Official Game Thread - Preseason Week 1 - Dolphins @ Commanders

Oof 24-yard completion on 3rd-and-16, we’ve seen that a lot in recent years. And less recent years.

That's what happens when the opposing QB gets 15 seconds in the pocket.

God was that a Terrace Marshall sighting? What a bust

Im firmly on the Drew Stevens band wagon

I agree. Even if they “tie” in the camp battle somehow, I wouldn’t use Moody’s pedigree as a tiebreaker (which I think a lot of people default to). Because I think it’s actually a detriment. Kicker is a mental position. I think the pressure of being such a high draft pick (for a kicker) hurt him, he mentally folded and got cut but the team that should’ve believed in him most. Now it’s like a reminder of what a bust he is. Stevens is fresh meat with no pedigree, maybe a chip on his shoulder or at least not a monkey on his back. He can build his confidence as a pro from the ground up if he’s got the talent…Moody has to escape the hole he’s in first to even build above ground, and slay his demons. I don’t like that

lol. Not worth giving your rookie QB a redzone attempt? Not worth another live FG kick for the competition? Are reps important or not?

What the fuck is up with this staff, man

theyre all millionaires and want to go home

The elephant in the room right now is the Mariota right knee injury, Quinn said post-game that he'll have more info 'in the coming days.' That doesn't sound good.

Bro... if he tore his ACL on a handoff... WTF, the ghost of Snyder has cursed that dump of a stadium.

That would be really bad news.

Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

It sounds like maybe he hurt it the play before when the linebacker hit him right there, tried to stay in.

I guess one thing that gives me hope it's not ACL is, his right leg was up, not planted when the LB hit him, so maybe 'just' bone bruise or some less serious strain/sprain? The handoff play just looks so innocuous, no hard planting/twisting, but he did stumble and come up limping, then stop and call the trainers out while walking toward the sideline. Not sure what's up.

Thoughts after the first drive.

Hartman actually looked better than I thought he would as did the Greek.
Henry showed something.
Gulbin must've done his job fine. No errant snaps. Didn't notice anyone bulldoze him.
The second and third string D was fine though some of that was their QBs after Malik spraying the ball. Got a lot less pressure than I expected. Coverage was pretty good in Quarters 2 & 3.
Yankoff did well.
Hamilton Sr. flashed a few times on special teams and during the game. He did last year, too.
Quan got a pick off a bad throw.
Lane caught the damn ball.
Thought Stephens outkicked Moody. Moody hitting the crossbar on such a short field goal I count as a negative even though he lucked out.
Can't argue that the interior of the o-line looks bad on running plays.
Allen was fine in short yardage, but I thought he didn't show much otherwise.
Would have liked to see a little more from Williams. I didn't really see him pop open like everyone keeps talking about. Was victimized by some tough throws.

I thought both young RBs looked good, but not sure Miami is a measuring stick we want to use to gauge anyone's future promise. I don't think Hartman looked good. He missed wide open receivers frequently, threw into double coverage a lot, and had balls sail on him. He's not got an NFL arm and it shows every time he plays. There were a lot of high snaps from center in this game. I don't know if it's because Hartman is only 6' tall or what. In addition to not seeing much from Williams (yet), I didn't really notice Sonny Styles. I would have expected to be more impressed but wasn't.

I also thought our 7th round QB Athan Kaliakmanis looked pretty good. He throws with zip and accuracy, in sharp contrast to Hartman, and also appeared comfortable running the offense. I would love to see more of him the rest of the preseason way. I think it's possible we lose Mariota as that looked like it could be a significant knee injury. The Mariota injury is the biggest story of this one unfortunately. In the NFL, you want a backup that gives you a chance to win if your starter goes out. Mariota is the only guy currently on the roster you can say that about.

It is the preseason, and sometimes what you see means something and sometimes it doesn't.

-Hartman stunk
-Henry has some of the best vision as a runner on the entire roster.
-Allen is a short yardage monster
-Hartman stunk
-Letting our twos get abused on the first drive was a weird choice
-we need to see our starter reps ramp over the next two games and into the season
-Styles looked tired and a bit nervous. That should calm.
-Allan K looked solid
-Hartman stunk
-Harris interviews are awful
-Not much to really take away from this one.

Better pre season opener than last year's beat down from the Pats. My recap: Stevens, Greek Freak, and Henry Jr. are all worth mentioning. Turned it off after the 3rd. #HAIL
