cerrato look smart.

Cousins was gone. Period. He has zero relevance in the conversation. We will recoup the 3rd round pick in 2019. Zero relevance in the conversation.

So all we had to do was draft the next Carson Wentz. Sounds like a peice of cake. Got it. Problem with going to the draft with so many teams in front of us drafting QBs is that we were probably destined to take a huge risk at pick 13 on a Mason Rudolph or whoever drops there, or make an epic reach to a guy who rightfully is a 3rd or 4th round prospect. Instead, we get a proven QB who is (despite some of the ridiculous descriptions here) is a talented guy.

I think it's a reasonable deal.

Exactly how was he ‘about to walk'? He had a year remaining on his contract. He was either going to be traded or cut, which wouldn't have happened for months.

I'd have tried hard to shop Breeland instead of Fuller. Not a believer in Breeland. They may have started there and that wasn't good enough - who knows?

I'm also not convinced that shipping Fuller automatically means we re-sign Breeland. He's going to want a ton of money imho, and to me, he's one of the most overrated defenders on the team, and a headcase on top of that. Watch Redskins fans heads melt when we lose him too We might draft 3 DBs in this draft (2 corners and a safety)...

If you read carefully, he may mark the Redskins as losing in the deal, but it's only because of the mess they made over the years in dealing with Cousins. Nothing about it being a bad deal for them now.

As I've thought about it more this morning, I'm fine with the deal. Cousins wasn't coming back. I think that became more apparent each day after the season. The transition tag game is somewhat dangerous because you don't know how it's going to go. We got a proven QB, at a cheaper price, and that position is settled for a while. We had to give up a younger guy CB, but that position is easier to find than a QB and now we have more cap room. I'll certainly feel more comfortable with Smith behind center than Cousins.

For those that don't think this FO can do anything right, do we really think they would have handled the Free Agency or potential tradeable QBs any better? It might not be perfect, but I think they did ok.

I mean, they both easily could have said, "We're just concentrating on the Patriots right now", and everyone would have understood...but

I myself would rather see us snatch up a stud DL to go with (prayer) a fully rehabbed J Allen, or a beast LB in the draft. IMO we can shore up the 3rd level through FA.

I looked at Bree's twitter, which he's normally active on - and not a peep about losing his comrade.
That tells me, that maybe he's not coming back.

I think it's safe (let's hope) to assume that Smith will look good here. Gruden put Dalton in a position to be successful, and the same with Kirk. I think all three are interchangeable.

That's not why this was such a bad deal. Here's what it comes down to:

GM 1: 34 yr old QB that's about to walk. He gets a third rounder and a very good 22 yr old starting CB for him.

Wrong. 34yr old QB was under contract. Not "walking" anywhere except where the Chiefs wanted him to. They had multiple teams after him, and in the bidding war, we had to up the ante with Fuller. A good young player, sure. But his departure isn't the death blow some are making it out to be.
It just isn't.

GM 2: 29 yr old QB that's about to walk. He (hopefully) gets a third rounder and no 22 yr old very good starting CB in return. Furthermore, he loses a very good 22 yr old starting CB on top of it.

The price you pay to do business. You act like we could have gotten Smith for a conditional 2058 7th rd pick.

One GM plays checkers. One GM plays chess. It's that simple.

It's complete crap.

One guy made out.....and one got abused.
