Just an fyi for all those in Game Chat today - I have made some changes in how the embedded chatroom at the top of the Home Page is built. Today's version was built using an ad placement manager we use for all kinds of things. I don't know if maybe running it via that software created the database errors we had today, or whether it's just too big a strain on our server to have the chatroom mirrored on our home page. We'll try the new straight html set up next Sunday and I'll reevaluate then. Hopefully everyone had a good time regardless (beyond the game itself that is).

Thanks a bunch. Appreciate all the efforts to make game day a fun experience - even under difficult times.

Will the chatroom work off the mobile site? I'm on my tablet during the game and didn't see a way to open it. I just now tried requesting the desktop site within Chrome and was able to enter it. So it looks like it might work that way, but not sure what the performance will be like.

We'll have it embedded at the top of the home page so you should be able to access even from a phone if you wanted. There is a mobile Cometchat app for droid and iphones that works pretty well, but it's not 100% necessary.

Alfred Morris averaged 6.5 yards per on 14 carries. Gruden is going to wish he called more running plays when he watches the film.

And it wasn't just Morris.
Helu averaged over 10 yards a carry.
And when you combine their numbers Mo and Helu, were 18 carries for 137 yards, which is a 7.6 average.
How does a coach say in preseason that "running is our strength", limit himself and handcuff the team, in the face of a running success like that ???

OK, I am not as upset about the outcome of today's game as everyone else seems to be. The reality is, we were 3 plays away from a win...just 3, 2 fumbles inside their 10 yard line after great drives and a blocked punt for a TD.

There were mistakes. The most successful drive in the first half was a mix of Morris and Helu for the TD. We had success running the ball but kept throwing those quick screens to try to loosen up the defense. It didn't work, we should have run more. The Texans stuck with the run game and wore our defense down. We should have done that to them...we could have. And WTF was Gruden thinking on that last drive before the half trying to run a reverse on that defense...especially, that deep inside our 20 yard line.

Niles Paul saw EZ and lost focus of the rock in his hand. Speaking of that Niles Paul pass play, that was the most beautiful throw I have ever seen Robert make. We know he can fire bullts in tight spaces, but the touch he put on that ball thoroughly impressed me.

Once again, this kid is his own worst enemy, though. That fumble was inexcusable.

I won't mention Tyler Polumbus, I think we know enough.

Yet, with those mistakes we still played well enough to win. We didn't crumble with adversity like we saw all too much of last year. Our defense held that offense to 10 points. I will take that any week. And there was some quality play on offense. Even our special teams played well, except the block.

Keep in mind, that this was a bad team we played.
So, while it might normally provide some solace to be so close to a win, it doesn't provide any encouragement, when it was against such a horrible team.
If we played at that level against almost any other team, it would have been a blowout.
And btw, the special teams had "blocks", plural

Agreed. I'm unhappy about the loss, but those people who are blaming Robert for his inconsistency should take a closer look at JJ Watt & his effort today. That dude was all over the field & NO ONE was able to contain him. It's like having a 12th man on the field. He's sick.

But I agree, I think we played well & like you said that pass to Paul was beautiful. He doesn't fumble that & we're within a couple points.

I do think that RG3 looks as though he is thinking too hard about what he is supposed to do rather than just playing his game, but we saw a little transition today & I hope that becomes more a part of his instinctiveness throughout the season.

But they didn't look THAT bad.

Fear, many continue to look at this through the prism of this season and our chances at post-season. I am looking at the big picture. We saw progress in many ways from last year...Griffin made plays I did not think he was capable of. We saw the defense play well, holding a so-called bad team to 10 points is expected, and we did it.

I am not looking for big things from this team this year, so my expectations are tapered. With all the mistakes I saw more good things today. Things that show some progress over last year. That is all I want this year as long as TyPo and Chester anchor the right side of our OL.

As for today's competition...I bet this Texans team is better than their record last year.

Had Griffin not created that fumble on the 7 yard line, I'd be giving him more praise. It was just a fluke play - although I will say he seems to get his foot stepped on coming off the center more often than any QB I've ever seen. I saw TWO beautiful throws today, both in the 2nd half. Both came when Robert immediately made the read and put the ball downfield instictively without delaying. During the first half, he was very tentative. He waited far too long to get the ball on the way to the WR in a lot of cases. The long reception that was called out (and I still think that was a blown call. I saw green turf between the WR's foot and the sideline) was thrown very late which is the only reason the sideline came into play at all. I did see some good things, although he took a couple of sacks I didn't think he needed to.

