Official Game Thread - NFC CHAMPIONSHIP - Commanders @ Eagles

Jalen and Mitchell practiced yesterday - limited. They are in.

However, Goedert (ankle) and their center Jurgens (back) missed practice. Guess who their back up is? Nick "Swinging Door" Gates.

Shooting A gaps high pressure stunts blitzing... bring it Whitt. Lets test out that wonky knee of Jalen's. They are hurting up the middle and I smell green blood.
IF Philly has to drop off from Jurgens to freaking Nick Gates?? That is the stars aligning. Not counting on it, but that would be huge, especially with Allen coming of his best game in a long time.

If Goedert can't go, or is slowed down, that's also huge. Goedert is their leading receiver thru these 2 postseason games and has 1 of the 2 receiving TDs they have.

He's also likely a huge part of the game plan if Hurts is at all limited.

Philly O is so deadly bc you need to simultaneously stop Saquon, contain Hurts, pressure Hurts, and cover downfield. You can do 2 of those consistently, maybe 3, but good luck on all 4. If Hurts is limited in mobility, then containing Hurts is easier and pressuring him is also easier. Hurts holds onto the ball a little too long and takes sacks he shouldn't but that's only when he throws and doesn't escape, but if he can't escape....

The answer to that is to speed up the throw game clock. Slants and quick crossers, dump offs, but if Goedert is out that's a really major target for that they won't have.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but this scares me a lot.

“As @Orandy587 correctly pointed out, commanders are so screwed with Hochuli as their ref. Both bills and dolphins fans know Hochuli is a massive Eagles fan,” one fan quipped.

"After the league revealed its officiating crews, several folks on X/Twitter noted that the Eagles are 6-0 in games called by Hochuli since Nick Sirianni became their head coach in 2021."

"Also of note, Hochuli’s crew mysteriously failed to stop the clock at the end of the Commanders’ Week 15 road game against the New Orleans Saints. The miscue allowed New Orleans to run another play and get a touchdown, though they missed the game-winning two-point conversion: He stopped the clock for 4 seconds when it should’ve been running, giving NOLA a chance to win."

"Wash. has a losing record with Hochuli refereeing. pic.twitter.com/mhkIAlOAnl https://t.co/4RMPsrycI9"

A healthy Lattimore is key. I think, (hope!), he has knocked off all the rust and has his game legs back. If he had any targets in Detroit, I didn't notice them and he made some tackles.

I don’t care if they all play. You gotta beat what’s in front of you.

The Rams could have, and might have, beaten them absent the fact it has been decreed LA teams cannot play in bad weather.

The Eagles can be beaten.

But they are very good all over the roster.

It will be a challenge. But they can do it.

Will they? Dunno. But they can.

I think the key, when all is said and done, if blocking Carter. That guy can blow up an entire offense all by himself if you let him. Contain him, and at the very least, the offense probably will be able to move the ball.

Don't contain him, you’re looking at short drives and punts and eventually the Eagles offense will blow the game open.

Yep. He sure seemed like he has settled in or has been being used more to his strengths. Maybe even still learning the D calls some.

IMO when you see him playing off, I think he is not being used to his strengths. I am sure he can play zone but that is not why we got him. I want him in Brown's face again and send him back to the bench to continue reading is favorite book. Go Dog Go.

I expect Godirt sic to go. If not, his backup Calcaterra showed enough that it shouldn't be a huge dropoff. Sadly.

It feels like Payne and Allen were dominant players eons ago, but it's only been a couple of seasons. They both got big contracts you give to cornerstone defensive players, and they're almost flying under the radar, but it's all in front of them now after Allen complained about being tired of losing. Put up or shut up time for them and they could make a huge difference.

Neither of those contracts were given by the current regime though.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out. They could prove their value in THIS time, like you said - it's all in front of them now. Well put!

The way they play this week will determine if they are on the team next year. If they step up and play like the superstars they were supposed to be they will be here next year. If they don't and are the main cause of the team not making it to the superbowl they will be gone

Against the Lions Jon was our highest graded player per PFF ... that's something man. Daron third lowest, that's also something.

I realize Daron is hurting, but I hope he finds a way to get his motor started. It just feels like his "want to" has been low all season. When he wants it he can be a force.
