I need to rewatch the game - it is not always easy to see everything going on when you are in the stadium (unless you are watching the overhead view on the Jumbotron). What did you see with Barton?

I’m waiting not so patiently for the fines to be announced for at least two plays. If what happened to Howell had happened to a star quarterback there would probably be suspensions handed out.

It seemed to be a point of emphasis from Arizona.
There better be a fine for that out of bounds head shot. I thought that met the definition of an ejection, but NY must have been busy with other games.

He was consistently being pushed out of the way on running plays. He doesn’t have much of a knack for avoiding blocks from interior lineman.

There was also the play where the defensive lineman held Howell’s head with both feet while he was down and slammed it to the ground. It seemed to me that Arizona’s behavior was intentionally intended to cause harm, like a bounty was put out.

When talking about Howell’s performance this week I’d throw in another quick caveat.

As someone mentioned above, Week 1 is notoriously squiffy. Odd things happen in week 1. But the Washington week 1 was unlike so many others.

In a lot of ways (and it sounds crazy to say it!) but this was a MUST WIN.

Not just because it was against the Cards, and we were favoured, but because it was the first regular season home game of the post Dan Snyder era. The fans turned out. The alumni turned out. There was a palpable buzz in the air. To lose this game in front of a sell out crowd AND under the eyes of the likes of Riggins and co was unthinkable.

I’d imagine there was A LOT of self-inflicted pressure for that game. I’m interested to see what happens this week now that pressure is off.

I have talked about this a lot and I agree Knight. I think they came out a bit 'tight' - and I don't think that was limited to the players.

I certainly think Howell looked tight early on.
I think the coaches were feeling it too.
Now that monkey is off their backs, I'm hoping we see them settle down.

I rewatched the game last night, and I have to say my assessment of the team's performance was much higher after a close viewing than it was leaving the stadium. There was a lot to like in that game. And Howell, minus a couple of errant throws, had some very good moments.

I think we’re just going to have to accept that Howell is going to have some teething troubles. He’s only 2 games into his pro career and I’m pleasantly pleased by his upside.
I thought his poise was excellent, especially after that first big hit that sent him into the tent! That could have really rattled him big time.
Then his response after the fumble.
I’m looking forward (already) to what he could do next year after a season of starts under his belt. That sidearm throw to Robinson was a thing of beauty!

For a league that supposedly takes player safety seriously…he should have received a suspension.

Especially after he said in his post game comments that the plan was to hit him hard cause he was a little guy.

Makes me think that hit was late, way out of bounds, and intentional. Wouldn’t surprise me if he was trying to hurt Howell.
