Two disappointing defenses against two offenses that can put up points. Could be a real shootout

I usually expect to split with Dallas, and it’s hard to feel confident after losing to a trash teams like the Bears despite getting help from the refs, but something tells me we will win this one.

Dallas is a mess and this Commanders team has proven they have heart, so my gut says we bounce back next week. Beating Dallas to get back over .500 would sure improve the mood around here.

So I’m holding on to hope this week, but if we lose this one, then I’ll be pushing the panic button.

Honestly, a shootout is wishful thinking at this point. I know the offense is going to get back on track eventually, but I am just not sure it will be this week, not because of having anything to do with the Cowboys defense, just that I am more in a wait & see mode. I think each week we see glimpses of what this offense could potentially look like but there is no consistency about it. Every time it seems like there is progress with Terry, we seemingly get zero news on him until the middle of the week, which is usually that he isn't practicing, and then radio silence until the end of the week. I am not sure what the injury even is at this point but even if it isn't serious it seems to be nagging enough to where the only remedy is resting & more resting.

And now we have Treylon Burkes WR working out - doesn't look good for Terry or Noah getting back any time soon.....

With the amount of time both have missed, I question how productive they will be. Like the beginning of the year, they will need to get back up to speed and gather timing and trust back with JD.

Which means it's going to end in a 10-13 defensive struggle.

Why?

Because the football gods have a sense of humor.

No confidence in a shoot out, this year we are playing not to lose instead of to win,
Just as a point of reference, even at 3-3, we have the 3rd best point differential in the NFC at +32. I don't think we're playing not to lose. I think we've been wholly inconsistent.

FWIW, Dallas is -6.

The first two games we lost, we just got wholloped from the opening bell.

The Bears game, we really should have won regardless of everything else, we just blew it with one more mistake than we could overcome.

I like the highlighted statement, it's really true regardless of how poorly you may think the team played.

I'm kind of looking at it like this:

If we only win one of the next three games, we will not make the playoffs.
We win two of the next three, we will at least be in the running until the last week of the season.
We win the next three, we will make the playoffs.

Absolutely.

I promise you all i'm not coming from a stance of burgundy colored glasses, or Ashburn syndrome here. Anyone who's played competitive sports understands that shit happens. Last week's errors and issues will only carry over if they let it happen. The 'L' of last week has no actual effect on what should / could happen on Sunday. We are a better team than we saw last week, supporting data points would be 3 fumbles (2 lost), and an INT by a QB that a lot of us believe have the chops to be in MVP conversations. The INT alone, Jayden hits that throw 90% of the time. It was there, he just missed it. That's a TD a hell of a lot more often than it's an INT.

I PROMISE you, the players and team are not looking at the game film this week and judging their abilities against it. They're looking at it KNOWING that they're the ones that left that game on the field. They weren't beat, they lost. JCM is either going to move forward and learn from the last couple weeks, or he's not going to have a place in the NFL. We've all seen superior talent get washed out due to a lack of ball security. It cannot happen. They know that, and they're looking forward at how to address it... not looking back. Jayden is probably obsessing over that throw, and that fumble, and working on improving. This is a massive learning experience and potential launching point for these guys to truly step up. It would not shock me if they came out absolutely explosive against a really bad defense in Dallas.

This game is definitely a shootout on paper, but division games can be funny. Even when dallas played the giants, that game was only 17-16 heading into the 4th quarter before it got crazy. I still think it will be a shootout, but also wouldn’t be surprised if one or both of the offenses has some trouble getting on a roll this game.

Given the pattern so far this season we obviously win this one at a canter!
And then Mahomes and the Chiefs drop 666 points on us and he sets the single season passing record after game 7....
