In the end, though, I think you have to go with the players that are competing. When a guy shows that he has lost the fire and doesn't want to sacrifice for the team on the field, you have to move on, no matter what he had done in previous seasons in Philly. He was no longer that guy.

You contrast Wentz with Alex Smith, who was popular with teammates and came back to help the team win games, raising the morale of the troops despite being still limited in what he could do on the field.

If the choice was playing Heinicke, Howell or Smith in the same situation and Smith was in 2022 where he was in 2020 then I would have sat Heinicke and gone with Smith.

I also think that if you are going to throw Howell out there one week later you might as well have thrown the dice at putting a guy with no film to review out there against a Cleveland team that had nothing to play for.

And THAT's another rub. Heinicke was battling and ending up on the losing end playing uber competitive teams like San Francisco while Cleveland was among the worst teams in the AFC and wasn't showing much fight.

Even a mediocre game by the quarterback wins that game. But Wentz was dreadful.

My beef isn't so much going with Wentz - Heinicke prior to that game was not the Heinicke of earlier in his DC stay - it was STICKING with him when it became clear early in the game that his head wasn't in the right place.

That's classic Ron Rivera. God forbid, he make a change that might reflect he had made a mistake. Ron doubles and triples down on mistakes he doesn't acknowledge them and do something aggressive about it.

Anyway - ugly, stinky cesspool water under the bridge.

I've never been a huge fan of Dyami Brown. The NFL graveyard is full of wide recievers with elite speed who couldn't actually play the position. If I never see Brown drop another deep or end zone pass that hits him right in the hands, it'll be too soon. I'm done with him.

Jamison Crowder has already passed Dyami Brown on the wide receiver depth chart IMO.

He has reliable hands and runs good short and intermediate routes with synch with the quicker passing game to protect Howell and get the ball out quick.

Brown is just another one of those draft picks like Jamin Davis that has all the measurables but never goes out onto the field and puts it all together.

Another reason I think WR and explosive RB should be on the list of draft 'needs'

Not a high pick, but I'd love to see us drafting elite speed playmakers later on in just about every draft. WR / RB / TE.... can't have enough weapons.

Agree 100%. The Chris Rodriguez and Dax Milne type players we draft late may make the roster and provide depth but their lack of overall athleticism and speed means there is almost no real upside.

Other clubs swing for the fences in the late rounds looking at guys Washington looks for in the first 5 rounds - players with size or injury issues that run a 4.3 or have freakish workout numbers or high productivity in a single college season, etc.

Reid pulls guys like Pacheco in Round 7 and he's next to Mahomes and Kelce as a potential Super Bowl MVP.

I wouldn’t put Rodriguez in that category, especially not with Milne.
