The Redskins defense line as a unit is among the worst in the NFC.
First and foremost the 3-4 is supposed to be able to stop the run. This unit is the worst in the league vs. the rush.
I can't think of a 3-4 defense that has less inside at Nose Tackle.
Probably the best nose tackle would be Chris Baker, but he is currently the team's best defensive end.
Can't be in two places at the same time.
We got lucky last year in being able to sign Will Blackmon off the street and see Quinton Dunbar emerge as the most unlikely of play-makers on defense.
I don't see that happening again in 2016 for the defensive line.
The Redskins drafted a defensive lineman in the 5th round, but he didn't even make the 53 man roster ahead of some of the veterans that are currently out there failing on Sundays.
The veteran pick-ups in the offseason, Kendall Reyes and Ziggy Hood, don't look ready for prime-time.
Hood was hyped by the coaching staff during camp and the preseason, but I haven't seen him make many plays so far.
The pass rush from these guys has been non-existent.
Ironically, the one guy that has produced so far is Trent Murphy, who the team refuses to set at a position despite the fact it seems obvious his NFL future is at DE and not at OLB.
He has 4 sacks in 4 games.
When the team lines up in a 4-3 with Murphy at DE, he looks good.
Which shouldn't be surprising as that was the position he was projected to play in the NFL when coming out of Stanford.
Somehow the Redskins thought he would make a better OLB.
So, we flushed the first 2 years of his NFL career trying to make him into something he is not.
You can bet if Murphy hits the street as a free agent a smart coaching staff like the one in New England or Denver would know where to put him in their lineup to get the most out of him.
