Official Game Thread - Week 4 - Commanders @ Cowboys

Year 3 and no growth/improvement shown whatsoever.

I'm staring into my coffee cup this morning wondering why I still give a damn about a franchise that has tried every way imaginable to tell me(and all long time Redskins fans for that matter) to get lost......

I was squawking about the TD to Gallup as well but as Om pointed out, that was likely a broken play after none of the first reads were open and at that point it's just 'cover someone'. After thinking about it, I doubt that was what they drew up, it just happened that way. But beyond that, yeah, it's bad. Our players don't appear to know what we are doing, forget about executing the plan proficiently.

Exhibit A

I just watched that Gallup TD again and you may be right. It looks like it may be a zone and Holcomb is stuck on Gallup. Or it could be man and they switched off and he was left with Gallup. Holcomb was actually lined up covering Lamb at the start of the play. When Lamb broke outside, two DBs went with Lamb, not a bad decision. But that left Holcomb alone on Gallup when he initially went inside. The scramble happens and Gallup is able to run away from Holcomb. My point still remains that teams are still able to easily get their WR matched up against LBs who can’t cover them. Whatever the design of the defense was, Dallas got the matchup they wanted, the QB found the matchup, and ultimately got the TD. If that was the only time it happened, then maybe it’s not a big deal. But it seems to happen too often.

Yeah - our problem is, we don't have a CB who can cover ANY team's #1 WR, much less #2. I don't know why we seem to have LBs covering WRs so often? Of course, bitching about that, and then seeing what happens when our DBs do try to cover WRs on critical plays, well, I think the phrase 'pick your poison' might apply.
