Official Game Thread - Preseason Week 2 - Commander @ Lions

Need to add at least two quality offensive lineman to this team via trade or cut downs, and I honestly don’t care what position they play. If they have a chance of beating out a starter, you need to acquire them. Worst case, they would be better than the backups we currently have.

Yes, interior of the line got absolutely blown up. Are any of these guys any good?

This is the only info I can find on Ryan Bates:

Josh Taylor, is just a fan, but as I mentioned for a dude who went to 11 practices its hard not to catch things. The 2 O lineman he highlighted that looked good in camp, are the same ones ironically Quinn hits on here.

My thoughts: Glad I didn't get out of bed at 8:45am on a Saturday to watch this turd of a game.

Did Styles do anything of note? D got roasted on a basic read option play I see. How many starters played on D?

Lastly, I really hate how little the starting offense is going to play in the preseason. I think it's foolish to think they're going to come out against a really good Eagles team and rip right out the gate, especially with the O-line issues. Burrow played multiple series in the first pre-season game, and this coaching staff apparently thinks 3 plays in total will be good enough for Daniels. I hope Quinn is right with this approach, because if we get smoked right out the gate we should all hold his feet to the fire.

Well, the silver lining (if it's not too late) is at least they're no longer in denial.

Agree. When I said the WRs sucked from what we hard, I saw a little of it myself, in camp and that extended to the preseason and Peters let it ride. But I don't think he will repeat the same mistake at O line this summer -- that wasn't sarcasm, I meant it.

I am not as high as some are on Peters work so far. But what am high on about him is he strikes me a dude who learns from his mistakes and plenty of GMs incuding Roseman improved over time.

If you can't protect the QB, you have to trade him before he's out again for the season.

Either bring in better linemen, or get him out out of here.

An injured QB helps no one. Not us, not his career.

We may need to search for a haul like Dallas got last season.

No big plays but I did see him drop in coverage and take away a read (QB looked off that one) and then another where the QB tried to squeeze it into a tight spot but the WR did not want to go to full extension for the catch in the middle of that mess. Chenal might have walloped him.

Seems like his coverage roles will be what were hoped and what Brian Urlacher did. Ability to drop into deeper zones like Tampa 2 MLB type of stuff as well as drop off the LoS and take away a slot/TE going on a seam.

The starting defense opened up the game with a Nickel Blitz that resulted in a sack fumble as the QB held it a bit too long. Sonny Styles skillset is one of things that can make the QBs hold it too long too.

So I'm very excited for the defense as the season opens.

P.S. I don't think any of the starting DL played.

For the record, football analytics have long showed that Week 1 outcomes and quality of win/loss has no bearing on how teams play in weeks 2-18. All it does is effect the total regular season record. This has been true even when preseason went 4 games and starters often played a full quarter in the 3rd preseason game.

You generally know what a team is like and will be after Week 4 of the regular season. There are obviously exceptions to this, but we're talking about averages here.

Well, based on tonight we are going to have a better chance than I thought at this guy

Checks calendar….

Yeah. I’m going to let them play at least a drive in a regular season game before declaring what draft position we’re going to be in.

You think our defense is going to be that bad huh?
Oh no, I have good expectations for the D.

I also see a healthy Allegretti in the middle being able to bring some consistency to the OL. If that occurs or Gublin or a guy not yet on our roster can do that, our O has a real chance.

My comment was only - based on the way they looked last night we'd have a shot at a high pick.
