This may seem overly simplified, but I think a steady diet of what we did at Philly last year might be our path to success. There were 44 carries between BRJ, Gibson, and Samuel in our 32-21 win last year. Keep the ball out of the hands of the Philly offense and put yourself in third and very manageable might be the direction against a strong defensive front in Philly. After what Buffalo did to us, I am not sure you can wait for long developing plays to materialize. We don't have the horses on this OL to hang with the Eagles and out-physical them.

Philadelphia has forgotten about their embarrassing loss at home to Washington last year, right?

Right?

Man...Philly going in on Georgia defenders the way we have gone on 'Bama defenders. This reads like a clash of SEC powers.

Couple of game quick-thoughts:

The biggest key to this one, in my view, will be how our OL fares against with Philly's DL. We match up at okay with them in all the other position groups,. But Philly's DL is several notches above our OL. It's dynamic and deep; our OL is ... less so. I'll be watching that closely over our first couple offensive series. If Philly is able to disrupt the run and pressure the pass with just their down four--or five, if they come out serious about stopping the run and forcing Sam to beat them--our offense is going to have a tough day.

Also interested in how JDR approaches this one early. Does he lean more toward containment of Jalen Hurts, asking our DL to focus on "keeping him in the pocket" like he did against Buffalo, or does he go full Gregg Williams and send the DL stunting and attacking, bringing extra rushers, etc.? Arguments can be made for either approach. I find myself hoping for the latter, but expecting the former.

On Del Rio… listening to his presser yesterday, I got (as I usually do from him) a distinct ‘what we do works’ vibe. He doesn’t like being questioned and he usually responds as if all of the media questions are dumb.

I really didn’t hear any explanation or even perspective from him on why our supposedly top tier pass rush could not get any significant pressure on Josh Allen. He talks a lot about how long this group has been together and how this is the one it should all be coming together, and yet we continue to see games where the D simply doesn’t show up.

JDR is an ass. He's our ass, but still.

And yeah, at this point I suspect he'll be another former Washington coach next year.

My game prediction-

Washington will double last weeks offensive point output and the defense will be better. Philadelphia has had this game circled since the schedules were released. Their defense, particularly the DL, is what Washington fans hoped theirs would be. I pray that Sam Howell survives and can make it to the Chicago game.

Philadelphia 30 Washington 6

Please tell me why I’m wrong and feel free to pile on if I ultimately am.

You're not wrong to believe that's what will happen, but I'll offer a tepid alternative mindset:

1. It's an NFC East game, so anything can happen.
2. We've split the past 6 games with the Eagles.
3. The Eagles may be motivated because we won the last game. But I think Washington was embarrased last Sunday and will be equally motivated.
4. The Eagles looked very vulnerable against the Bucs despite winning. If Baker Mayfield and the Bucs offense doesn't totally crap the bed, that one comes down to the wire.
5. Sam Howell will play better (because playing worse is not possible).
6. It's an NFC East game, so anything can happen.

I think a win is a big ask. And you are right, our OL vs. their DL is scary to think about, but there are ways to mitigate a mismatch if the coaches are smart enough to do those things. You're likely right to expect a drubbing, but one never knows.

I won’t argue a single thing and I hope you’re right. 🤞

I’m preparing for this to be kind of ugly. I also believe Philly will be looking to embarrass them after last years win. I was expecting 2-2 after the first four games, so a loss won’t bother me. But I do want to see them put up a fight.

The defense holding Buffalo to 16 through 3 quarters should have been a positive, but the wheels eventually fell off. Even though I scratched my head at some of the game plan last week, I want to see the fight the defense showed against a good offense and getting no help from their own offense. Again, I want to see them fight regardless of the outcome.

On offense, I just want to see efficiency. I want to see ball control with balance. The way the OLine is pass blocking, running more will help. Quick passes will help too, but they can’t be telegraphed. Buffalo knew what was coming and took it away. Howell got flustered, the OLine collapsed, and Howell was crushed. It was a recipe for disaster. I want to see that improved. I want to see Howell make smarter decisions too.

Regardless of the outcome, I just want to see them play better. I know Philly is a more talented team. But as we have seen for years, it’s not all about talent, it’s about execution. That is what I am looking for.

Not about being right because I have no idea what will happen (although the odds obviously favor the Eagles). I'm just talking recent history of the rivalry.

Boy I really Forbes’d that prediction.

What a gutty effort from Howell and the offense.

Inexcusable.

As I said in chat, I thought McClaurin’s toe(s) was out of bounds from the looks I got.

Offense scored 31 points in Philadelphia. I know that anything we produced offensively on the last drive was largely all shouldered by Howell, but I kind of thought EB and the offense earned the right to go for two at the end. Philly's D was reeling, having just been scored on. I didn't envision a scenario where they were going to let us march down the field in OT again. Just the way I saw it...

Ron didn't riverboat when he needed to. Another case of him just seemingly having lost a feel for the game.
