Official Game Thread - Week 10 - Lions @ Commanders

Im expecting a whole lot of run plays in conjunction with a whole lot of punts.

I predict after the game, Whitt moves from the sidelines to the unemployment line.

I wouldn't mind it, but I don't see Quinn letting any coaches go mid season...unless he gets a whisper in his ear from AP, and I honestly don't see that happening either.

Quinn brought in all the defensive coaches. Whitt needs to go but Quinn isn't going to do that to him in mid-season and embarrass him.

I really am surprised that Quinn has not been able to lobby Peters and then work with him to establish the parameters of a solid defense.

Getting a quarterback up to speed in the NFL and acquiring an OL and WRs that he works well with and execute a given system seems much harder to effect.

But we didn't have the makings of a defense in 2024 and are back in almost the same boat this year.

The difference is the offense isn't scoring 30 or 34 points.

Not that it matters at this point but Quinn can formally take over playcalling duties. The Eagles are another organization that doesn't really fire coaches midseason. However, when Desai was ass in 2023, they kept him around but elevated Patricia to playcaller.

Seattle is better than Detroit, we are due for a good game, and the team is motivated after the positive Jayden news. We can win
something dawn GIF

I might agree if our defense was even within the top 31.

Let's pivot....

Washington wins IF......

Please keep the snark to a minimum, what actually needs to happen realistically for us to pull off the upset this weekend?

Number one, win the turnover battle. That’s what we did the last time we played them, got 4 interceptions and recovered a fumble.

I'll try to pivot - but truth is - I think this game is unwinnable given the state of our WR corps and the ineptitude of the defense.

What would help though on offense is to get the RBs involved in the passing game. Although none of our current guys are known for pass catching, our OL is not able to overcome the box stacking they are experiencing. The obvious way to beat that is not to continue running guys straight ahead into a wall (not even with CRod). Get the RBs going on short passing routes across the 2nd level where they can use their abilities in space. That and incorporate a lot of screens and sweeps - anything that doesn't require the RB to break tackles or hit non-existent holes in front of them. We attack with our RBs like that, we can have some success and that could open up the passing game.

In a fairly snark free manor:
Generally they must play a penalty, turnover and mistake free game while Detroit does the opposite.
Defensively they also can't miss tackles, need to apply regular pressure and limit the run game
Offensively they need to be able to control he game with the run game and get a few longer pass plays to loosen he D
Teams they need to have good returns, probably at least one big one and limit their return yardage.

Oh and score more than them

It’s awful.

I wasn’t making plans for the Super Bowl this offseason. I recognized the tougher schedule, didn’t love our offseason, etc. I was prepared to be fighting for our lives to get a wild card.

But this, this is a new kind of pain. For the last two months of the season to mean nothing, other than draft position- is the stuff nightmares are made of.
Hey I used to be a huge Jets fan, you'll get no sympathy from me.

Making him coach out the rest of the season might be more embarrassing!
