Next Day Thread: What Was That? (Dallas Edition)

Yeah, that was painful to watch. Still much work to be done on this team.

After a cooling-down period, I'm calmer and more philosophical today.

Divisional games are volatile affairs and this was one of those "just not your day" games all but the top-tier teams have, and Washington is not a top-tier team. After a fast start, we seem to be settling back to the developing level most fans and media predicted.

I still have optimism, but it's been tempered.

To your point, you almost wonder if there is some grand strategy here that they are trying to win these games without showing their hand completely…and we are in for a blitzkrieg kind of offense in December, that again catches defenses off guard.

Maybe I give them too much credit.

Can't see that being the case. You have to go all out to win every game. This ain't baseball where you can throw away 5-10 games a year for the long haul. These seasons are a sprint.

I do think JD's rib injury has KK calling things a bit differently. That and teams are just completely shutting down our receivers. If you can't win against man coverage its just really hard to muster up consistent offense. You HAVE to be able to beat man coverage in today's NFL and we can't.

After looking at the play by play again yesterday, I think there is hope yet in our offense. We were able to make some plays in the pass game when we opened it up on earlier downs. We gotta up the aggressiveness even more. Just pretend we only have two downs to work with. Avoid third downs altogether or try to anyway.

Basically, put it all on JD5. Passing and his running. He's our omega weapon now. For better or worse, let him carry us.
 
Let's discuss the DTs. What was seen as a strength going into the season is now a liability. And it's not because of Jon Allen's injury as he has done nothing for 2 seasons. We see them get run on at the start of every single game, huge gaps right up the middle. They rarely collapse the pocket or provide inside pressure on passing downs. I'm getting tired of waiting on Johnny Newton to live up to the hype.

With all that said this loss was on the offense. Dallas handed them great field possession and they came away with 3 points. Had they gone up 17-0 I firmly believe the Boys pack it in. But as we all know you keep an underdog in the game and they develop confidence, eventually even bad teams make plays. We gave them every opportunity to win this game and that really sucks.
 
Random shout out to Noah Brown who is a willing and well abled blocker. Without him doing his thing, I doubt Terry scores on this one. LOL this is probably what the All-22 looks on that left side most of the game folks.

While Noah has failed to meet my overly high expectations (largely based on a few MONSTER games last year) he has more than met reasonable expectation for a free agent that joined the team at the start of the season.

I think anyone over 50 has it stuck in their head to kick the extra point. I know I did for a while. Never forget, its now a LONG XP and is no longer a gimme that it was when we grew up. Kick a 38 yard XP to tie or run Jayden for 2 yards to win... hmmmm

Momentum means little when in OT we call tails and lose Seibert kicks off to the 10 they get the ball on the 40 and in a play or 2 are well within FG 60 yard range.

We couldnt stop Dowdle. They schemed up Lamb. We coudn't stop their TEs. We lost 2 starting RBs... offense really 5's legs or TMC.

Well to be fair, the two picks weren't on him. The first was Robinson's fault. He bungled the catch, put it up in the air, and the defender caught it.

The second was the hail mary throw. That ain't on Jayden.

He was OK yesterday...not good, not terrible. He missed a couple throws. There were drops. This loss isn't on him. The WRs must get open more often and sooner. Don't know if it's scheme or talent, likely a combination of both.

This was definitely one where the play calling stood out to me as the biggest problem. Jayden wasn't amazing, but he was good enough to win, if those around him were self destructive

I agree with you about the drops. They are unacceptable. But JD has certainly regressed. He has not looked the same since the injury. His accuracy has suffered. Especially down the field. It may be that is why KK is using the short passing game now. As far as the OL goes they are lightyears better than the crew Howell had to try to survive behind last season.
 
One thing that will help the offense is more speed out of the backfield.

We should bring up Wiley from the PS use him in the run game to attack the edge.

That is not what Rodriguez and McNichols are best suited to do.

These guys are between the tackles runners who don’t make people miss.

With the line injuries they aren’t going to produce for us.

This is what was so disappointing and why yesterday was so surprising. Coaches had extra days and their coaches were a day short. But it's also what makes sports so great. You never really know what's going to happen.
 
Was it just me or was anyone else disappointed in Jayden's "giddy" celebration after he scored the first TD. It was like he was not situational aware of how poor he and the rest of the offense was playing. Wasn't a good look.

I have been saying the same thing lately. No one can predict what happens; its totally chaotic yet the game is so structured. Heck its a complete guess to nail each teams first series correctly. I almost posted a challenge in the thread yesterday to try and guess. BRob went down on our first snap. Ekeler KO'd on one of the last plays of the game.

My favorite play was the blocked punt. Seeing a long snapper man handled by 2 DT was glorious. Jerry will probably push for a rule change next year.
 
Can we make this guy active? He showed a lot of fight on this run.
