Newton didn't help in the run game, but he sure helped in the pass rush. Given we've had almost no pass rush all year, we certainly could have taken used a bit more of that.

Von Miller has had a sneaky good year. Especially if they take a dude like David Bailey in the first, i’d keep Von around in part as a mentor

Newton is reminding me of Ioannidis, who excelled at QB pressure from the DT position, but wasn't strong enough to be consistent against the run. Hopefully he will develop further.
Nice to see Sinnott get some targets. Hopefully he will get a couple more catches next week. Ertz is likely done, so either Sinnott steps up or we spend on another FA TE next year.

Fun game hat came down to the last 2 minutes. Wanted to win but ended up with the better result without being embarrassed.
Huge props to JJ. Other than that one head scratcher throw, did everything you could ask of a QB3 that is honestly not much younger than me.

Sainristil even rebounded after attempting to tackle a freight train and made a handful of plays
ultimately lost in a one possession game improving our draft pick... though i'll be 100% transparent and say that I still want to see my team win

I have no idea why posters were down on Jacory Croskery-Merrit. He always had this ability, he just couldn't find room as teams stacked the box.
Can we please stop with this nonsense that the poor pass defense is mostly due to the lack of a pass rush? Even the best defenses don't get pressure on every play, they still need to cover. The pass rush was good yesterday and Dallas still had wide open guys all over the field. We have seen this every week starting with Game 1. Just which game did the secondary play well in again?

I think the biggest thing with JCM was the fumbles, not his ability as a runner. He fumbled in back to back games (Chargers / Bears), and his running appeared to lean more toward the 'timid' side of things. He wasn't hitting holes as quickly and explosively, like he was thinking more about 'not fumbling' than he was about cut backs and open running lanes. He then got 'benched' and when he worked his way back, it appeared the spark was there... and against the Giants he fumbled again. Yesterday he once again looked like he did earlier in the year, hitting holes, anticipating cut backs, driving through tackles, and running angry. We all know its in there, its all going to be dependent on his ability to hold on to the football.
As far as the nonsense with the pass rush, I don't think anyone believes were setting our secondary up schematically to be the most successful. We have individuals that have made plays this year.. but I also think it can be mentioned how quickly a good pass rush can change the dynamics of the pass game... Dak had multiple errant throws yesterday after we had gotten to him... he was vacating the pocket to the right which largely hinders the ability to throw across to the other half of the field... He had a couple times where he was throwing worm burners and behind guys. It was effected... not neutralized, but effected, and Dak is an MVP candidate (yuck, it tastes terrible saying that).
Yes a schematic change on the back end looks like it needs to happen, but largely a lack of pass rush, especially off the Edge isn't doing the secondary any favors. Again, it's not just about the sacks, it's about moving Dak off his platform so he can't hit Turpin 40 yards down field.
Here's the big TD... A couple things I notice... there isn't a DT on the field. That's Jacob Martin next to Frankie Luvu on the interior... that's really weird to me
The ball is snapped at the :03 mark on the video... 4 seconds later, Dak launches it down field with absolutely zero pressure. If you've got a difference maker at Pass Rush on that play and you don't give up an 86 yard touchdown.... how much different are things instead of going down 21-3 you instead are getting the ball with 7:08-ish to go before half time, likely with good field position and down 14-3. Of course you could argue that the Secondary shouldn't have let Turpin behind them, they're not absolved, but plays like that show how much different a premium pass rush can effect all levels of the defense.

Seems to me there have been loads of complaints/comments about Whitt’s scheming/play calling (including Wagner covering backs and Sainristil in man coverage inside), Lattimore’s play, Sainristil’s play from the slot, the lack of quality play from our safeties, our backers sucking in coverage, etc.
So, while edge is rightfully seen as a code red situation, I think everyone recognizes that adding a quality corner to Amos/Sainristil is also a must, corner depth needs be addressed (Lattimore, Igbinoghene, Hamilton will be FAs), and improving our safety play would be great.
Now, some have said if everything else stayed the same, we’d improve just by upping our pass rush, but I personally don’t see anything wrong with that idea.

Oh I will never argue that a pass rush is not critical to a pass defense. But the way this team leave receivers wide open every quarter of every game they have played this season tells me this is the bigger issues. The other groups have had good games. That was a good game by the DL yesterday by most every measuring stick. But just which game did the secondary play well in?
Yeah they haven't really had more than short stretches here and there that looked 'better.' Statistically there have been some good games, but again there's nuance there.
Week 1 vs Giants - 46% Comp / 157 yds / 0 TDs
Week 5 vs Chargers - 76% Comp (high) / 181 yd / 1 td
Week 11 vs Dolphins - 70% Comp / 142 yd / 0 td
Again, they're not overwhelming, and there are other stretches like the first half vs KC that make you wonder. I still come back to us seeing stretches by individual PLAYERS to see that there is talent in the back end, and i actually think our secondary can be fine with... to your point... a schematic shift. Why we haven't seen it to this point does raise some questions imho because it's so glaringly an issue? I can't imagine Quinn is watching film seeing some of these gaps in zone, especially on drive stopping down and distances, and being happy with the result. I want to say there was a 3rd and 10ish yesterday and Lamb absolutely runs free on a corner route for about 18 yards and an easy conversion. Does think it's too late in the season to re-invent the scheme? Possible? Is the DB coach standing on the table for this type of alignment? Dunno. Maybe Quinn is looking at it like... why? What is there to gain in changing it now? Just wait til the off-season? I dunno.
It goes back to the point, are you confident we were setting him up to succeed and he was failing, or were we setting him up to fail with how we were using him? I still see a lot of Zone, so i wonder how much of a square peg / round hole situation we're actually talking about here.
I'm not going to be upset if we let him walk btw, i don't know that we need to actively look at signing him, but people don't actually just forget to play football as frequently as we've seen it in the past. Players come here and a lot of the time, appear to regress. I wonder if he could / would have been different under a bit of a different schematic ask.

Newton is going to remain a rotation piece IMO because of his size and inability to add weight to his frame due to prior medical issues in re his feet.
That's fine for the next 2 years as he is on a cheap deal but that DL is one of the most needy areas on this team - you have Kinlaw and Payne producing 1 or 2 sacks combined over 17 games and being paid some nice coin for mediocre or worse results. Eddie Goldman is 32 years old and has knee problems, now he's fine as a rotation piece on the DL but you don't want him out there for more than a certain number of snaps.
At DE I hope we don't fall into the same trap with Von Miller that we did with Bruce Smith, where the player stayed around for multiple seasons simply trying to break personal records and his effort and ability overall were in steep decline.
Peters may have helped draft Miller in Denver but we need to move on from him in 2026 and let him try and break more records somewhere else.
Already, I recall Miller mentioning returning to Washington in 2026 to settle 'unfinished business' but at 36 that's not in the team's best interests.
This roster needs to get radically younger and that means moving on from guys that have a great name but their game has deteriorated so that they are much less than they were in their primes.

That defense was jekyll and hyde yesterday. I don’t remember another performance like that. Total feast or famine.
They were either stuffing the run (<2 yards) half the time…. Or getting gashed for 9 yards.
But their backup ran for 100+.
They were playing some of the best pass defense I’ve ever seen (passes defensed cleanly)…. or letting guys wide open in zone for at least 20-yards. And 1 80-yard bomb.
They had 6 sacks!! Prescott threw for a 50% completion rate.
The defense only gave up 6 points in the 2nd half.
But they gave up 500 yards total offense.
Just dont know what to think.
