Opine on the picks

Don't know if any of these guys are going to be any good. I don't watch college football and I don't read up before the draft. I only care about these guys once they become Redskins.

Of the draft, I can only say this: For once I do not see Snyder's grubby little fingerprints all over the place. There is no way a team led by Dan Snyder takes a Right Tackle in the fifth spot. When Prisco complained this wasn't a 'wow' pick I wanted to reach the screen and slap him. Seriously?

If Snyder were running things we draft that DT, and the Redskins are selling his shirts the next day.

Maybe our picks will all suck. Who knows. But at least this draft may be signaling a fundamental cultural shift at Redskins Park. Maybe. I'll hope for the best.

I really like this draft, in full. Its what I hoped to see from SM . Maybe not now, but soon we will have a foundation to celebrate again.
 
The last two picks are head scratchers.

A WR that lacks athleticism and a Center that lacks NFL size?

Unless Reiter is going to be a long snapper I don't see a role for him at 273 pounds on the line.

Gotta hear the rationale for Austin's selection.
 
BPA? I have no idea, but teams do it a lot in the later rounds it seems. practice squad players?

NFL.com has him at 6-3 296. Same weight as Lichtensteiger and an inch taller. I don't know anything about him, but it doesn't sound ridiculous.
 
BB explained that Austin went up to 305 by the time of the draft, so you can ignore my comment there.

Still wondering about what made Spencer a pick here. I get he is 6'2 but he doesn't seem to make many plays.

The fact we didn't jump on any of the problem picks or shiny toys and went after some substance (at least it looks like it) has me happy. I think Scot has a long term plan that may not look like it's working at first but will come together.

I'll be really shocked if he fails here after being so successful in the other 2 places.

let's work on the assumption today was about special teams. they probably figure an upgrade there is worth at least one W next season. I think the defense will remain the primary problem child.....but we have the next draft to stock it with younger players.
 
Well, the first 4 picks were O-line, a hobbit, and a bruiser RB. Hell yeah I liked this draft!
 
on day two you either go with boom or bust guys which is risky or you take lower ceiling but lower risk guys, we went low risk, but im still wondering why we took a RB when 2 very good olinemen were still available and why we would draft a return man and a wide receiver who had 15 catches in his final season.
 
I like the accent on size and toughness early with Scherff and Smith, but later picks such as Kouandjio, Mitchel and Spencer had me scratching my head.

We took two wideouts but once again no one that combines size and playmaking ability.

Crowder is a shrimp at 5'8 and 185 who makes some plays, while Spencer is 6'2 and 210 but was used sparingly at Ohio State and limited to short yardage possession catches.
 
You can't see the special teams ability in them? You don't think our GM may know what he's doing?

yup. what will happen is that this draft will eventually be compared to his other drafts at SF & Seattle. no way to tell now. all I know, at first glance, is that the later round selections don't seem to fit the profile he has told us he looks for. not sure if this is because he was out-maneuvered by other GMs or there were other voices in the decision process who carried more weight than we have been led to believe.

Scherff is a good pick from a need pov. I think the key selection vis the quality of this draft will turn out to be Preston Smith. If he does not mature into a pass rusher with comparable skills to Kerrigan.....I think this draft drops considerably in overall quality/intelligence.

per the usual....none of us know right now.
 
I don't watch college football, but I am really pleased with the draft. I LOVE the first pick, and really like that they traded down to add picks. Can't help but laugh a little at you guys scratchin your heads over late round picks.
 
Each draft has its successes and failures.

Let's face it, if Scherff, Smith and say Kouandjio become pro bowlers down the road McCloughan will be lauded as a genius regardless of the fact Spencer or one of the other late picks doesn't make it at all :D

No, I am not down on this draft. In fact I think the first 3 picks will make an immediate impact, and Jarrett seems to have the physical playing style of the Seattle backs and could be a surprise contributor as we have starting safeties with some question marks.

Spaight the linebacker got a lot of love from the draftniks on ESPN and with good coverage skills at 235-240, one wonders if Perry Riley might be in some trouble down the road.
 
Yeah, the late round picks are long shots to make the team anyway. You swing for the fences there realizing that you're gonna miss for more than hit.

I've got my eye on Crowder. Knowing nothing at all, I like what I've heard...
 
Looking at highlight footage on Kyshoen Jarrett.S.VT....looks like a beast on special teams...pretty good returner,nasty hitter.
