Official Game Thread - Week 3 - Commanders @ Bengals - MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!!!

Hell of a game and a win.

The offense looked great. Daniels looked great. Credit to kingsberry for cutting out the Mickey Mouse plays and rolling out a legit offensive plan.

People are ripping the defense but I don’t get it. Don’t get me wrong - I saw the missed tackles and missed opportunities.

But they held the Burrow/Chase bengals to 13 points until 3 minutes left in rhe 3rd. Every team in the league would take that defensive effort every week.

They gave up a late 3rd quarter TD and a garbage time TD in the fourth. they did give up a legit TD in the fourth but the offense responded with another TD drive.

Obviously improvements can be made but I contend holding that offense to 13 through almost 3 whole quarters is solid and good enough to win every week.

Fantastic game. It was a 1:30 am game here, and I had work today so couldn’t stay up to watch, but I wish I had! 😭

The thing that stuns my is that this is after JUST 3 GAMES!

I’m sure that the other rookie shoe will drop at some point, but holy cow this is a hell off a start. I mean the ceiling for this team over the next few years looks crazy high if we can stock the talent cupboard at deficient spots!

But we’re 2-1 and leading the division with:

A rookie QB who is only now having the training wheel slowly removed.

A defense that has yet to figure it out.

A lack of a legitimate second WR (do we enter Tony Scott into that conversation now?)

Terry only just getting involved and on the page with JD5

Our best (former best?) player, Tress Way, has barely seen the field.

No interceptions?! In 3 games!! (It feels like I’m somewhere in the multiverse watching an alternate Commanders!)

A new coaching staff, who I’d wager are still figuring out things themselves!

Gotta' give a hat tip to the oline. JD5 was not overwhelmed with pressure all game, like Howell was last year. Hendrickson is a legit probowl level DE - he did not have a major impact on the game. He got one sack, and beat the rookie, Coleman (who played well overall), but that happens. Kudos to new coach Bobby Johnson, and the group, which has only played together for 3 games!

Daniels got Way's number, and as a further thank you - gave Way a couple of games off!

4th downs! Each were intense, but I felt unusually confident each time. Love it.

Compared to the swinging door at LT last year, Coleman looked like Trent Williams.

It's vitally important that players like Coleman and McCaffrey show out and continue to improve in 2024 because the defense is going to need to get that anchor in next year's draft at the top and some running mates as well.

Still looking for Sinnott to play a role in the passing game. Usually, TE is a position where guys with real talent get on the field pretty quickly in the NFL.

I wonder if the improbability took into account they only had 10 men on the field!

Btw....I still think Terry was interfered with on that TD. Dude was tackling him before the ball got there.

Troy brought up the 10 on 11 on that play and how perfect the throw and catch were. It was the play of the season that I have seen so far.

I don’t know how JD made that throw and I don’t know how the hell Terry hauled it in while finding a way to stay in bounds. Unbelievable.

Is it true they only had 10?

That’s supposed to be a penalty…

I've gone back and looked at the replay. There are 11 on the field. Not sure why Aikman said 10 unless one hopped on at the end.

Aikman was still talking like the Bengals were going to overcome a two score lead in under 2 minutes, lol… accept it Troy - Washington is winning this one :)

He squirms a bit when Washington does well.....

To be honest, so was I. If they somehow got the onsides kick, I think Cinci wins.

OTOH to be fair to Aikman, it's his job to not get viewers to change the channel. So, he better act like the Bengals are still in it.

You're traumatized :ROFLMAO:. Aikman is an analyst who knows how hard (almost impossible now with rules changes) to recover an onsides kick - and then have to drive the length of the field for a TD with a half minute to go. Is it possible for it to happen? Of course. But the likelihood was probably less than 5% they would do it at that point in the game. Not saying I wasn't nervous - for the same reason you were - traumatized.

Ed should be proud. His baby boy had some clutch catches last night. Really good to see him coming through when he was called upon.

Ok. I think I see. They had 10, realized it, 1 comes on late but has no idea what the play is and struggles to line up correctly in time.

It was either that or they changed packages and someone didn’t get off in time so someone couldn’t come on in time.

Either way 1 guy didn’t really know wtf was going on so I think that’s why later in the play he says they did it with 10 guys
