That’s a good post in a vacuum, and I agree there’s some nuance to it. But it wasn’t just Ekeler on 3rd and medium seeing better efficiency than Robinson. It was every single RB on the roster and the results weren’t close. CRod played in expected run situations often because he’s not much of a receiving threat and he was markedly more efficient than BRob. And I’m not talking about YPC which is a descriptive stat, not a predictive one. Horrible RB stat that we’re stuck with due to its prominence pre-2000’s before stats nerds really dug into the game. I’m talking about advanced analytics which do a better job of isolating the runner.

Robinson faced 8 men in the box at a rate that was 41st in the league. Meaning his job wasn’t that hard most of the time, at least not in any special way. Yet he was 22nd or something in efficiency in those situations. Numbers can be made to say a lot of things but I (and many others who deep dive tape way more than me) have been watching him miss cutback lanes for years, has nothing to do with how the D is playing on his downs when the holes are there and he’s not taking them.

We haven’t had a RB with creativity and vision for a very long time. AP had the vision but was very straight line at the age we got him, and it was short-lived. The Matt Jones-Rob Kelley-Antonio Gibson-Brian Robinson pipeline of RB’s with poor vision is just atrocious and really skews the way people see our running game in the past decade imo

Maybe if KK used BRob in the passing game last year, defenses would have defended him more like Ekeler

That aside, all 3 backs looked more explosive than BRob last year. After a long hiatus of no TDs and lack luster games, when he finally scored, I have never seen a head coach so excited for a lead back scoring a run of the mill TD. It may be more than just not seeing holes. I think its obvious his confidence was shot last year. He missed his weekly call in to 1067. He was off last year and maybe Peters is seeing the same thing this year.

Bienimey used him in the passing game and he showed flashes of being a 3 down back but it was back to plodding duties last year.

One of the beat writers posted earlier that the end zones and sidelines (and imagine mid field though it wasn’t specifically mentioned) is not final and will look much better for the season

Great thanks, I was surprised how faded they looked.
 
At least we know the people who schedule commercials are in regular season form already.

He’s made a great little career for himself as a 3rd down pass blocking/catching specialist which is cool

Chase Brown is better now but Perine had that role for a while
 
Hope they get that out of their system because that was ugly.
 
Don’t even think the Bengals really wanted to snap that 4th and 3, dump jump
