I think I'm with
Boone, there isn't a game in recent memory I've wanted to win more. I was only 6 when the 'Skins played the Cowboys in the 1982 (played in 1983) NFC Championship Game. And I don't think I actually watched the game, my introduction to football was the following week (or 2 weeks) when my parents took me to a SB party, and one of my parents friends explained the game as we watched the SB. My parents are both immigrants, and football made no sense to them, so they never watched.
By the time 1986 rolled around, and I was 10, I was a full fledged, huge Redskins fan, and losing to the stinking Parcells Giants in the NFC Championship game, and getting shut out, was crushing. I "got it" by then. Also, in my formative years as a fan, it wasn't the Cowboys who were in the way. It was the damn Giants. If you wanted to win the NFC East that 1982 NFC Championship game, you had to beat the Giants. Between 1982 and 1991, the Eagles and Cowboys both won the division once. The rest were the Giants and Redskins.
Which is why I never quite "got" the whole Cowboys rivalry, until a little later. The Giants were always the biggest rival when I was growing up.
Fast forward to today: not only is it an NFC Championship game, but it's the stinking Eagles. Who have been the most consistent team in the division since 2000. And have the most obnoxious fan base. Some would say the Cowboys. I'd counter the Eagles fans are more arrogant and obnoxious. The Cowboy fans are more delusional.
So yeah, I think this is probably the game I want to win more than any other, definitely in recent memory.
Also add this: In the "Glory Days" Redskins, you kindof knew the team WAS going to win. They weren't losing to the Falcons, Lions or Bills in 1991. There was excitement, but it was kidnof more of a coronation than it was anything else. And for all the teams that made the playoffs after that, there was always a feeling like, "yay, we got in, let's see what happens" If we lose, eh, we lose. We have Dan, we have Vinny/Bruce, expectations are low, so it's tough to get THAT emotionally engaged.
1999 - This was probably the team which had the best chance to "do" anything in the playoffs, but Norv was the coach, and everybody knew that was limiting.
2005 - The team needed a 5 game win streak to make the playoffs, and Brunnell was hurt.
2007 - The team needed a 4 game win streak to make the playoffs, and Todd Collins is, well, Todd Collins.
2012 - This one was exciting. But there was the Dan factor, and the fact Griffin was at least somewhat limited. It did feel, at the beginning of the game, as though they would be back. Maybe not so much at the end of the game.
2015 - We were playing Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay with Kirk. I picked against us to win that game the entire week because I had no faith in Kirk being clutch. I hadn't completely turned on Jay yet, though.
2020 - They made the playoffs with a losing record and played Brady.
This year is different. They have a legitimately good team. They're playing a division rival. A Super Bowl trip is on the line. Damn, I want to win this game.
HOWEVER, the Eagles are really good. If we don't win, CLEARLY I'll be disappointed, but this will still have been a magical season. And, in theory, with the pieces they have in place, they should be able to put themselves in position to make deep playoff runs more than once every 33 years.
EDIT to add:
In 2020, we had a losing record, we were playing Brady, AND we had [REDACTED] playing QB because we had cut Haskins and Alex Smith was hurt. Even thought [REDACTED] played a good game, he hadn't started a game that season (I don't think), and there was certainly no reason for confidence going up against Brady and the Bucs.
