The other problem is there are certain plays that have more inherent risk than others. I am not saying you should never do those (not at all), but knowing when to call this/that, it's true situational playcalling that Kliff has been very poor at this year.

Actually last year he ALSO had more problems than many people remember, but JD scrambled for first downs and all was forgotten.

Kliff is not perfect but we have also had a lot of drops, missed throws, missed reads, blocking issues, and fumbles. Sometimes it's not a bad call. Just poor execution. I love Jayden but if he hits the bomb to Terry and doesn't have the intentional grounding then we score over 30 against NY.

Tonight the Deebo drop, the Ertz non first down, the Mariota bad decision to Terry, we might have way more points at the half.

You can't say that Jayden saved some of Kliffs calls by scrambling last year unless you are going to say the same about Maholmes saving Reid, Lamar and Allen scrambling, etc.

All I'm saying is that all in all, I will take Kliff running my offense over most guys. I think that he is one of the best offensive minds in the league, all things considered. We really need to be healthy for an extended period to judge him. Our franchise player has missed 3 and a half games out of 8. Our next best has missed basically 5 games if you count how much of the raiders game and this game McLaurin missed. We've even had a lot more than that
 
Glad i went to bed just after halftime.
That little voice in my head was telling me the second half was gonna go that way.
 
Yeah they hung tough for a half and kept it close when I thought it would be over in the 2nd quarter. Now that was the defensive effort promised. But the offense kept stalling at the 40 and you knew KC's offense would get clicking. . MM is a good backup but to expect him to win last night was completely unrealistic.

Wholly agree--he looks like a totally different player. He was one of my favorites last year, this year he looks lost.
 
Does anyone know if Quinn was asked why he didn’t challenge the spot on that Ertz catch on 4th down? The lineswoman clearly spotted the ball short of where it was. I kept waiting for Quinn to throw the flag when they did the measurement and marked it short. I know it’s KC and spots are tricky at arrowhead, but if he was truly 5 inches short by the virtual measurement, I’m certain he would have won the challenge on the spot of the ball.

My guess is that the "virtual measurment" counted as a challenge.

I thought Ertz made it. These refs kept shortchanging us. Any benefit of the doubt was either short or out of bounds even though replay kept showing otherwise.

My understanding is the virtual measurement is just to measure from the spot. Even on the broadcast, they were commenting that it’s only a measurement and the spotting is still being done by the refs. You should be able to challenge the spot of the ball like normal. But I think this is a valid question to ask if a challenge is allowed.

What perplexes me even more is how Quinn 2 weeks ago challenged for 1 yard to go from 2nd and 9 to 2nd and 10. Yet here was a critical play early in the game and he does not challenge.
 
I had assumed that you can’t challenge the virtual measurement. It’s the only explanation. If Quinn was capable of challenging the spot and didn’t, that’s criminal. It was a bad spot. So bad it felt like ESPN went out of their way to not show it, and only would show a bad angle.

I can’t find anything that says you can’t challenge the spot.
 
The replays I saw showed, I think pretty clearly, that Ertz attained the line to gain. If the spot is flawed a virtual measurement is useless. It makes no sense to me to be unable to challenge any spotting of the ball by humans.
 
Watching back on that non block sack of Mariota, that was definitely Cosmis fault. Idk what others are looking at but that was one hundred percent his man. That's why the camera showed the coach grilling him and not Connerly and why Sam was being so demonstrative
 
DQ just said that he doesn't have a medical update until tomorrow because guys are still getting MRIs but he did said that Jayden looked good in his workout on Sunday and they plan for him to practice tomorrow. If we get him and Terry back Sunday then I still say that we will beat Seattle and go on a run. I'm worried that Terry restrained himself again though

I rewound it after the punt since they went to commercial. Cosmi just slides left and blocks no one, while the guy who lined up in front of him has a clear path to the sack. Connerly gets a chip on his man from Deebo (I think) and is able to get in front of him. But at that point, the free rusher is already sacking Mariota while Cosmi is standing there still looking around. Troy broke it down after that as well and flat out said “I don’t know what Cosmi is doing on this play”.

Yeah this is why Kliff gets accolades- he has some of the characteristics you need.

Just- not all of them unless the circumstances are right. You need to be flexible to the situation (which he talks about) but if you can’t fully self critique, you will have problems.

There are also seemingly some disconnects between Kliff and his HC which is not a good thing. Recent quotes from DQ started talking about lot more about the need to run and stick with it when it is not working; recent quotes from Kliff say the opposite, talking about high efficiency running.

Whether you agree or disagree with either, it would be better to be on the same page or for DQ to not comment publicly if he differs.

As for that scrambling critique, I think the scale is very different. Almost 600 yards rushing by Jayden were attributed to scrambling. I think that number is quite high, and I remember situationally it saved far too many drives. Sure it will happen sometimes and it is a great safety valve, it is a feature for sure. If it happens too much, though, that is an issue.

The Eagles dumped a lot of assistant coaches before making the Super Bowl so dumping assistants and making strides is not unprecedented.
