We are asking members to focus more intentionally on ensuring posts that are made have some relation to the thread topic they are made in.
We love all of you posting. We encourage post-making and thread-starting. But the culture here is to either find an existing thread that makes sense for the topic you are about to post about (chances are, a related thread already exists), or start a new thread on that topic if you believe it is warranted.
What we don't want are members having random chats about topics that having nothing to do with the thread title. It's annoying to members who clicked on the thread to read and post about a specific topic, and honestly, it's rude to derail someone else's thread. It takes 1 second to ask yourself, does the post I'm about to make have anything to do with the thread I'm posting in?
We understand an occasional side conversation can develop organically. The point isn't to stifle those conversations, it's to encourage you all to recognize when it's happening and not to need a staff member to ask why we started an Emmanuel Forbes thread in the middle of the Denver game thread. We encourage all of you to remind each other when someone sends a thread in a completely different direction than it's intended purpose.
We are one of the least-moderated forums you will ever be a part of. But we all, staff included, need to do better on the off-topic posting. Thanks for your help in reining this in.
love,
The BGO Staff
