Official Game Thread - Week 8 - MNF - Commanders @ Chiefs

Good news is Njoku and Andrews will hit FA. Can sign one of them

Both will be in their 30’s and have had serious injury issues, neither are as good as they were in the past. Better than what we’ve got for sure but not necessarily a solution.

Season comes down to Jayden and the McLaurin hip flexor. If he's out again, it's over. We need both to play this week or at least by Detroit for McLaurin. No chance without either to make the playoffs. We probably should've held Terry out until next week in a more winnable situation

Harris and his rebranding crew made a serious tactical error delaying the debut of the new throwback (future main) uniforms to midseason. Week 1 was the play, when vibes were high and more jerseys would inevitably sell. Now a ton of the fans we picked up last year will be more disengaged

Reid keeping the KC Starters in when that game was over was interesting decision.

Leaving the D in is a reward after that performance, a chance to hunt for sacks and turnovers against wounded prey.

Leaving the O in seems riskier, but they haven’t had all their pieces for a long time and now they do, so maybe a bit of practice rep mindset to finish what they started after a weak first half.

One thing I noticed in this game is that rushing Luvu at his size as a stand-up rusher against OL is absolutely pointless and I don’t understand why they don’t use him like they did last year as more of a true off ball LB who blitzes when called for. He’s invisible and easily handled by almost every OL we’ve played. He was better when he shot gaps and used his quickness to blitz. He has no hands, no bend, no counters, no power. He was a blitzer who could sometimes beat a slow OT on the edge when called for. Now he’s full time space filler who isn’t even filling the space

Edit: and it’s because Magee is now playing almost full time off ball and playing pretty well, but they refuse to bench Wagner ever even as a liability on passing downs, so instead Luvu is out of position and Wagner has guys picking his social security check out of his back pocket as they run through his zone

I wonder what it's like to have even SOME of your pieces...

4th and 1 when Mariota took that deep shot to Terry that had some miscommunication or other:

Not sure we'll get out of the parking lot of Arrowhead for another hour or two... What a gut punch of a second half.

This is gonna be a tough stretch of a season.

Yup. Fans always blame the coaches but sometimes guys just aren't executing. Mariota pre determined that play when he saw the blitz coming

Wagner is literally the number one thing on every offensive play callers game plan. They are hunting him. Coaches feel bad about taking legends out the game while at the same time they can't wait until they let him go in the offseason and play Magee with Luvu full time. You just have to have the courage to sit him in certain situations. He's a snail. It doesn't matter how smart you are if you are physically unable to react to what you are seeing

First of all, it's not clear that better preparation wouldn't fix those issues, and that is indeed coaching.
The other problem is there are certain plays that have more inherent risk than others. I am not saying you should never do those (not at all), but knowing when to call this/that, it's true situational playcalling that Kliff has been very poor at this year.

Actually last year he ALSO had more problems than many people remember, but JD scrambled for first downs and all was forgotten.
