#4 spot is not as pressing need as a #3, so it's less likely, considering that pick could have been used for other more serious needs, if we indeed had a solid Top 3 at WR

I think now you're saying Grant was drafted to replace Roberts? In which case, Roberts would be the WR4. Either way, Moss is riding pine this year, unless he is a June 1st cap casualty.

Moss has been counted out and expected to be cut every year for at least the past 3. And every year someone gets hurt and he steps up and fills in.

I doubt that tune changes this year.
 
True, but he was terrible last year Mike. We're not going to cut a WR who is talented and younger to keep an aging vet who not only has lost a step, but who didn't perform well last year. They could decide to keep him, but all careers end at some point so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the year he goes (unless he really impresses in camp and pre-season).

I love Moss - but he was mostly a liability last year.
 
Who was good last year besides garçon? Morris had fumble issues, hank blew his knee, Griffin was garbage. I can't argue that his numbers were poor but he was asked to step up again to a position he was supposed to be moved out of and he did.

To me, his track record shows he's more resilient than these other guys and very dependable to be there when needed. Plus his leadership role is off the charts. If we gave London a 1 year pass Tanaman deserves at least that
 
Moss is done. Time to unwrap the security blanket and admit the truth.

There is no upside here, Moss is all past and no future.

If Jackson gets hurt Roberts can step in.

After that you have to count on you developing players like Grant to start to make a contribution.

NE and Seattle don't have 35 year old guys as #4 or 5?on the depth chart.

They draft guys and then get them on the field.
 
We say that every year and every year someone gets hurt and moss is back in the fold.

What NE does is irrelevant.
 
No, it's a barometer. The Redskins needing in the past for Moss and Doughty to play regular minutes with the starters was symptomatic of a team with no quality younger depth.

Hopefully we are building some of that now and these older vets won't be needed.
 
NE is a barometer? maybe to you, but I don't care what a cheating HC who hasn't won the super bowl in almost a decade does. That is as irrelevant as counting someone out simply because you think we've found a new toy to replace him.
 
Sure it does. A team doesn't go 3-13 just because one or two players have an off year.

Guys like Fletcher, Moss, Bowen, Montgomery, Morgan, Rocca, etc were all near or over 30 and were declining players.

We were the second oldest team in the league and finished last in the entire NFC.

The only way to get better is to bring in younger, faster, healthier players.

For the most part that is what I see the team doing.

If you like a lot of the 30-something's on the roster that have been here you might have some teary eyes come cut down day.

All he has done is play. If you think he is the reason or even one of the top 3 reasons we went 3-13 I will be completely shocked.

I am still not sure why you keep putting age out there. It would be like me continuing to counter with "but the Raiders went to the super bowl with Rice and Brown". It is the person that is playing, not the number.
 
His age isn't the concerning number, it's his stats. He's slowed way down and he was a poor pass catcher last year. Yes, no WR performs in isolation and others (beyond Reed and Garçon) played poorly - they'll likely be gone too.

Moss is probably my favorite Redskin. If he can muster up a come back season like he did a couple years ago, that's awesome. But he will be done soon, and age and the declining skills that come with age, will have something to do with it.
 
well, just stat wise he was the #2 WR on a crappy team last year with a QB who rushed back.

He was just about 25 yards behind Reed for being the overall #2 receiver on the team.

Yes, he dropped balls. Yes, he did spin more than he used to.

But who else has stepped up? We are talking about people who could possibly step up. But the only person who continually does is Moss.

If Roberts or Grant come in and earn it, fine. But as of right now, age is not a reason to get rid of Moss. He is the only person who continually plays and is still top 3 receiving.
 
Reed is a TE, not the supposed #2 WR - I'd say that undermines the case for Moss vs being evidence he should take up a roster spot - I don't think we can write off all of the drops and poor play as just bad QBing...

I agree he was the best of an underperforming lot. But we have lots of new WR talent and I don't think we should assume those guys are mirages any more than one should assume Moss can't surprise again. If he does great - but we have to say goodbye at some point and we also need to give younger players the chance to develop and show they can be a player like Moss has been. Just my opinion.
 
I can walk away happy with that.

If Moss comes in and sucks, we should get rid of him. But those other 2 should have to prove their salt as well.
 
Moss was re-signed on a one-year, vet minimum deal this offseason. He had the lowest average of his career last year at 10.8. I think he got the one year deal as a safety net, in case the team couldn't get their other targets at WR. They've gone on to bring in two legit top three receivers to complement Garçon via free agency, and drafted a guy the head coach is high on. Originally it's possible that they envisioned Moss in the slot to compliment Roberts and Garçon, but then Jackson became available. Writing is on the wall for Tanaman.

Skins drafted one additional OLB and brought in zero free agents, yet everyone has come to the conclusion that Orakpo is gone; the evidence is even clearer for Moss. I doubt he survives June 1st cuts.

Agreed :cheers: going to be more pressure than ever on WRs not named Garçon or Jackson because after Reed gets his share balls are going to be hard to come by. Fail to make catches on limited opportunities and you won't be here long is my guess...

I find myself wanting to see Moss on the roster this year because I more and more feel nervous about losing a lot of vet leadership. Having Moss as a no. 5 receiver is going to be more valuable in the film room then having Hank/Robinson sitting back there. None of the 3 options are on ST so why keep have a place keeper. Hank and Robinson most likely wont be here next season, so their value is a essentially non existent...

All of this is based on the idea that all 3 have similar showings in camp. Hank and Robinson are what they are. I would be completely different if either of them were on the up-slope, but they've shown us what they are going to be. Neither one has taken that next step...

You can equally make the argument about cutting Hank/Robinson with the same mentality. Teams need to be able to cut ties when players are no longer valuable. If they dont break into the top 4 in camp, keeping them over Moss is a moot point. 6 in 1 hand, 1/2 dozen in the other.

Moss does bring vet leadership to a very young team, and with the departure of Fletcher, that could be more valuable then a 10 - 20 catch per season WR who doesn't play teams.
 
I think DeSean Jackson and Andre Roberts have already proven they are productive NFL receivers :)

If I am wrong in my assumption about Moss' decline how come there wasn't even one other club that was willing to offer him a contract for 2014?

One has to separate out what one would like to see from what really is.

The reality is you can cut all the receivers not named Garçon and field a better unit in 2014 with free agents and picks.

And that is what it looks as if the Redskins are set to do.
