Official Game Thread - NFC CHAMPIONSHIP - Commanders @ Eagles

The Eagles have us beat literally everywhere except QB. Yet I'm almost expecting to win.

Let's see what happens.

I am focused on the impact of having JA and AE and a helluva lot more confident Brob and D Brown.

And how much Kliff had marked as "What I should of done" in his notes after the game.

I'm sorry, who is AE?

The loss of Cosmi is definitely going to hurt, as long as we are talking about guys we got back.

Kliff's postseason playcalling has been impressive. He is keeping defenses on their toes. If that continues, our chances improve dramatically. The Eagles seemed to know when running plays were coming a good deal in our last game. Postseason Kliff has been bringing his A-game. His stock is definitely rising, HC opportunity wise.

AE = Ekeler

Austin Ekeler. He did not play the 2nd game. Cosmi IS a big loss. Our gameplan will reflect that for sure.

Zone defenses lean towards good run defenses. Your keys pull you in the right direction more than not. Gives the impression of 'they are all over us'. What we couldn't do in the 2nd game that we did better at in the first was our 2 back sets. Being able to pull LBs and put them in conflict to open holes or create better paths for our run game. Lots of moving parts obviously, but AE is an absolute attention getter in the open field so he will trigger movement at the 2nd level.

This is going to be so much fun to watch.

What I saw on the TV broadcast occasionally was the Eagles DL tapping each other on running plays and yes, it looked like they zeroed in on the RB even though the fake potential was theoretically there. It was disturbing to me. Yes, the 2-back sets... that's definitely true (to my admittedly more naive eyes!). In terms of "run creativity" that was a huge difference maker, but I wished Kliff/Lynn would have figured something out even if Ekeler was out. I get that the Ekeler skillset is irreplaceable on this team (and many others) but I think a little more devotion to the run game may have helped us weather him being missing.

Regardless, I loved what I have seen these last two games overall, especially in terms of coaching. Tough teams were beaten.

We will be down Cosmi, but up Eckler from last meeting… they will be down Mitchell and Dean, and likely will have a gimpy Hurts. If Hurts is a gimpy as that injury looked, then we need to play it like we did the 2nd half if the last game, and focus on stopping Barkley and making JH beat us with his arm.

I can see this being a replay of Detroit where it’s a one score game in the 4th again. I like our chances!

I can't believe I couldn't think of Austin Ekeler. He is huge for us. We don't have a lot of other weapons that we can throw or hand a ball to, and have them make an explosive play just by nature of their physical skill. It's him and Daniels. Which I guess is a way of saying, that most of the players on our team get the yards that are there and aren't huge YAC guys, or threats to break one. That's part of what is so exciting about Jayden. He's been super successful with that kind of supporting cast.

I actually feel more excited and hopeful about this game than the one against the Lions. We have now beaten the Eagles, Falcons, Bucs, and Lions in 4 of our last 5 games. We are beating good teams. We played the Eagles close in our loss, with a giant hole at CB, without Ekeler, and when JD5 was still playing hurt. I think there is a significant chance that we beat them in a game that isn't close. I think if we can limit their explosives, we win.

If Hurts truly goes into the game gimpy - they either won't try the tush-push (they didn't after he got hurt vs LA), or they will have someone else do it, but that player will not be used to it, especially in high pressure situations.

That was well deserved pressure on a deserving shit organization.

We will also be up Jonathan Allen and have a non-rusty Lattimore (remember Philly 2 was his second game back from injury and he couldn't finish because he re-aggravated it).

Philly will have a less mobile Hurts over Pickett, still no Nakobe Dean.

I like our chances.

Also waiting on on the injury report for Quinton Mitchell. Presumably, C.J Gardner-Johnson won’t be kicked out of the game early though. Their safety play will probably be better than last time.

We will be underdogs and we deserve to be, but we have better than a puncher's chance. The one thing that is really good for the team's psyche is they know they can beat the Eagles not just because they beat them before, but also because they beat the Bucs and the Lions. The stigma of never having beaten anyone is gone. Now, they should honestly blieve they can compete with everyone. That's a big change. In so many recent years, I felt like Rivera, Shanny, and Gruden threw in the towel before game started. They played scared because they expected to lose and so were so tight the moment the first mistake happened the team just folded.

This team has overcome mistakes. They have overcome the refs screwing us on multiple phantom calls. They have overcome ridiculous, impossible plays from the other team.

Yeah this is kind of feeling like the 82 team facing Dallas in the NFCCG. We're hot but people still think Philly wins, just like with Dallas.

Too bad it's being played in Philly. But it shouldn't matter. Our team is together, theirs isn't at all
