Official 2014 Pre-Season Man Crush Thread

Tell you what ... if come September a now year older Santana Moss is still our best #3 or even #4 option, given the investment made in finding his replacement ... it's probably not a good sign.

Love me some Moss. Always have. But it's time.
 
Roberts has proven he is also not happy with his situation before even stepping on the field.

You are now trying to assume that other clubs weren't in contact with him or that he hadn't drawn any interest just because you didn't see some article on it. Maybe he was already told by the Skins they wanted him back but at a cheaper price and he was OK with it. Maybe he didn't market himself because if he couldn't come back here he didn't want to play. If we are going to just assume stuff lets not limit ourselves to just what other teams may or may not have done.

That reality is based on what YOU believe because of how you feel. Some of us actually believe Moss is a leader, he has proven his worth both on and off the field, and he has as much right to make this squad as any player brought in off the street.

PS - not one person said DeSean in any way shape or form about not making the team or proving himself. You just added that.
 
Mike, I'm curious ... for the sake of argument, say Moss comes back at the exact physical level he finished 2013. Is his being 'a leader' enough in your eyes to to justify a roster slot heading into 2014?

He won't be cut on June 1st.
Why would the team re-sign a guy this offseason to a vet minimum 1-year contract, only to cut him a few months later on Salary Cap day, when he hasn't taken a single snap on any field, since re-signing ?
How does that process benefit the team ?
He'll be in training camp and preseason, without a doubt.

Because at the time, the team didn't plan on signing DeSean Jackson, because he was still on the Eagles' roster.

Still not a reason to cut a Vet Minimum guy on June 1st
....cutting Moss at this point would be on par with cutting Colt McCoy right now, simply because they decided they will keep only 2 QB's this year.
They need Moss in preseason (at the very least) for the same reason we need a 3rd (or 4th) QB on the roster, going into the prepreason.

to me its the same as letting London come back. We have nobody who is a true veteran on the offense and Moss brings that to the table. He didn't under perform any more than anyone that wasn't named Pierre so I am not sure why he is being targeted. Is it just an age thing?

A better thrown ball, teams having to respect the run and not just assume we are going to pass because we are down by so much, coaches that haven't already given up, easier coverage...all of these things could help Moss improve his stats.

I know I am being a homer and a fan of Moss..but he has done 1000x more than Roberts or Grant have for this team and proven to be better than both of them year after year.
 
Garçon and Jackson are both 7-year vets. Williams has been around 5 seasons. Kory is a 6 year vet. Just out of curiosity, what makes a "true veteran?"

I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought we were talking WRs.

OL have their own Captain and leader. I dont think anyone that runs routes is going to listen to a OL or be motivated. I dont even know how much they really interact during the games or practice.
 
During Moss' so-called "off-years" (or I've heard it called worse from some guys) during the last 3 years, he actually has better stats than Roberts did in those same years, EVEN with a reduced role.
Over the past 3 years, Moss averaged 12.47 YPC, while Roberts averaged 11.49 YPC.
During that time, Moss also outscored Roberts with 14 TD's for Moss, to Roberts' 9 TD's.
Receptions and total yards were similar.
Again, he did most of that playing part-time, compared to Roberts' full-time.
Yet, Moss is depicted as some deteriorated crippled Senior Citizen, yet he's played no worse, and probably better than our current #3, even in his "aging years"
 
Apples and oranges; Roberts has had hot garbage behind center during that time. An injured Griffin looks like Joe Montana compared to John Skelton, Kevin Kolb and Brian Hoyer. A healthy Griffin is light years ahead of those guys! Palmer last year was a little better, but keep in mind Larry Fitzgerald took the lion's share of targets in that offense. Roberts also had better stats than Moss last year.

Moss had a healthy Griffin in 2012, and a top 5 offense. Not to mention Garçon missed 9 games.

great post and this is where I'm at. he has proven his worth on the team and deserves a shot at least. everyone else can dismiss him if they want, thats cool.

Im not going to argue anything anymore.

Then look at last year. It's the most recent anyway.
Last year, Moss & Roberts' stats were virtually identical.
And who had the better supporting cast last year ? Most definitely Roberts. Palmer played far better than Griffin.
And having Fitzgerald is not an excuse for not having more catches - it's the opposite - when you have a HOFer on the other side, who's getting double-teamed most of the time - you're supposed to have more catches than the average #2 or #3.
Yet Roberts fared about the same, stat-wise, as Moss. So, Moss did more than Roberts, since he had less to work with
 
I thought this was the man crush thread? Moss definitely has earned a chance to see what he can do this year, but in preseason if he is slowing down too much and drops good passes thrown his way then he needs to step down to let the younger guys fill in. The NFL is a cold harsh business and one of the worst things an organization can do is stay in love with the past and past performance. Jerry Jones is the world's worst in doing this. Do you really want to copy Jerry Jones?

Still, Moss has earned the opportunity to show he needs to remain on the team.
 
And you don't think the younger wideouts are more likely to look up to Garçon rather than Moss now?

To be a leader you also have to be a producer.

It's tough to lead from the bench.
 
My man crush is Adam Carriker! From his FB photo and comments it looks like he may be getting signed. I want nothing more than him to succeed. Those that follow him on fb know that he is a down to earth good dude. He and his wife has interacted with a few of us on here. He has been 100% dedicated to making it back, and I wish him nothing but the best, and I hope he is crushing quarterbacks for us this year!
