Official Game Thread - Week 8 - MNF - Commanders @ Chiefs

Injury Report:


IRONY: If you go to the commanders website, and then click on "Team" and "Injury Report" all that shows up is the KC Chiefs injury report. This was also a problem with the last Monday Night game. The website people can't seem to get the website updated, but the social media people are able to tweet it out. Which is one of the very few oddly "Jason Wright" type of things which is still going on.
 
Great weekend so far. Chicago, SF, Minny, and Atlanta all loss so far. Maybe 11-6 will get you in
 
Going to need at least 30+ points to win this game. O line will have to have a huge game blocking run and pass. Got to eliminate offensive line penalties (very tough in that stadium) with ST also putting in a stellar effort. I don't expect the D to stop KC but they have to limit the head scratching chunk plays.
 
It's funny because we get Terry & Deebo back for a game where IMO, the running game is actually the more important element we need to be rocking & rolling tomorrow. Luckily Deebo Samuel is a part of that equation. Even healthy I don't think a track meet competition of points is the pathway to victory. It is going to basically be the Scott Turner vs Eagles strategy that got them a victory on MNF a few seasons back. Long sustained drives, keeping the ball away from Mahommes as much as possible.

It's not that their return means we need to go pass heavy, but just having a couple of legit NFL weapons out there will make them more hesitant to stack the box as D's have for the past 2 weeks. I'm not sure how close to 100% either Terry or Deebo are, but I'm more concerned about not having our starting QB in there. I don't think we have a great chance with Mariota under center.

He's still available. He's a couple years younger than Rodgers but at this point to call him a noodle arm might be a compliment.

Yeah the back up QB starting is the biggest concern (other than the defense) I was thinking we need Scott Turner offense vs the Eagles on MNF 2.0 in order to win. Long sustained clock-killing drives that keep the ball away from Mahommes as much as possible. Even if Mariotta has a respectable game tomorrow night, I am not counting on him being to run a marathon with Magic Mahommes, and assuming the defense is going to transform into something they haven't shown at all this season....ugh.
 
The SNF crew was previewing our game next week against the Seahawks and all they kept talking about was how much they want to see the Seahawks. Nothing about us. The NFL gave us all of these prime time games and windows this season and we just completely wet the bed.

The good thing is that we get to go back under the radar again, get our hunger back, and just start hunting. We will sneak back into the mix, soon

I get that it doesn’t mean anything in the short term and that some fans even prefer the “under the radar” 1pm life…but as a fan who finally got a taste of success last season it’s really fucking irritating that the moment the national media got on board the bandwagon, predicted good things, and the league gave us a bunch of prime time slots…we immediately shit in our diapers in embarrassing fashion and proved them wrong to believe in us.

Watching us is a punishment lately…again. We were almost universally seen as the most fun team to watch last year for an 8 week stretch or so, we earned respect. Other fanbases went out of their way to watch our games. I liked that life.

We’re going to have to work twice as hard for twice as long to get it back now, and after a lifetime of being laughed at, that’s really not enjoyable. I think that’s the real reason why fans’ minds are breaking so badly during this bad stretch. They tasted the good life and seemingly had it snatched away, and they need someone to blame. I can relate

What a great post and exactly how I feel. I thought we had arrived, we had the most exciting young player in the league. Fans wanted to see us play. And as you said this entire team shit the bed and it's the same old story in Washington. But like you I do believe better times are ahead.

Brother - this seems a little over the top. If Jayden doesn't fumble late against the Falcons, we are 4-3. Yes the defense has played some embarrassing games and the offense has been a shadow of last year's - but I don't think it's nearly as bad as this post paints it, especially given the injuries we have had to navigate already in 2025.
 
The combination of the injuries compared to last season and the much tougher schedule than a year ago are real (but not spectacular).

The canary in the coal mine might have been the reporting on how good the defense looked against the offense in training camp. What a poker player might call a tell.

Yea, don't get it twisted. That's why I said that we wet the bed. It sucks. We were so fun to watch. My point though is that I still feel like we aren't that far off and we have a shot to not only salvage the season but our prime time rep.

The Seahawks are one of the hottest, most exciting teams in the league. If Jayden comes back for that game and we pull off the win while finally fully healthy on offense, we can get people back on. We still have Detroit in the late window next week, Miami in Madrid, Denver on SNF, 3 against Philly, including one on a Saturday, Dallas on Christmas, a popular fanbase in the Giants. It's still there for the taking. We could start with a good showing tonight

That Seahawks game is going to be interesting. I am pretty sure McDonald wanted to come here but we didn't act fast enough or with enough conviction; the Seahawks did. I read enough quotes from him that pretty much said that to say, it's not conjecture. So, he will probably have a bit of that extra fire; that is human nature, no matter how much people say "we want to win every game."

I mean, I took some artistic license being overly passionate there to illustrate my point about why people are having such strong reactions to this slow start. They set the bar too high for themselves last year in what most would have expected to be a growing year, so perceptions are skewed as to where we “should be”.

And yet, despite the injuries and despite everything, I think most people thought we had at least arrived to a level of scrappy competitiveness that would prevent us from being embarrassed. Especially after another offseason of adding talent. Development and growth isn’t a straight line, yada yada, of course. Rationally, we know. Emotionally, it felt like we were done looking like unprepared fools who have no answers to what the opponent is doing for four straight quarters. We clearly aren’t past that. That’s a reality check for many.

The vibe with this team has been off since August, though. They don’t play with the same energy/chippiness that they relied on last year to steal games and stay in it till the final drive. That isn’t just injuries or lack of chemistry. They needed a wake up call, and they got it. We’ll see how the rest of the season plays out.

It’s easy for fans to say that they acknowledge that we looked ahead of schedule last year, and that this year would be tougher. People think they’re ready for that. But it’s another thing to be given the maximum number of national games after an NFCCG appearance and then actually experience absolute helplessness in some of those games. It’s a wake up call for fans as well
