Next Day Thread: What Was That? (Dallas Edition)

I think you have to keep both Siebert and Gonazales on the team. Let Gonzales kick next week and let Seibert sit until after the bye.

Strength and Conditioning lacking in the trenches. Getting outmuscled continually by inferiior opponents.

The will to prepare to win is not there. They blew the preparation time advantage they had over Dallas.

These are professional athletes. While S&C is still important, this isn’t high school.

We just need better linemen.

That must be some of the worst special teams play I've ever witnessed a team have. Shanked FG, two shanked XP attempts, two return TDs allowed when the game was there for the taking. It should be absolutely impossible to be that useless.

Defense did enough to win. Gave up 20 points, but considering how bad the offense was, and the fact we turned the ball over several times that gave Dallas short fields, I think 20 points is a very good effort for them.

Kliff has been figured out, which is not hard to do when half of your playbook is shotgun, delayed hand off HB plunges right up the middle for two yards. I mean, are you serious Kingsburry? Do you not have any other ideas in that head of yours? We're talent deficient on offense, so you need to be more creative to scheme around those deficiencies.

This is a game you win if you're really a playoff team this year. I think it's obvious the 7-2 start as more smoke and mirrors, and just an understaffed team overachieving. We've fallen back to earth.

I'm not worried about JD long term. He looks healthier, and looked far more explosive today. That being said, he's had rookie struggles; it just took him till week 8 or 9 to have them. I think he'll be better, but the line has been playing terribly, the playcalling has been predictable, and we lack enough talent for JD to really shine.

The younger me would have been very drunk right now.

In some way I just to scream to release my frustration. I feel like there is blood on my hands because I believed we would win today.

I’m trying REALLY hard not to be overly negative today but I agree. Normally I’m coming back around by this point but today has been a struggle. Doesn’t help that my son completely lost his shit with disappointment. I’m so utterly sick and tired of the Eagles and Cowboys always getting the better of us, it’s way past time for this to change.

Tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1996.
Kingsbury's offenses always fall apart halfway through the season. The only surprise is that people are surprised.
People now have film on JD...and especially on our OTs. Will JD really be the guy? We just don't know. He may well turn out to be more like Justin Fields than Lamar Jackson. We've seen this movie before, as recently as last year when guys we were looking at Sam Howell making off script throws and saying "we got our guy!"

Nice write up KD! My takeaways from today were, 1.) we did not get to C. Rush all game, not one sack I don't think, and 2.) O line didn't hold up, again, against a good D line. As for JD5, not sure what to make of his current slump, but hopefully him and Kliffy figure shit out! #Hail

In the last 20 years ive never been pissed off after a loss tonight im still pissed off. This was supposed to be different dans gone, real coaches and 11-12 wins. Sorry but after seeing this team out coached the last 5 weeks and after the terry td and utter failure of special teams I truly hope they lose out and this coaching staff that pretends to be good gets tossed. Dan is awful in game, he allows his oc and st coaches to do such stupid bs. Dan is not much different than ron would have been without the front office control . Sorry but its what I see he is consistently out coached in game and never seems to prep the team. If it were not for JD this team could be winless.

Thankyou KDawg for this addition, please make it a regular thing. It's a nice distraction to an otherwise not nice day.

If I told any of you we had the opportunity to head into the bye week with 8 wins and a playoff spot within our own control, you would likely be crediting the coaching staff for the great work they have achieved with a brand new roster that was massively overhauled. This is a week to week league. Look no further than Pittsburgh losing to Cleveland. We had fourth quarter leads vs. the Steelers and Eagles, but ultimately came up short against stronger opponents at a point in the season where we were starting to get worn down physically. There is no shame there. The Dallas game was our stinker and there was no excuse today. We were equally bad in all three facets of the game at various moments in the ball game. It was truly a team loss in every aspect you can think of. The team has to wipe the slate clean at this point and start anew. There are five weeks to decide what we want this season to be remembered for - a pleasant surprise in year one of a rebuild, or a completely wasted opportunity where we fizzled out. 4 wins will get us in the playoffs. With 3 wins, you are likely looking for some help.

