Official Game Thread - Week 3 - Raiders @ Commanders

We’re beating bad teams sloppily, but handily. I’d rather improve throughout the season and be playing our best football heading into the playoffs than start hot and fade, not that those are the only two options. Some adversity and lessons learned early in the season is a good thing though, imo.
 
Wagner is on pace for 10-11 sacks. His career high is 6 sacks. He also has more tackles than the next 2 players combined, in his 14th season.

Imagine our defense if we didn't have that guy and just stayed with Jamin Davis or some other random LB, which RR seemed intent on doing.
 
Felt like today's gameplan on offense was don't call on Mariotta to do anything that isn't absolutely necessary and for most of the game that was sufficient. The running game carried the game and Mariotta made some opportune passes. The defense was pretty good, things got a little lacking once the game was out of hand but I assume they were in a prevent soft base for a drive or too to long which allowed the Raiders to make a 10 point game.

Concerns for me so far through 3 games is the O-line penalties. They are causing too many drives to end prematurely. It didn't factor into the final score today but it did keep the game way too close for way too long in the first half. If the Raiders were going to have any chance today it was going to be the way the game was going early, which wasn't really them doing anything right, just not making the mistakes and allowing the home team to play undisciplined.

Overall, happy with the win, but still see the problem areas that have a good chance to hurt their chances against better teams. It's still September football and if they take care of business against a pretty mediocre looking Falcons team, they finish the first month 3-1.

Will be curious to see Jayden Daniels's status during this week at practice, because I could see this same type of game plan against the Falcons w/Mariotta resulting in another win, but I also don't like the implications that JD5's injury is more severe....

could be that they just dont think its worth it to put him in if our chances are good with Mariota. what is mariota...3-0 or 4-0 with us so far? If the knee is still tender, let him watch again

I really like Bobby. Always respected him through his career, but now that I really watch him since he is a Commanding Skin, I really like him. Would have been a core Redskin under Gibbs.

This is where I am at. We can beat Atlanta with MM. I would rather be overly cautious in September than sorry in November.
 
If they keep saying their mantra is ball is life its going to start to sound silly, they weren’t hot at it last year and it’s carried to this year so far

Amos really should have had that pick. He had so many chances on that one play.

Definitely. I also have to add that Dorance Armstrong is on pace for 17 sacks, and his career high is 8.5. Armstrong's sacks are also coming at key points in the game. Hope both guys can keep it up.

I think we have a pick or a fumble recovery in the PAckers game but it was overturned by a penalty.
 
While I'm a little concerned about hte OLine penalties, I think we're seeing the results of having to face 3 pretty strong D Lines with the likes of PArsons and Crosby the last two weeks, while having rookies and sophmores on the line. I'm hopeful that as we face maybe some not so prevalent pass rushers, and as our line gels, we'll see those penalties come down.

There have been times when our secondary looks lost or blown, and that's a concern. But when our line dominates, and we're picking up all kinds of sack numbers, I figure it's got to at least be partly due to better coverage on the back. Just need to clean up the mistakes and plug that gap that teams exploit on the seam.
