Official Draft Thread

Well it is a bit too early, to crown this as a great draft
Let's allow them to take a few hits on a pro field, first :)
Especially considering all of the risk factors many of these players have, due to injury history, weaknesses in talent, lack of size, etc
 
Overall I'm pretty happy with the draft. I thought the TE was a luxury pick and we have no real backup LT or decent RT. I'm just sayin... There was Nobody available at any point that would give us some decent depth at OL? Really?

Spending two picks on RBs seemed unnecessary too but I guess between London and Keenan Robinson, they feel like they have ILB solidified. This is a little bit of a worry spot for me. But maybe they get a cast off from the street later in the season.

OLB seemed like a good idea with the way Rak has been going and hell if he lights the world on fire maybe we don't have to pay Rak big money? Who knows.

I love the size and speed of the corner, the skills of the safeties and even know I wasn't big on the TE pick, he looks like he'll help the offence upgrade it dynamic options. To see him and Freddy D on the field at the same time is gonna be maddening for defences. (ode to Ryman) Hope it happens.

So For a draft where we were picking need 5 or 6 out of 7 picks, I think we did pretty well. I can't wait until we can take flyers on great athletes for the hell of it like so many other teams can. Well I guess we did with the TE but it was still a need.

The more I read about Reed, the more excited I get. This cat sounds incredibly versatile, and in the mode of Jimmy Graham and Aaron Hernandez as a matchup nightmare for defenses.

Remember a couple of years ago when we were all excited to see Cooley and Sleepy in 2 TE sets? Well, I think Reed and Davis has some incredible potential. Reed is a little raw (only played TE for a couple of years), but his versatility will cause D Coordinators sleepless nights pretty quickly. With Robert's accuracy, Reed will be a star TE within three years, mark it down.

Eh. That's overthinking things a little bit. So among the 12 picks we made, some of our 5th and 6th rounders are just depth guys. And a couple didn't hit. I have to tell you, not all the guys we drafted this year will be starters within two years either. And some won't hit. So long as most do it will be ok. That how the draft works, and why more picks are better than fewer picks.

And Shanahan drafting RBs means nothing about the RBs already on the team. He ALWAYS drafts more.

Unless you are expecting starters from every single one of your picks that article doesn't make a ton of sense.

2013 NFL Draft Grade: B-

Please note that the overall grade is not an average of all the individual grades. Other things are taken into account like team needs and goals.

Goals Entering the 2013 NFL Draft: The Redskins are missing their first-round pick because of the Robert Griffin trade. This is unfortunate because they're desperate for some help in their secondary. A receiver must also be obtained because Griffin doesn't have much to work with outside of Pierre Garcon.

2013 NFL Draft Accomplishments: Considering that Washington didn't have a first-round pick to work with, the front office did a solid job of finding players who could improve the roster.

The Redskins were desperate for secondary help going into the weekend, which is why they acquired three defensive backs to help them stop Eli Manning. I wasn't a big fan of David Amerson in the second round, but Phillip Thomas (No. 119) and Bacarri Rambo (No. 191) were both tremendous steals. Thomas was taken a round later than expected, while Rambo could have easily gone off the board 100 selections earlier.

I didn't like two of Washington's picks. Jordan Reed was a luxury selection, while Chris Thompson was just unnecessary, especially when the team obtained Jawan Jamison two rounds later. Still, the Redskins undoubtedly improved their chances of repeating as NFC East champions by bolstering their defensive backfield.

Many have been suggesting Niles Paul is the one who should be on notice...I am leaning toward agreeing with you here tr1...
 
Paul is a valuable part of Special Teams for the Skins. I am not so sure he is in trouble...yet. In fact, I can see the possibility of keeping 4 Tight Ends of Reed works out, maybe at the expense of a WR. Remember, we have been keeping Banks on the roster for 3 years now as nothing but a Return Specialist but he has been cut so that spot is "open". It could just as easily be for a TE as for a WR.
 
From what I'm hearing, Reed is essentially a slot WR anyway.

Sleepy, if healthy, is going to have a monster year. he's not going to the bench IMO. he's an integral part of the whole concept of attack Kyle has in mind.

As long as he doesn't get paranoid about losing his job, and decides to hit a little weed to calm his nerves.

Yeah, I think he's that dumb.

to quote a mediocre philosopher: "stupid is as stupid does". we'll see whether Sleepy takes note of the limited interest he drew this past off-season.
