Official Game Thread - Week 10 - @ Seahawks

If I’m Harris & Co. I’m letting Rivera die by his own choices. The last thing I would want is a change that might possibly result in an upward trajectory that results in a better record but still misses the playoffs.

I can't bring myself to root for the team to lose. Another way of putting it, i'll never actually get upset if they win. I can also take a look from the bigger picture and understand how wins, in a seemingly lost season, can change the team long term. The difference between us picking 1st overall and 2nd overall in 2020 was a 2 pt conversion stop against the Dolphins that brought us to 1 - 5. We lose that game and we very likely have Joe Burrow as our starting QB right now. Does that mean I and upset we didnt lose? No, becuase I don't want the team to ever be 'ok' with losing.

Fast forward to yesterday. I think that loss, was about the best case scenario. The development and experience of Howell is what I'm prioritizing now, and a road game, hostile environment, he had a good game, and led us on a 2 min drive to tie the game. He's in the midst of pressure situations, and that's the only way to get exposed to what the NFL actually has to offer. I also look forward and see that we've now improved our draft position that much more. I also think this further continues to prove to Harris and Co. that Rivera and Del Rio aint it. Good football teams win that game yesterday, they don't allow the other team to score FGs on both 2 min drills of the game (half and end). Winning that game, while I think Rivera's fate is sealed already, would have been another thing for Rivera to run his mouth about, talking about a "road win against a contender" as some sort of justification.


Watching the game, I 100% was rooting for the win, i wanted to see the guys pull it out and the end of the game stung a bit... but thinking about the long term health of the team.... Not sure I can see a better out come.
 
There's no reason to root for the team to lose. With games against Dallas (2), SF, Miami on the schedule and this defense being ranked #30th in the NFL, Washington despite Howell and other factors is most likely to lose IMO 3 of those 4 games. The team will win one of them in true Ron fashion - probably the one where they are the biggest underdog on the points - and finish with 9 losses.

That puts us in the realm of getting a pick in the teens. If we don't need to draft a starting quarterback, which I think we don't, a good GM can find an OT, impact TE, edge rusher or true cover corner at #15 or #16, irrespective of the Rivera regime's whiffs on Forbes and Davis.

I think Boone said something similar on Sunday and I want to give him credit for that as well. I told my family the same thing Sunday night. This is the best possible outcome. Howell looked great. Robinson looked great. Terry is still Terry when he gets the ball. All the guys you want to be the centerpieces of the offense the next few years and even beyond with Sam and Terry. But ultimately they lost because this is what Ron’s teams do. It stops any playoff discussion, which they would have been one game out with a head to head tier breaker over the Seahawks. The talk would have been real and the talk about keeping Ron would have picked up as well. Instead, it further confirms what we all believe about the change happening with the coaches and even some of the players. Howell was great, especially when it was needed. And they improve their draft slot. I was rooting like crazy for the team and was mad right after the game. But after settling down, could there have been a better outcome long term than this? I don’t think so.
 
It is ridiculous and if Dyami doesn't catch it, that's an INT.
