What changed in Philadelphia Eagles culture from 2023 to 2024? Simply adding Fangio?

After the 2023 collapse, the Philadelphia Eagles were a sinking ship who despised their coach who never played a down of NFL Football himself and is an arrogant hothead prick.

So how did the culture change?

Ever hear of Bobby Knight?

There have plenty of 'douchebag' team leaders in sports who have been highly successful. There's this modern idea about 'culture' that implies everyone needs to love each other and sit around talking about character and noble thoughts if you want to win.

You don't. You have to have better talent, coaches who know how to take advantage of it, and be able to motivate players to play well. Some coaches do it with the rah-rah, some do it with intimidation, some do it with threats and rewards. It doesn't matter how you do it - there are a lot of ways to win.

Some of those ways may be more 'admirable' than others (I'd rather win with a Joe Gibbs than a Bill Belichick) but ultimately winning drives everything.

As far as 'sinking ship who despised their coach' - who are you talking about? Philadelphia fans? They're idiots - the same ones that pushed for the team to move on from Andy Reid. Obviously the owner felt Sirianni could get them there and stuck with him. That's all that matters. Not playing an NFL down is completely irrelevant and one man's 'arrogant hothead' is another's 'unflinching confident and fiercely competitive'.

Actually Nick listens to his players, by many, many accounts. He has a "true" open door policy. Compare that to Ron Rivera who claimed similar things - but by some accounts did NOT listen to advice from players.

Nick had a problematic relationship with Jalen Hurts. One player - yes the QB - and that was also driven by some disagreements among coaches (and Jalen liked the position coach more, who had a relationship with). So there is more to that story.

I really dislike Nick - I think his mannerisms and the way he carries himself kind of fit Philly, heck he even got angry with Philly fans during the Browns game, which to me is very Philly. Poor temper control? How much more Philly can you get?

That said, if we look only at some specific coaching characteristics - there's more to the story.

The thing that happened between last year and this year was Howie and the FO stepped in and made some "strong suggestions" on what he needed to do with his staff. That was the widely accepted belief based on meetings they had last year, the purging of his coaches - it was viewed as FO-driven most likely. So, I think they stepped in to help him right the ship, but appreciated some of his leadership qualities. Unfortunately, it has worked out for them.

The Eagles FO had the best off season in the league. Had a great draft and hit on so many free agents. I mean, they grabbed some guy from NO's bench and he became an all pro. And, stealing the Giants best player, who turned out to be a HUGE difference maker.

Without the huge talent upgrade, they aren't that much better.

But, have to gvie the FO credit.

The question is - what does Vic Fangio do daily to train them in the weight and conditioning to make them that much better?

Cooper Dejean? Seriously? How does Fangio instruct and train them on a daily basis is what I wonder.

Dude, their entire defense is stacked with talent. Fangio is also a good coach.

It's like when Gibbs came back and brought over Gregg Williams, except we didn't have anything like the eagles current offense. And they also didn't draft 2 startering CBs and have a guy like Carter at DT.

What did Fangio do in order to make Baun, a reject from the Saints, an All Pro and leading tackler. I want to see Fangio moving around and showing Baun the technique and fumble punch strategy.