We weren’t playing the Eagles or Steelers today.

We were facing a sub .500 team at home that was itself missing key players to injury.

The quarterback is a scrub.

The conclusion you come to is this team faced with some injury adversity and the fact the NFL season is long and an endurance test, overall is lacking in the mental toughness to play the details and step up to be counted.

99 yard TD allowed?

Missed extra points?

24 points allowed in fourth quarter to a team that couldn’t get anything going in its past several games?

This team was fighting and continued to battle through the Steelers loss.

Beginning with the second half against the Eagles the mood of this team has been one of self doubt rather than self confidence.

Dallas is dead in the water and knows they are not going anywhere this season with Prescott gone for the duration. Any early energy and playmaking would have had them walking to the exits.

To give them life in this game is a bit reminiscent of the Gruden teams that would let struggling clubs come in with backup and rookie quarterbacks and get healthy against us in large measure because of failures to execute on basic plays on special teams and adequate focus on the job at hand with twice as many days to prepare as the opposition. Dallas was turning around on a short week.

But looking at the game you would have thought Washington was coming in with little time to prepare and physically recover from the last contest.

I don’t want to see guys crying because they missed an extra point or because they allowed one of the longest kick returns against us in some time.

That only had me taking my other shoe off to throw at the flatscreen.

Failure to execute these plays isn’t about a lack of physical talent it’s about what you have above the shoulders.

It’s about being focused and dialed in on assignments and following through on where you are supposed to be on the field so teams don’t score cheap long touchdowns on returns.

I don’t expect this team to beat Baltimore or Buffalo or the Lions. But the toothless Cowboys? What a f**** disgrace.

Skins must be the only team in the league where the OC refuses to move his best WR across the formation to hunt mismatches. Not very creative at all.

Ekeler might be done for the season too. Love the guy but 2 concussions in the past several weeks is of concern. How many has he had in his career? CTE is a serious deal and the more concussions the more serious it can be later in life for him and any player.

Bulldog, I will say that we were in the better team last two games and should have won them both let alone this one but something tells me we thought we were head and heels above them and took them for granted and KK's O lacks much creativeness this game especially and our D tires as the games progress later as we have seen most of this season.

That makes sense.

A lack of focus and execution often comes from either over confidence or lack of faith in what you are doing.

I don’t think the team has tuned out coaches like they have with some other clubs, but we haven’t been sharp to start these recent games.

I think we need to pull Wiley up from the PS to give us some speed and quickness out of the backfield.

McNichols and Rodriguez don’t provide that outside threat.

If Robinson is going to be out we can’t just go with these other guys, they don’t scare defenses.

Top 2 running backs on this team are out for a substantial time it looks like. Ekeler has to be done for the season. Luke is not ready to be a number two we have to assume. We have 1 reliable receiver. Our offensive line is breaking down. It might get real ugly the rest of the way. Like lose out ugly.

I agree, but continually failing tocollapse the pocket on defense and hold the line of scrimmage in the trenches shows they are getting overpowered - and that goes back to preparatiion, coaching, training, strength and conditioning. Don't you think?

When a bottom tier defense is able to shut down your offense, you have to change things up. Yesterday it was clear they were keying in on the run game and short passing game. It worked, but this time there's no excuse about facing a decent defense.

I'm hoping to see strategic changes next week. If BRob and Ekler are both out, take a pass first approach with shots downfield if they're playing single high. If it works, it will open up the run game. If it doesn't, and that falls on line play and lack of talent at receiver, then fine. Jayden is supposed to be able to throw like a top quarterback. Better to have tried and failed, than to try the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

The grip is loosening on what was a promising season. Initial expectations have been exceeded, but it will be a disappointment for sure if they don't close out strong. Playoffs are somewhat irrelevant at this point, but getting back to winning is not.
