Very very cool

Darrell Green helped us celebrate the opening of the Ashburn Little League baseball fields around 25 years ago. Great guy and one of my favorites all time. I can still see him running down Tony Dorsett and hurdling the Bears player on that punt return in the playoffs.

I’m all about celebrating DG’s accomplishments in the field, but based on the stories I’ve heard over the years, I’m not sure ‘great guy’ is the most accurate description for him. Ive just heard far too many tales of him being an absolute dick to fans over the years.

Maybe not the time for that convo, but is he a great Redskin? Absolutely. Great human being? Not so sure about that…

Yeah, I've heard mixed things on Darrel Green as a person too. Just from my experience, he's been a nice enough guy. When I was a student at George Mason University, he'd sometimes use our facilities to work out. Ran into him a couple of times - nice guy. And could out run everyone, shocker. LOL Many years later, he worked in the Athletic Dpt at GMU. I met him at random hoops games and alumni things - he was nice (but also, was "on the job"). So, you never know.

Also possible he has changed/softened. I’m sure he has become aware of that rep, so maybe he has addressed it. Regardless, a great player who deserves the accollades.

Yeah, I've heard the same. Ironically, his stringing me along as a reporter before finally snubbing me (I spent two months trying to pin down an interview date prior to his HOF induction for WAMU and was always put off.) led to all my experiences interviewing, reporting on, and eventually writing and doing voice work with the Jim Henson gang.

I've never held the snub against Darrell personally. Always figured it was more his gatekeepers than him, but it still remains the only story I failed to produce after getting it greenlit. Still, being told he was incredibly excited to do a story with me about his work with At-Risk kids and then putting me off and putting me off and putting me off when it came time to schedule the actual interview was really annoying at the time.

I remember an interview with DG years ago when he was asked about fan interaction and the media, etc.

I recall he said he enjoyed talking about and reliving shared experiences he had with fans of winning in Super Bowl, etc. but what turned him off was 'hero worship', people coming up to him and saying he was 'the greatest' and a player 'my kids grew up looking to as a real hero and role model', etc.

He thought parents should be their kids real heroes or people in the community like coaches and teachers that were helping people achieve something.

This was in the early 1990's when he was still an active player.

I wonder if we are going to keep Brian Robinson active but give McNichols a shot at running the ball if Daniels and the passing game are able to make inroads and put up some points early.

We need Robinson for the season. He played hurt against the Browns and then missed the Ravens game. If these guys can survive and win without him having to carry the ball a ton...........

You would think this a game that we could afford to rest BRob. McNichols has also looked pretty solid in spot duty.

Does that help Washington or Carolina?

Where is Jamin Davis re all of these injuries on the DL? He made the team but in the regular season he has been as quiet as Jordan Magee, who has spent the first series of games on injured reserve :devilish:

How many empty jerseys are we carrying on this team?

It's gotta be hurting now with the mounting injuries.

Time to take the cap hit on some of these guys and get them on the next bus out of town.