Overall, I'd say that Robert did enough to get us a win today - it was just the ST mistakes and the fumbling in the red zone that doomed us. To only get 6 points, have 100 yard rusher, and move the ball like we did - that's inexcusable. A shame too - because this was one of the more winnable games on our schedule.

Clowney the Clown is out for several weeks. Hate to see injuries, but that is part of the game. He was never a factor. Should've double teamed Watt for the entire game. Bad strategy there.

Everyone seems to be in agreement on this one. The time has come for Moses and Long to start. They need to learn and being inactive on game day does nothing for their progress.

Trade TyPo for a bottle of fresh air. Maybe they left him on the tarmac at Houston Intercontinental Airport. Sure hope so.

I'd like to watch some game film and see how many times Watt made a play on a pass play when he was double teamed. It seemed to me that every time he was causing havoc in the backfield, he hadn't been double teamed or at least chip block by a RB/TE. I could be wrong there, I didn't start thinking about that until late in the game. It didn't seem like we were helping ourselves against him too much outside of trying to get quick passes.

I am going to comment on something I mentioned during the pre-season. I was shaking my head, wondering WTF the coaches are thinking keeping TyPo out there. Then I paid closer attention. The guy flat out balls on run plays. For a big guy, and he is huge...he pancakes people in the run. Watt pushed him back a couple times today, but Typo can run block very well.

Today, I was watching him plaster some defenders in the run, one play I mentioned in Chat. That is why he is still on this team. Gruden seems to scheme toward the run, although the 1st half of today's game wouldn't suggest it, so I am beginning to understand why he is still here.

However, that means nothing when you see defenders push him aside in pass pro. For ****'s sake...for someone so quick on his feet in the run game, how he can be so stationary in pass-pro is beyond me!

I'm not placing the blame for this loss on Robert....but man am I disappointed by how terrible his pocket presence looks. I know, I know people are going to say "what pocket?" And I agree to some extent that the right side of our OL was garbage, but RG seems to not be able to sense pressure ahead of time - I don't know whether he's responsible for checking protections at the line, but he seemed completely unaware every time a safety walked up to the line. His backpedals are also bad - as were his decisions under pressure - he seems extremely slow, almost paralyzed whenever there's any breakdown in the protection. I will say at least he was marginally better in giving up on plays - other than the decision to try to hand the ball off while falling (which was a huge negative play). So I think we may be in for a long year with this guy at QB, he seems plenty far away from being the QB we want.

I can't say all is lost, mostly because I didn't see this team as more than a 6 win team coming in - with a rookie headcoach (who I also don't love), a new system, and some glaring holes I didn't and don't expect things to gel right away.

But I can say even with lower expectations I was shocked and angered by our special teams. A td given up and an extra point taken away. The kicking and punting game made us a -8. It would be unreal if we hadn't seen it so many times before. How will this staff make players accountable for this **** I don't know, but they had better find a way to clean it up. I seriously can't watch games of this type of quality. It's a total waste of time.

Cofield later left the locker room with an air cast on his right foot. Jay Gruden later said the injury was a legitimate concern. Reed will get an MRI on Monday.

Just hoping Reed doesn't trip over the painted parking line at Redskins Park. It could set him back another three weeks.

Well...I saw some good things today. I also saw some mind-crushingly idiotic mistakes today.

ALMO/Helu are a super combo.

Robert is improving-albeit slowly-in some areas-learning to slide and sometimes even throwing the ball away, not improving in other crucial ones-fast decision-making for instance. Given the state of the right side of the OL he must develop that skill quickly.

Overall the defense looks better than I remember from last season-especially at pressuring the QB. (There was a point at which that pressure evaporated which I found puzzling)

ST is better. Take away the hideousness of the mistakes that were made and its still got more potential than the disaster we fielded last season.

The nature, timing, and effect of the mistakes during the flow of the game were what absolutely killed our chances.

Such flagrant and hurtful screwups, however, do tend to make fans forget that during the times between the mistakes we didn't play really badly most of the time.

Over all-minus those brain freezes-I actually saw things that looked to be in the process of improving from last season.

That's basically what I was looking for anyway-a reason not to lose hope.

It's too early to assume the worst, IMO, so I'm staying open-minded about how things may look a few games into the schedule.
